Thanks man, for providing this quality content for free ❤️
Thank you so much
Great creativity with lights. One large light source. One reflector. And one diffusion.
I would not have thought about that. Thank you!
Thank you!!
Book light for life. Sometimes you can BARELY see the difference, but it totally changes the feel of a shot. Just another one of those "extra steps" type things that is totally worth doing when it's applicable.
You’re so incredibly nice thank you
Class is in session, friends, thanks to Professor Brady! Thanks brother, Pure Gold here, much love for you. This is very timely, as I've been experimenting with lighting lately. Blessings. :)
I appreciate this!!
My word Brady, you're killing the game. Thank you for sharing techniques with such great material and examples for us to watch.
Thank you so much Sam!!
Awesome, the simplicity and the straightforwardness are the title of your videos kindly keep posting these wonderful gems
Hey bro just wanna say I’ve learned so much about lighting from you! Thank you so much, I don’t comment much but you’re definitely one of my favorite channels that I drop in on to learn from. Keep up the great work! 👏🏽
Hey there Qasim, thank you so much for the kind words. I’m glad I can help
@@BradyBessette You’re welcome man, you deserve it 😊.
the way I like to get the “softest light” is by having my boyfriend make a book light for me :)
The way I like to get the softest light is by diffusing your smile with a book light cause it’s so bright
@@BradyBessette nice haha

Quick and nice tutorial mate :) !!
Thank you!!
One of the more advanced lighting set ups. Awesome video!
Thank you so much
Bradford young uses book lighting in just about everything and as always love the content!
Ain’t it great!!
Gonna go practice my lighting all day later today. Thank you for this!
Sounds like a super fun day!!
Awesome, thanks for this and God bless
You’re welcome!!
This was really really great!! Thank you so much for making these videos!!
And thank YOU for the support
Thanks, Brady, the point about facing the light AWAY from the set seems so obvious once you say it... spent a lot of time flagging and draping duv over the setup because that didn't occur to me! :-) By the way, one tip that you might want to share for someone that is stuck wanting to booklight but there's no room, is using a mafer clamp on a C stand and using two arms on one C stand, for a super small and compact book light for small spaces... you basically have two 4x6 sheets and then a small light. I use unbleached to bounce into, and grid to shoot through.
Great tutorial Brady! Cheers
Love this, going to apply this to night shoots in motivating soft moonlight bounce.
Heck yeah!!!
thank you. this is so helpful !
keep sharing valuable content man ❤
Thank you!!

Little bit!!
Early to class for once
Hello!!!
Love this! Thanks as always for the quality content.
Total beast bro!
Thank you!!!
Nice tutorial, I liked iy. It was a bit confusing about blocking the spills, did not figure out fully, but It will still do. Thanks.
Well thank you very much!
yessss
Yeeees
Thank you so much for teaching these techniques. I also want to see about color grading too if possible. I do like the way of your colorgrading style.
I learn from Qazi, and Jake Pierrelee on TH-cam!
@@BradyBessette Thank you. I will search their channel🙏

Love from India Bro, thank you for all the hacks man :)
Of course!! Thank you
great video I'm gonna try this out tomorrow
Heck yeah!
One thing I like about your videos is that you don't use random ass B - roll of you doing stuff like making cofee or opening a door. All your B-roll helps enhance the video.
Honestly a huge compliment thank you so much
Definitely needed these tips
Thank you Lee!!! I’m glad this helps
Can you make a video on how to light moving subject?
Yes!!
Dude, thank u!
Bro in your video about how to shoot a horror film the music was on point for that scary experience . If you dont mind can you do a video about background music and how it effects the mood if the film. It would be great if you did one 😄. Thank you
Yes!! Thank you so much

