I'm not using it as my main computer, but I used it a lot rather than my PC, but the iPad has it's limit, I will use the keyboard if I need a lots of typing since it's more easier and convenient like when I'm using the Microsoft office or taking notes, but other than that I'm not using it, so far I frequently use the pen, it's more convenient, for the mouse I never use it because you can just use the touch screen
If you don't want to buy the pen is okay, unless you want to use the ipad for drawing or taking notes then better buy it, but any kind of brand will do, there's lot of alternate pencil that you can buy to replace the apple pencil, like the logitech or Goojodoq or ZVRUA brand etc, more cheaper than apple pencil, I buy no brand pencil and it works well until now
