    I train Police K9 for more than 30 years now.
    I have had them all, German Shepherd, Belgian Malinois and the Dutch Shepherd.
    The Dutch Shepherd is and will ever be my favorite.
    Never mistaken a Belgian Malinois for a Dutch Shepherd when it comes to character because they are so many differences.
    Today, I have two Dutch Shepherds I train with, every day it is a blessing to work with them.
    And yes, you need to give them a "job", they will work with you and for you and they will do anything you ask them to do.
    When I'm not training with them, I go on many mountain bike rides or on very long walks.
    No matter what I do with them, it is always so much fun.
    The Dutch Shepherd is like the best version of the Shepherd cousins.
    It takes the best characteristics of all of them and blend them in to one.

    I can tell you what you are saying is quite true, I would add that they are mostly oriented on 1 owner so a dog walker is near impossible! They often even refuse to walk with other family members, also they will be very aware of their surroundings at all times so to make sure they understand stuff like you hugging a visitor, otherwise they might see it as an issue.

    Its good to see that you and your dogs are still doing well. I did want to add to be careful with the cheaper e collars. They can be inconsistent with the stim level. I went that route at first and after using them on myself i was very disappointed. I ended up getting a mini educator, but dogtra is just as good. I had an amazon cheapy collar that when i tried in in my hand at the lowest level zapped me so bad that it pretty much jumped out of my hand. An e collar is a key piece of training equipment, make sure you get quality.

Not as excitable as Belgian malnois but very energetic, protective, vigilant, athletic, and very loving. When I get up at night to go to the bathroom and my she has crawled on the bed next to my pillow I always smile.

After a few years I came home from work, and there was my wife with a pup, I said " I don't want another". he is a Dutch shepherd, love that lad to death, so funny and always wants to play, so glad I have a wife that knows...

    We just committed to a new 4mo old stray rescue we adopted after fostering her for only a week! 😂 She is too good to let go. DNA test pending but she is dominant shorthair Dutchy and maybe mal mix…bets are placed. As a long time Dobie owner currently w/ a vibrant 4yo female, the Dutchy is so very different and it’s fun to discover those differences. They are growing to love each other and play together well. Having active dogs in pairs makes a huge difference. I loved watching your boys patrol those beautiful grounds so confidently. Great video and thanks for sharing this! 👍🫡

I have known Dutch Shepherds for 60 years or more (my mother had one in the mid-1960s) and just the idea of thinking Dutchies aren't energetic seems utterly ridiculous. The energy level of a Dutch Shepherd is INSANE, with blinding speed to boot. I have NEVER seen a Dutch Shepherd you could even remotely call non-energetic. High energy is one of their core traits.

    great dogs, I am looking into dutch shepherds for myself as protection dogs and help around the farm. Noticed you give them shot yearly, I would look into that more because the more shots you give them the more their risks to chronic health issues (including cancer) increases and lifespan shortens. We all want our dog to be healthy so I recommend reading the studies on that on your own to see for yourselves.

    Thanks for your channel, rescued a 3 month puppy from a local shelter, it was labeled as a Chow and named Noodles, immediately knew is was some kind of shepherd, fast forward 5 months, I’m definitely a proud owner of a Dutch Shepherd, looks identical to one of yours. My dog came with the name Noodles, I renamed him Ike on the way home from the shelter, I somehow knew he was a far cry from a noodle. Ike sounded kinda Viking, I was so right on with the name. Think he’s going to be the best dog I’ve ever had. Agree with you 100% with the neutering, wish Ike had a vasectomy to keep the hormones flowing 😎😎😎

    The biggest concern for me is their energy levels. I have a yard that is a couple acres large and I live out in the country, so I can go walking in the woods with the dog every other day. The dog would spend most of the day outside, except for certain weather conditions that may be too extreme. I also have a dog that hunts rabbits, so some hunting every now and then. Based on this single video I think a Dutch Shepherd wouldn't be too bad of an option.

