It used to be a great place to live. I was born and raised in Prescott . When the city became incorporated it was over! All the Californians came and ruined it, my lineage goes back to my great, great great grandfather worked for Wyatt earp and his brother, they worked which is now "thumb butte park" which was where the Earp's had a small sawmill, my dad told me. It was never called " horse thief basin " until the press changed it to that. I have a lot of history about Prescott but sadly it's gone. I remember apple orchards, dairies, three or four stoplights , NO WALMART etc. I remember when the train ran through. And the city council buried the trolley, which ran from the top of Gurley all the through town and to the VA . My city is gone but have great memories. Peace.
The bush with the reddish branches is a manzanita. An interesting thing about them is that the leaves grow pointing up and down instead of horizontally. That is so the leaves are less exposed to the hot sun.
Thanks for showing Horse Thief Basin. I loved in AZ for 32 years, and traveled I-17 hundreds of times. But, I never had the means to go backcountry. I appreciate you.
That’s a beautiful lake and it looks natural not man made. The last time I was in Prescott NF I was camped at White Spar campground and just before I was ready to climb into my truck to go to bed I was visited by three Javelina, just hanging out as if to welcome me to their beautiful home. I was such a great experience and one of the highlights of my trip. I now believe the Javelina is my spirit animal😊. Thanks for sharing!
I also love driving on backroads. A couple of years ago my brother and I took Road 34 from Cedarville, Ca to Gerlach, Nv. Best part of that drive was seeing some wild Mustangs and enjoying how quiet it was. We wanted to see the Fly Geyser, but the gate was locked up. We drove right by where the Burning Man Festival takes place every year. I know that Wonderhussy goes there every year. I will be looking forward to your next adventure.
Road to Crown King can usually be done in a passenger car depending on weather. Into Horse Thief basin just depends also on the weather. Worked up there and company never gave me a real truck. So got used to a family cargo van working up there.
Looks like the road is well maintained for an off highway mountain road. Nice drive with beautiful views. Hope the temperatures and wind were just right!
In the center of Arizona 45 miles north of Phoenix and 45 miles south of Prescott as the crow flies. It's beautiful mountain country! Just a few miles south you get into the lowlands of the Sonoran desert with trees replaced by saguaro and prickly pear cactus. What a trip to the middle of nowhere Sarah. So peaceful without people ,cars, campers, etc.
The good thing about being with other people in a Bear encounter is, you don't have to outrun the bear jest the slowest person. Good job on the video, nice find. stay safe run like hell thank you.
I'm a 3rd generation native of Arizona. The Bradshaws have a ton of family history. We also had history in the Payson area. Imagine camping in the Bradshaws in the 50s and 60s...no body. Ghost towns still had buildings. Stay safe out there. It's dry and windy. Fire potential is off the charts.
I looked it up on the map, and there is a forest service Horse Thief lookout tower about 3.5 miles further up the road. It would be a fantastic view of the area from up there. The lake is beautiful and I'm glad it is untouched. I feel the same about bears, I don't go into their territory. Those roads can be scary when there is such a drop off and it's one lane.
Wow, Jeepsy! Thanks so much for doing this video! I haven’t seen that road since I was 12 yrs. old! My best friend and I used to go camping up there with her mom - Bumblebee, Crown King, Horsethief Basin. I remember it fondly. Thanks so much!! 😊
My dad used to log in a place called Horse Thief Basin in Wyoming, and the picture you put on you tube looked alot like the lake at an abandoned summer camp. For a second I thought you were in Wyoming, absolutely beautiful and a great way to start my morning,
Wow. I love it. So peaceful. There is so much to gain when you isolate yourself. The woods don’t care about your past, your issues, your needs ANYTHING, but the woods have a lot to say. Things is see and feelings to FEEL. What an awesome drive. Thank you. By the way. I wouldn’t be concerned about black bears. Just by the fact you ain’t seen one yet should tell you they aren’t a problem. I’ve come across two. One was really close. It took off when we were face to face. The other I saw on a ranch I was working. Tried to play the wind and sneak closer to it for a picture. But the wind swirled is got a whiff off my ever so sweet fragrance and took off. They don’t like noise or talking. Cool Jeep. I have a Ram 3500 diesel dually. Anyhow I just wanted to say I enjoyed your video and would like to visit Prescott area one day.
What I absolutely enjoy and always look forward to seeing is the love, reverence and contentment reflected in your eyes, smile and those silent moments when you breathe it all in..💐 Continued safe and awesome travels; good health to you and the little one.🥂
Good call on being cautious. I have been up there and walked around the lake and got back to my vehicle and saw a guy coming out of the woods with his dogs and they had a mountain lion tree'd and he was going to get back up.
Looks like there may have been a not too distant forest fire there. The trunks are black and some don't have tops. But it is still strikingly beautiful.
Lived in Az my entire life, 6 years in Prescott. Never went to Horsethief Basin and after seeing your last 7 miles I’m glad I didn’t. Got carsick watching you drive!
Reminded me of fond days driving Rampart Range Road in Colorado to go dig for Crystals. Same kind of history about Outlaws and such. Beautiful area Sarah. Check it out if you're ever in that area. If you see diggings on the side of the road look in the piles for the small BEAUTIFUL Smoky Quartz crystals. Sorry the Bear ruined the hike. Best to do what you did. Many blessings
Great video Sarah! Beautiful scenery. Arizonia is my happy place, can’t wait to visit my sister in Deer Valley in November 🩷 Keep up the awesome work! 💙
Hey Sarah yeah that's a nice area up in there not too far away from my house there's a road on the backside of that mountain that goes off down towards lake pleasant.