Nice work! Brady....
Thank you!!
Hi brady. Could you make a video of how to light up moving shots? Example when making a tracking shot or a sequence shot where you can see the 360 location. Greetings from Panama🇵🇦
Yeah I think I could try that!! Thank you
Also larger light source for more catch light in the eyes.
Yes!!
Hey man great video, I had a question. To me the softbox looks like the smoother rolloff because the contrast between shadows and highlights looks less pronounced in this image. In the booklight image the shadows look stronger. Have I misinterpreted rolloff. The booklight image seems more appealling because it appears less flat but wanted to check my understanding of rolloff
Did u film this on s log…or something and grading. Or how? Or just filming and post video. Sorry for English))
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Thank you!!
Great video man, I am wondering when bouncing a cob light for the book light, will you use a soft box to bounce it to the bounce board, or will you just use the reflector dish to bounce it to the bounce board?
Good job!!
Thanks!!
For the aputure 300x + softbox, to take away some of the hotness, what if you used like a grid on top? Would have make it more natural looking?
Not a grid, but the 2 step softbox Aputure has makes it very soft!
So, what are your values for iso and f??? Great class my friend!!!
Iso 400 f3.5(ish) !! Thank you!!
@@BradyBessette thank you mi friend!!!
You’re welcome my friend!!
brady, whch camera do you use to shoot film?
BMPCC4k!! Link is in description to purchase!
Have you tried a second layer of diffusion, attached about halfway down the first layer of diffusion, so the lower area is a bit more diffused so the facial region is the hottest part of the scene?
I’d use a net
How about using a 47" parabolic softbox that also has inside diffusion and grid? Is the difference still big enough?
I’m sure it will be a similar turnout, the main goal is to have a large source!
Pls give us tips on shooting a cinematic video indoor setup pls
Can I use a clamp light from Home Depot with a shower curtain diffusion to get soft light in your opinion?
I bet you could yeah!!
@@BradyBessette thank your sir!
Professor Brady can you please conduct a lesson on proper exposure using the Blackmagic system? I'd be very willing to buy a course (Provided it's under 100$).
If you could make a genre specific(preferably horror) set of tutorials which includes all that an independent filmmaker would need (lighting. exposure, color grading etc) to make their first indie film, that would be amazing.
I said horror because there's actual money to be made in that genre. Money isn't everything but we need a source of income to finance our passion. I'm still saving up to buy a BMPCC4k, I'll hopefully save enough in a couple of years.
Thank you, a reply would be much appreciated!
That would be awesome!! Let me work on a course
@@BradyBessette I hope you know how much your response means to me.
Thank you professor! May your cup runeth over!
Do you like your 300x as well?
Yes!
I was struggling to choose between the two (panel and 300x) for my first big boy light. Any suggestions?
I would say 300x as a first light!
How do you light black talent with soft light? How do you light outdoor scenes? How do you light a wide shot with soft light. Come on man, give up the answers that we need.
Ahahah ok ok ok stop yelling!! Working on it
agree with that! Lighting black talents is different and more people should know how to light them
I often find that individuals with a darker skin tone are complimented quite nicely with a tungsten key, not at all a hard and fast rule but something I've seen
@@JacobVossFilms yeah that’s where whiter skin tones start to look less nice... always gold to know
Useful video. Just want to point out that if you have a big enough space you don’t really need to use a book light with that second diffusion layer. Simply use a very matte surface to bounce off (like muslin fabric). Give it enough distance and there will be no hot spot on the muslin - hence no real need to soften further. The other advantage of using a straight bounce is you don’t have light spilling around the edges of your front diffusion layer which can be a pain for wider shots. Personally I use 9 metres of muslin wrapped into a giant cove around my subject… if you are able to fill it evenly with 2 or 3 wide spread panel lights it’s magic.
Bro you have so many gadgets
Isn’t it fun ;)
I wish that I would have any one
Which produces the softer light, book light or cove light and which do you prefer?
Tough question, book light may, since you can get it closer, but for wides. - large cove light might be softer. I’ve never compared directly though!
@@BradyBessette Crimson Engine gave an example of the “Swiss Frame Book Light.” Which takes up less space then the regular book light. Check it out on his TH-cam page. I would love to know what you think. Thanks for your response!
this is dark
Bro subtitles not match you're voice plz rectify that
damn, man, why your videos often are so underexposed?
I love my low levels!!