    I'm really curious: how difficult was training for both of your dogs? I've seen so many people online talk about how they're constantly training and working their dutch shepherds and that just sounds like a recipe for a neurotic dog. And do they settle well/did you have to teach either of them an off switch? Sorry if this is a lot of questions, I just love dutch shepherds and would love to have one, but I gotta do my due diligence with my research lol

    • @predictionpain2632
      @predictionpain2632  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My best advice is to be consistent, get an e collar for training, go to puppy obedience school. I don’t think you can train an off switch but you can exercise them and wear them out, mental stimulation is the best.

    • @Haagsebluf
      @Haagsebluf ปีที่แล้ว

      Mentale drain them, thats the best way and fastest to turn mine "off" kind of,... for an hour ;P Know what you ask for and find a good bloodline. If you choose for a working line one prepare your ass!! It's a lot of dogg.. They are very good to train and you can fire them up easily,.. Keep them in a chilling vibe is not really possible, they recharge fast! I wouldn't call it neurotic, just ON!! It's a wonderful dog if you have enough time to spend with them, good for your health because you will loose your belly if you have one ;P BUT, if you don't have enough time and energy to put in you setup for trouble.
      They will fuck your place up if you think you can "skip" them for a day whahaha Long story short, If you have time, energy, and you love to be outdoor! Can't find a better buddy!! But don't put them in a crate for 9 hours a day while your away for work. JUST DON'T!! These dogs are walking full time jobs...
      I don't know the non workline but this is my adventure ;P So if you want to know more from my side of view,... just give a yell.
      Hope this helps you out, they are fun though!!

Felix has zero problems with that. He has high ball drive. Mine doesn’t bark without command. He had a job before his retirement.
    If you have the time, maturity, cash…… its something more then a dog. A lot more

      I've had German Shepherds and now have a Dutch Shepherd. The best way to compare would be to say a Dutchy is a GSD on crack. They more muscular, get separation anxiety, without having the hip or health problems of GSD. Mine is less tolerant and very wary of any other dog that comes around me even though I've socialized him early on with both people and other dogs. He just doesn't like another animal being too close. When someone visits, both of my dogs have a little fight frenzy letting company know they are on the watch list, and they position themselves close enough to interject if needed as if by instinct. Duchies need at least 3-4 hours a day exercise, and they are very obedient when trained. If you don't have the time or space for one, do not get one. I also wouldn't advise a Dutch Shepherd for a first time dog owner.

    get a e collar from dogtra or ecollartechnologies instead of these anti bark collars. They are very bad and can even explode! The e collars are like tens machines and dont harm your dog and theyre very good Tools if conditioned right. They have a tone and vibrate too and you can have a double dog system or finger click to always have it on you.

    I just ended up with my first Dutch-anything. Actually she’s a Dutch-Mal cross. She’s got the coloring of the Mal and the size and goofiness of a Dutch. I was looking for a purebred Mal, I did a DNA test just to be sure. I am so happy with her anyways. I have had her for about a year now and she learns quickly and is protective. I’m keeping her intact because I might want more Dutch-Mal crosses.

    Sure, all DS's are different... here is one certainty.... DO _NOT_ GET A DS / MAL if you're not prepared to make time to spend training / exercising them. Also you have to pay attention to what they pay attention to or else they can develop some VERY bad habits. _HOW_ did you get your dog to gain weight? My girl can't gain weight at all.

    They looked watered down. Ofncoirsenth3y make good pets. They're German shepherd mixed with non working line Dutch.

    “If you don’t like walking dogs you shouldn’t get one of these.” If you don’t like walking dogs you shouldn’t own a dog period (obviously you seem to get them out enough, but not everyone has a yard).

    Im sorry man but you are doing them a disservice with your lack of knowledge on e collars. Tone vibration and shock are very different things. Shepards bark. E collars are wonderful tools if used properly.

    Having trained working dogs for years, YOU DO NOT NEED AN ELECTRONIC BARK COLLAR OR E-COLLAR, it's damn cruel and completely ruins your dog. Teach and train them correctly, don't abuse them!

    I was with you until you mentioned that you sterilized your dogs. If the reason that this is just wrong has to be explained, you won't understand anyway....