That's one thing I need horseshoe thief basin lake. It looks like senator highway that you're driving. From Prescott to Crown King it's a lot of high desert mountain switchbacks real sharks some spots or really tight turns
Brown bears and black bears. It's been said to carry bear spray and wear tinker bells while hiking to avoid surprising them. When they're not visible they can also be identified by their sign. Black bear sign contains crushed up berries and small animal bones. Brown bear sign contains crushed up tinker bells and carries a strong odor of bear spray.
I've lived here almost all my life. Been wheelin since I was 18..... you haven't seen nothing of arizona yet...but I appreciate what your doing. Keep going...if I could thats all I would be doing.. have fun
Sarah, you talked about raising your hands in the air to make yourself look bigger to the bears, don't know if it is true, I do know that does work for geese. If a goose 🪿 does try and chase you just raise your arms like wings, and face them. I speak from experience as I worked at a hackery for 14 years. Enjoyed watching the video of the drive and lake. Keep up your travels as I don't go very much anymore so I can go with you on your travels. May God bless you and your family and friends, thanks.
It's beautiful, good job filming...what's the temperature like ? Have a beautiful day !!! I always carry a 45 ... for only defense... When my daughters were kids would camp at Kelly Park, Orlando...during a ten year period saw close to ten black bears ... they would go after ice chest... Love driving in Low Low ...
If you ever drive up Mount Palomar in California, you'll find a mountain road like that -- it isn't as long, and it is paved and a little wider, but there are tons of switchbacks and it's very lonely. There's a famous observatory at the top you can tour, with a big parking lot. I wonder if they would mind an overnight jeep. There are rental cabins on the side of the mountain.
The tree that you were talking about is a Manzanita. Did you climb the fire tower? You can see Cardinals Stadium from it. This video was sentimental too me. Used to drive up there almost every week during the 13yrs that I lived in Cordes Lakes.🐾🙏🏻✌🏻
Prescott mountains are gorgeous. Passed thru them when we were going to Cottonwood to bury my son. He lived in Cottonwood and was quite successful. Wait until you get towards Jerome! Magical! I had never felt so at peace there. I think you’re going to really like it there. If you do go there….i hope you do! 🙂🙂
I do that drive from Prescott to Jerome it is beautiful.. I live in Prescott..You should take Jerome to Williams.. right there in Jerome where the fire department is at that turn take that road straight, it goes right by the fire station it's called Perkinsville road. I do it about twice a month.. it's pretty rough as in bumpy so air down to about 18 or 20 lb if you can. ..
Hi❤ I know what you mean about the bears, and I'm an old Mtn Girl. But, I'm always carrying at least a little pistol , that'll scare him off. In most cases. Bring a big pistol😅 We Love you Grl 🎉
There is a road in Colorado between Central City and Interstate 70 that is popularly called Oh My God Road, for the same reasons you mentioned. I have driven it once. Never again! 😁
I got all 3 badges for Az. I have only seen black bear out in the wild, I didn't know the raise your arms way up thing. All the ones I ran across didn't seem to worried about me. I was worried once when I came within touching distance to a cub, I knew momma had to be close but nothing happened never seen momma. I'll have to check that lake area for Geocaches
That truly is Heavy annd Far Out there sister!....but being from West Virginny, I ain't skeered of that road.😁 But as Always, safe travels and Thumbs up!😎👍
The back way from lake pleasant to crown king is the badge of honor trail..... never seen a bear up there in over 30 years. Not that there not there.... never seen one
Nice video, Sarah! I didn't know about the Jeep badges of honor. I'll have to see if there are trails nearby I can get to and earn one or two. Kudos to you for yours, and thanks for sharing the tour with us.
So I thought a bit on my idea of towing a small motorcycle tent trailer. I don't guess that would make you feel safe, now that I think about it! The best idea is to send money, you'll figure it out! Take care.
That is the best maintained forest service road i have seen in a long time. The 2 forest service roads that resemble that drive have what we call blowouts where it is fine powdery sand. Once and a while i will drive those 2 roads in my van. Its tricky but I have confidence in my skills. Used to drive a water truck up and down stuff like that all the time. Safe travels for you and little one. Before i forget, once i get to the top of those two roads you can see the black hills on a good clear day 😊
Hi , I've been a fan of your travels for quite some time. I love your nomad spirit , I'm currently rehabbing a 26' TT. I'll be full-time nomad off-grid spring of 2025. I hope to see you out there & sample some of that famous Jambalaya ❤. I too am quite the chef , so I may have a few surprises up my chef's apron . Be safe & happy 😊.
Did the full way of Ceown King to Presott one yewr on a weekday with th n young son. Wewther was good and just a higher clearance 2wd with light truck mostly roadish tires.
Well kid try Leadville Colorado for summer, but wait for the snow to be gone in June, no snakes many mountains above timber line it real a good place take many photos
I've been following you for awhile. In spite of your nerves, this episode is soooo beautiful and relaxing! ❤ Poetic, perfect cadence, feels emotionally and mentally authentic YOU are REALLY good at this whole TH-cam thing! (I'm 56 f traveling with a truck and 29ft travel trailer😊🎉
I have ridden my horse through this area many times. Prescott is a beautiful place to live. So is Dewey!
It used to be a great place to live. I was born and raised in Prescott . When the city became incorporated it was over! Yay you're the first person I heard say Prescott correctly in a long long time even people that live here have forgotten 😂
Taking the road less traveled has made all the difference!
Good idea leaving your dog in the car. No need to be packing a bear snack on your back-that goes for cougars too!
Thanks for showing Horse Thief Basin. I loved in AZ for 32 years, and traveled I-17 hundreds of times. But, I never had the means to go backcountry. I appreciate you.

