I loved the ending. Sid finally gets the respect and status he wants in prison, meaning unlike most 'fresh meat' he's likely LEFT ALONE to serve out his sentence in peace!
I love Joker's funeral for Batman - Putting the 'Kick Me' sign on Batman's cape, Harley playing Amazing Grace on the kazoo, and Joker finishing the whole thing with, "Well, that was fun! Who's for Chinese?"
I definitely enjoy the goofiness of the Joker throwing a funeral for Batman, and in a distinctly Joker way, and Sid accidentally knocking Batman over works for me. Batman is used to dealing with people who actually try to fight him. It's similar to how beginners can sometimes get the better of pros because someone who has no set rhythm or structure or strategy to what they do is much harder to read, and I think that's analogous to this situation. Plus, I don't think it's accurate to say that Sid got the better of Batman at any point.
Sid was great, you can immediately tell that this is a guy in way over his head. I think people don't like it because it's so absurd how this guy bumbles his way through the episode. People were expecting more of a serious episode like The Mechanic.
This episode is actually one of my favorites in the entire series. Easily top 10 for me, if not top 5. I disagree with you about the parts with the Joker. To me, the lines the Joker has in this are some of the best written of the entire show. For example: "Without Batman, crime has no punch line" or "Well that was fun. Who's for Chinese?" There are just so many great Joker moments in this episode. And Joker's eulogy was easily the highlight of the episode. Can't believe you didn't find that part interesting. It was extremely entertaining and Harley Quinn playing "Amazing Grace" on the kazoo was the icing on the cake for that scene.
Yeah I agree, I'm surprised Andy didn't like Joker's part of this episode. I thought it was one of the better episodes to distinguish his character. He doesn't really care about committing crimes, just his relationship with Batman...
I do like that part that they establish Joker enjoying the sport of it and a peak into the true relationship with Batman, but I really just forgot he was even in this episode.
You really see how much Harley Quinn likes/co-signs abuse, I'll get a mop, when goon is mobbed by hyenas for questioning joker, smiling and playing amazing grace on a kazoo while Joker throws Sid into a coffin into an acid vat, and of course how she shrugs off the joker shoving her 10-20 feet and demanding they return the jewelry as the batman won't show up. I do find it crazy how opinions of Harley Quinn can drastically change based on what your read of her (squick with her making Deadshot where the Joker's face, even if he shot her). If I could go to top 10 then yeah: 4:47 Joker's favor, Almost Got 'Im, Lock-Up, Heart of Ice, and perchance to dream (possibly an prelude to that Justice League episode for the man who has everything). 2 runner ups were Joker's favor and over the edge.
what are your top 5? Mine are the Forgotten (master plan to enslave homeless, who cares if they go missing), this one (Sid the Squid's crazy luck and how devious Harley Quinn is as abuse by the joker is quite equal opportunity), and if I include The New Batman Adventures, Never Fear (batman without fear is as crazy as the joker), joker's millions (don't take on the IRS lol), and Knight Time if you allow the superman crossover. World's finest and the other movies were great too. Runner up is 4:03 lol this is Sid's Almost Got 'Im moment.
The one scene where Joker had a sad face that he wanted to be the one to kill Batman. If I didn’t know any better I think he somewhat misses him in a comical way. And the funniest scene of all was the funeral where Joker’s digressing over the Squid being the one to kill Batman (which squid never hurt a soul or killed someone in his life). Overall I love the episode. I know some people hated it, but I loved it. And I literally died laughing cause of the Joker’s monologues.
"This cowardly, insignificant Garnard who probably got lucky when Batman slipped on the slime trail this loser left behind!" This is the funniest line the Joker ever said I was laughing for 10mins straight all these years back when I heard and still find it hilarious to this day😂😂
This was a hilarious episode. Sid the Squid thinking he killed the Batman. He wanted that 15 minutes of fame. I think the funniest moment was with Mark Hamill's Joker having a eulogy for Batman. The best Joker dialogue for a Batman episode was "Where is he? He's never been this late before. There's a certain rhythm to these things. I cause trouble, he shows up, we have some laughs, and the game starts all over again. Only now, thanks to you, I've got this terrible feeling that he's..........really not coming". For me that was the highlight of this episode. Also John Vernon's Rupert Thorne as usual is great. His Rupert Thorne always brings back to him as the Dean in Animal House.
I agree the best part of this episode was seeing that other side of Joker, not just the maniac but someone that truly has a strange connection to Batman.
What’s funny about the name sid the squid is that in the episode Robin’s Reckoning one of Tony Zucco’s alter ego names was Sid the Squid. (Even though this episode aired before Robins Reckoning) in terms of production number robins Reckoning came first.
Why don't fans (I assume you mean like me) like this episode? Hmm..... The title card, the character who everyone thought "killed" Batman, Joker acting outta place while committing a crime (to me, there was no real reason to put him in there), I could kind go. But I won't cause there are 3 more worst episodes (if you remember seeing my WORST episode list) than this, where I'd rank it 106 outta 100.
P.S. You think this episode is underrated? Where have you been? Practically every BEST episodes of BTAS list has this episode. Feels that everyone who put that on the best list is like slapping me across the face.
I watched the funeral scene again after I heard that Kevin Conroy passed away. My eyes were tearing up because it felt like Joker was there at the moment and was paying his respects after all this time that he and Batman fought. R.I.P Kevin, he was THE Batman, no one could ever top that and I was destroyed when I heard the news. 💬”I didn’t count on being happy.”💬 Geez, Mask of the Phantasm really hits harder now. ❤️🪦🥀🦇
Been lobbying hard for Matt Frewer (Sid's voice actor) to portray Carnage in the upcoming Venom movie. Ol' Max Headroom/Jackal from Gargoyles/time travel thief from that one episode of Star Trek TNG would be perfect as Cletus Cassidy! Frewer excels at playing creeptacular characters, a must for the role of Carnage.
The only thing I hate about this episode is how easily Batman's mask came off. It might as well been made of paper. Batman has no business wearing a cloth mask.
I think this episode is funny, but I do understand why people don't like this episode? I also thought this story is kind of weak. If you just want to be entertain then this episode is for you? If you prefer lot of action or more of the better story plot then this episode really isn't for you? It all depend on your taste.
I loved the ending. Sid finally gets the respect and status he wants in prison, meaning unlike most 'fresh meat' he's likely LEFT ALONE to serve out his sentence in peace!
Almost poetic.
And who wants to bet there’s an honest janitorial job at Wayne Tech waiting for him after his sentence?
I love Joker's funeral for Batman - Putting the 'Kick Me' sign on Batman's cape, Harley playing Amazing Grace on the kazoo, and Joker finishing the whole thing with, "Well, that was fun! Who's for Chinese?"
Apparently the voice actors all started laughing after the part where Harley plays Amazing Grace on the kazoo.
@@Xehanort10 You can just HEAR her voice actress about to fall apart laughing through the whole song.
@@Xehanort10 I can totally imagine Mark just wheezing after that

