Batman's "eulogy" was famously redone by Mark Hamill at a Comic Con some years ago. Some of my favorite Joker quotes from the Animated Series come from this episode. Notably: "Without Batman, crime has no punchline." "Well, that was fun! Who's up for Chinese?"
Mark Hamill has said that his favorite line to describe how Joker feels about Batman is in this episode when he says “Without Batman crime has no punchline “. He actually did the entire eulogy scene on stage for people, what was funny is that even though it wasn’t planned the lighting guy put the spotlight on him as soon as he took center stage!🤣🤣
Dini was actually worried that people would think Harley playing Amazing Grace on the kazoo as the coffin containing Sidney is lowered into waste during the Joker's ambush was sacrilegious, but nothing came out of it. The tune was performed by Arleen Sorkin, Harley's voice actress, in one take. In an interview, Dini stated that it was fortunate that Sorkin was able to complete the song in one take, as immediately after that, she and the remainder of the voice cast also broke into uncontrollable laughter, and "we'd have never gotten a second take of it".
One of the most memorable episodes for Joker's rant alone. This was the point where we knew Hamill was destined to go down as the greatest animated Joker ever. Interesting outsider's look at the social Darwinian aspects of Gotham's underworld, very much like Goodfellas as you noticed.
I really liked this episode i love the joker in this episode shows his character is about is obsession with batman, his eulogy, and him wanting chinese, plus the twist and made it so made sure sid got the respect he wanted in a way.
Long Live Matt Frewer, may he live forever....no one could sound more like a wiener, more like a 98 pound weakling, than he could be, without actually being one....his characterization and voice work are perfect fro this character, one of the best one shot characters ever his voice is also what i imagine what a 5th Dimension imp character for DC or Marvel should sound like (he played the character of Chaos in the Aladdin TV series, so he already has the experience) other roles include the other dad in Honey I Shrunk The Kids and the remake of Dawn Of the Dead
I always loved the partner / friendship weird ship Batman and Joker have. It´s so good on so many levels. The Story line where Joker kills Batman and looses it for real and goes on to work for the dmv
Imagine a Black Comedy version of this episode as a movie....a wieny loser of a wanna be criminal "kills" the Batman (take your pick of which one) and everyone in the city goes after him for their own reasons...The Police set up a task force to hunt down Batman's killer, Commissioner Gordon goes back on the street without his badge ("i am not a cop tonight"), criminals want to find him too, some like the Joker can't live without Batman, some want to celebrate him, some want to kill him out of jealousy, some want to kill him because without him, some kind of worse or more powerful superhero or vigilante will take his place, you can include members of the Bat family wanting to track him down (genuinely) or decide who catches him is proven worthy to be the next Batman, h3ll maybe Alfred comes out of retirement to hunt down the man who killed his son meanwhile you can have a running joke about where Bruce Wayne is, why he disappeared around the same time as Batman, but no one puts it together until Batman comes back..."well i guess that theory's shot", maybe one of the criminals or some random person wants to take up Batman's role (like maybe Clayface reforms and shape shifts as Batman, or someone builds a robot Batman), there are random "is Batman alive" sightings, but it turns out to be Manbat and as everyone goes after the murderer, some sneaky, shadowy figure keeps following the guy and pursues and /or helps him it can be like this episode combined with Fritz Lang's M, where a child murderer is so despised the police and criminals all hunt him down, and if you make it a "Black Comedy' then you can use all the gothic noir and detective elements, as well as the violence and darkness people want in their Batman movies, with some humour and dark jokes about dead Batman and the loser who got him
You guys seem to have missed the point of the coffin scene. The acid didn't save him by eating the locks, The coffin wasn't cracked open when it hit the shore. The purpose of the scene is to leave a clue that Batman saved him. The clue is confirmed later in the episode when Batman reveals that he's been tailing him this whole time. If Batman was tailing him and he had been thrown into a tub of acid, Batman would obviously jump in and help him.
They were surprised when Batman lifted Rupert by one hand. The man can bench and lift up to a 1000lbs or even more… he’s a man that trained his body to be top peaked.

"Without Batman, crime has no punchline..."
That line hits hard now...
Batman's "eulogy" was famously redone by Mark Hamill at a Comic Con some years ago. Some of my favorite Joker quotes from the Animated Series come from this episode. Notably:
"Without Batman, crime has no punchline."
"Well, that was fun! Who's up for Chinese?"
Mark Hamill credits this episode with providing "the best Joker monologue of all time."
My favorite is definitely the one in Return of the Joker.
The chills it gives....
"Well that was fun!... who's for chinese?."
Probably my favourite Joker line ever. 😂
"Today is the day the clown cried" is one of my favorites lines ever
The "crime has no punchline" monologue is one of Mark Hammil's favorite

During the last note, it DOES sound like she's trying not to laugh through the kazoo. 😂 In-universe, Harley was starting to cry again.
OMG Shatner killed me! LOL
R.I.P Kevin Conroy 😢😢😢
This has some of the best joker lines and moments ever. It’s an iconic episode
"a small subpoena"
it's a penis joke!
But ya know, edited down so far because it's a kids show to be almost unrecognisable.
I came here to say this but you beat me to it
6:08 Aww bless your heart. I’ll tell you when you’re older.