Wasn't expecting the lake, did a double-take. WILD animals never know the rules. A good call.
Dang that's a well maintained dirt road. Another great video Sarah!

Love the first line ..."sometimes you just have to find a dirt road" ... couldn't agree with you more. Great scenery. Thx for sharing.

It’s a beautiful lake and mountain. I’d be afraid of any bears out in front of me.
What a beautiful area, surprised there's no one else around, maybe the bears got them! LOL

Profound words! You expressed the internal experience of this lifestyle beautifully. 💚
Very beautiful. Thank-you for taking reasonable precautions.
Love your life and choice of vehicle. I hear you on them sidehills…gives me the butterflies too sometimes
Beautiful country. Been to Prescott and Sedona.
I love this lifestyle and hope I can do it one day. Thanks for sharing your adventures.

Enjoyed Glad for power steering 😊
I live in Illinois so I don’t get to drive my Jeep on trails like that. It’s nice to see these cool places in your videos
Your inner peace radiates , that's why I love watching your videos , hope all is well and keep being you cuz your great!!!
❤ you’re taller than I am Sara. I’m only 5 foot 4 3/4.❤❤
Looks Spooky Place !!!!😮😮😮😮😮😮😮

A good spot for a rock concert!
I get the same feeling about heights. Driving or hiking. It's more of an accomplishment getting through it though.
Love the bullet holes on the sign behind you.
You said you have an issue and yet you do it anyway! ❤❤❤❤
Is there fishing?
Ah, bass and typical warm lake varieties!
What a beautiful adventure, thanks for taking us along.

Senator highway is an old stage coach line. Follow it from crown king all the way to prescott.... it's beautiful.
It's beautiful, good job filming...what's the temperature like ? Have a beautiful day !!! I always carry a 45 ... for only defense... i wrote a Motorcycle song about cruising Arizona, " Easy Rider"

One more old words of wisdom if you fall off a mountain. It not the fall that will get you it's the sudden stop at the bottom.
There is a road in Colorado between Central City and Interstate 70 that is popularly called Oh My God Road, for the same reasons you mentioned. I have driven it once. Never again! 😁

Purple and red branches are probably manzanita bushes. A protected species.
Yes, the purple/red branches are manzanita. Hard wood - Makes a great, hot campfire with even sparkles and pops because of oil in the leaves! :)
Nice drive… even though it gave me anxiety coming down 😝 Love to see how you test your limits 👍🏼 Stay Safe 🙏🏼 Until next time 💕
That truly is Heavy annd Far Out there sister!....but being from West Virginny, I ain't skeered of that road.😁

Yeah what said about the drive and hello 😊
Beautiful scenery
Beautiful wow❤
You can get along way's down the road with a slow measured assent!

The bear would know you're not big it will think you're crazy like A Wolverine 😊

Another amazing video thank you ❤
You can boondocks camp at Leadville
I'm a water girl water I love hearing water move about
I've been following you for awhile. In spite of your nerves, this episode is soooo beautiful and relaxing! ❤
Poetic, perfect cadence, feels emotionally and mentally authentic
YOU are REALLY good at this whole TH-cam thing!
(I'm 56 f traveling with a truck and 29ft travel trailer😊🎉
Thank you!
It worked for me to hit the alarm on my vehicle. It scared the bear away. Well that’s if you’re near it.
3rd AZ video of yours I just watched. Not sure where you are from but next time you are here we can get you your next 2 AZ badges of honor.
Another great vid!
There are hot springs up there to