Also, Batman's entrance and subsequent bataranging of Thorne's gun is pretty great.
I think you are exactly right, I don't think Batman was expecting Sid to bumble his was around like he did.
I like to think Batman thought "finally I can take a break"
I liked how at the end Batman realized that for all his desire to be a big shot, Sid was basically a nice guy without a violent bone in his body.
Sid was great, you can immediately tell that this is a guy in way over his head. I think people don't like it because it's so absurd how this guy bumbles his way through the episode. People were expecting more of a serious episode like The Mechanic.
You are probably right, but Sid is the kind of character that really adds some heart to the show.
The beginning of this video hits differently now. RIP Kevin Conroy
Truly one of the best.

I respect that, I just felt the funeral scene went on too long, I guess I was just more interested in Sid.
I do like that part that they establish Joker enjoying the sport of it and a peak into the true relationship with Batman, but I really just forgot he was even in this episode.

This episode made me laugh so hard, and gave us one of Joker's greatest monologues.
The funeral part is pretty funny.
@@AndyKnode When Harley Quinn is playing the Kazoo. 😂😂😂

Some definite high points in this episode.

It'd be great if Sid the Squid got forcibly recruited into a team of super villains.
I could see a whole series built around that!
That eulogy was genius.
The joker segment was ALL I remembered about this one.

Weasel is it incorrect term more like
Mouse or 🦑
harley quinn on the kazoo at the funeral. Kills me every time, no pun intended.
Lol that subpoena joke was amazing!!!
"Well, _that_ was fun! Who's for Chinese?"
Another good review man. This is one of my favorites.
As a kid, the opening of that episode scared me cause of how he looked in the shadows.
That dude just want to be known by everyone, to look like he killed Batman and then one thing happen after another...Yeah, it gets from bad to worse.
What am I missing why don't fans like this episode?
Yeah, I really like this episode.
The animation is really the only downside to this episode. Character designs are particularly inconsistent in this episode. (joker)
Hi, first of all I love your channel, and I have just finish watched the whole series and I gotta say, this episode is top ten material for me.

The parts with the Joker are some of the most memorable to me
Tuning in for the first time, after Keven Conroy passed away on November 10, 2022. That was an ominous intro.
i remember this episode its one of my favorites honestly
I watch this episode when ever I can get to it
I love the title card, sid looks so insignificant!

One of the best and most memorable episodes kinda like the episode where that guy tries to blow up the joker at the end

Oh yeah that would be great. I loved his character in Watchmen too!
I don’t know, I really like this one.
Read Batman long halloween i wont say no more🤐
Hey! Can anyone help me ti find thoose Episodes online?
DC Universe has all the batman and superman animated series episodes.
It's a great episode, quite straight with a pinch of looney tunes thrown in.
Top Ten.
The only thing I hate about this episode is how easily Batman's mask came off. It might as well been made of paper. Batman has no business wearing a cloth mask.
You know that a good point it really did come off easy.