Interesting outsider's look at the social Darwinian aspects of Gotham's underworld, very much like Goodfellas as you noticed.
'animated' was an unneeded word
Matt Frewer who played Sid was also known for playing MaxHeadroom and you've seen him in Honey I Shrunk the Kids as the neighbor father.
I really liked this episode i love the joker in this episode shows his character is about is obsession with batman, his eulogy, and him wanting chinese, plus the twist and made it so made sure sid got the respect he wanted in a way.
Y’all not catching that the subpoena joke was a 🍆 joke makes it even funnier 😂

New sub here. Hope to see more of the reactions on DCAU stuff, Batman Beyond and JL in particular.
Much love to y'all.
Another amazing video
Oh, this episode.... it just getting even more sad when you realize that the hero live shorter life then the villain....
Was the subpoena line really that hard to get? I understood it when I was a kid and I've never had a particularly dirty mind.
Yeah, I was legitimately waiting for the guys' 'punchline', but they honestly just didn't get it O_O
I always loved the partner / friendship weird ship Batman and Joker have. It´s so good on so many levels.
The Story line where Joker kills Batman and looses it for real and goes on to work for the dmv
Holy shit, the Wrath of Khan insert was one of the funiest edits you guys have ever done.
Would anyone like to see Jackie Chan Adventures, Gargoyles, Swat Kats and Transformers Prime on here?
Gargoyles for sure. That show was far ahead of its time.
X-MEN TAS!
Gargoyles and TFP absolutely.
Definitely Jackie Chan Adventures or Gargoyles
was waiting for this one, wish eric was here too
Without Batman, crime has no punchline. - Joker, 1993
Ayyy shout out that Grillz reference lol
8.43 mark did this line at a con you guys should check it out its awsome
That title card artwork reminded me of Harvey Kurtzmans work on MAD
The small subpoena quote is a joke on his private parts size. "Small subPEENa."
Everytime I hear the name "Squid" in this episode I immediately think of Sam from Rocket Power.
This show has many episodes featuring Joker. This might just be my favorite.
It’s up there with Laughing Fish.
Let's a go... For the Super Mario Bros. Movie reaction!
The Batman animated series is a different but still very good show
That "subpoena" line was clearly a dirty joke, and all three of you didn't react. That was also the first time was get Harley's real name.
Not that it matters to them but a what point do I switch to the Superman show when going through the animated universe.
Imagine a Black Comedy version of this episode as a movie....a wieny loser of a wanna be criminal "kills" the Batman (take your pick of which one) and everyone in the city goes after him for their own reasons...The Police set up a task force to hunt down Batman's killer, Commissioner Gordon goes back on the street without his badge ("i am not a cop tonight"), criminals want to find him too, some like the Joker can't live without Batman, some want to celebrate him, some want to kill him out of jealousy, some want to kill him because without him, some kind of worse or more powerful superhero or vigilante will take his place, you can include members of the Bat family wanting to track him down (genuinely) or decide who catches him is proven worthy to be the next Batman, h3ll maybe Alfred comes out of retirement to hunt down the man who killed his son
meanwhile you can have a running joke about where Bruce Wayne is, why he disappeared around the same time as Batman, but no one puts it together until Batman comes back..."well i guess that theory's shot", maybe one of the criminals or some random person wants to take up Batman's role (like maybe Clayface reforms and shape shifts as Batman, or someone builds a robot Batman), there are random "is Batman alive" sightings, but it turns out to be Manbat
and as everyone goes after the murderer, some sneaky, shadowy figure keeps following the guy and pursues and /or helps him
it can be like this episode combined with Fritz Lang's M, where a child murderer is so despised the police and criminals all hunt him down, and if you make it a "Black Comedy' then you can use all the gothic noir and detective elements, as well as the violence and darkness people want in their Batman movies, with some humour and dark jokes about dead Batman and the loser who got him
guys just so you know there is a different show called "The Batman" so Make sure you stick to calling it batman the animated series
The Snyder cut was literally 4:3 guys lol
The Eulogy Mark reads is the best part
That was fun now who is for Chinese
You guys seem to have missed the point of the coffin scene. The acid didn't save him by eating the locks, The coffin wasn't cracked open when it hit the shore. The purpose of the scene is to leave a clue that Batman saved him. The clue is confirmed later in the episode when Batman reveals that he's been tailing him this whole time. If Batman was tailing him and he had been thrown into a tub of acid, Batman would obviously jump in and help him.
Is it just me or does Harvey bullock sound like Danny DeVito in Matilda?
Matt Frewer?
Big shot 8^]
No, The Batman is a completely different Animated Series
so all batman ever had to do to end the joker was stop being batman. so easy.
Well, end the Joker pulling petty heists to get his attention, sure.
Nana Nana Nana Nana Nana batman
This just proves that the existence of Batman truly does play a significant role in Gotham’s crime rate. Maybe he does do more harm than good.
Not true
They were surprised when Batman lifted Rupert by one hand. The man can bench and lift up to a 1000lbs or even more… he’s a man that trained his body to be top peaked.
Small subpoena, pena, like a male appendage, Harley has to make the joke
Day of asking for fairy tail
Without Batman,crime has no punchline.
