That stack into the tree is priceless and one of the reasons I’ve spent hours watching these vids. So genuine, so helpful, always amusing. Thanks Jens.
Mate your videos are the best! I moved to Japan last year and had never skiied before, so I watched your beginner tutorial and by the 2nd day I was flying down the mountain with my skis parallel!!! I recently got back from another little ski trip where I was starting to practice some carving from another one of your tutorials, I am absolutely hooked! This video will be great for tackling that sweet japow at the top of the mountain! Thank you so much, keep up the good work!
I've started watching quite a few instructional videos for skiing online and yours are the best I've come across. Love the editing with the lines to really emphasis key points, as well as the mic work while skiing. Top notch!
8:18 🤣🤣🤣 growing up skiing in Colorado, I feel ya!! That's exactly the feeling we get addicted to. Technique is completely dependent on conditions: whether it's champagne powder, hardpack, crust, sierra cement, dust on crust, groomed corduroy, or ice out East, you play with gravity to flow down the hill. 💕
The fore and aft movement is the best explanation I have heard on how to get the skis to come out of the snow at the end of a turn. Being a piste skier for years I learnt very quickly that I needed to steer with the feet when in powder, but I have struggled with getting a good up and down motion in powder, transferring the weight onto the heels towards the end of the turn makes so much sense. Can’t wait to have a chance try it out.
Yes but do not be backseated. If your new to powder it can be easier to just focus on the pumping drill I talk about in my how to ski powder 10 tips video. I aimed this video to intermediate powder skiers.
Thank you so much for all these priceless tips!!! I'm skiing Fernie for the first time and I just thought I would be better in the pow. 😂 One step at a time. Thanks again! CHEERS
Nice Jens. I am resigned to skiing vicariously through your videos this season! Drone footage and Tarantino style sound track a nice tweak. Keep it up.
I recently started skiing and after my first couple days on the mountain this season I sat down and watched almost every video posted! Thank you for the awesome content!
Love your stuff!! My wife and I live in Montana about 20 minutes from a great ski hill and I'm always telling her, "check out this new thing from Jens!" Your free stuff has greatly improved my technique - I can only imagine what a ski camp would do! Thanks for making such great content.
“Oh it feels so good” sounded very naughty lol. And so pure, so real and honest when nothing else matters only real joy meeting the tree! Love new edits, style, variety! What + ski settings would you recommend when starting powder? Any tips to get easier into fall and get recovered? Its so hard to get up ang get into skiis in powder. Tips searching for lost ski deep in snow? Questions from newbie powder skier and snowboarder. :)
If I am blessed to have powder days, I always use a monoski. Yes, I'm old school. Stay in the fall line, stay balanced with turn, turn, turn allowing the ski to come around. Getting excited for the soon to be here ski season.
Come to Gaspésie, many place to ski whit plenty if pow from december to april, A normal day at Mont Lyal in Gaspésie, Québec, Canada... th-cam.com/video/fm-Fi0SVZNg/w-d-xo.html
Great video on proper technique in powder! The only thing I wish you had done was more emphasis on the danger of tree wells, how the snow can collapse under the trees and how people have suffocated after falling into them. Stay away from tree wells!
Can you shoot me some info on the different skis you had on in the video?? I see I think 3 different pairs.. wondering why you switched out and I would love a video on how to change skis midway down the hill as well, ;) ! I saw what looked like a mostly white pair, your atomics, and then a multi-colored pair. I am wondering as well, how you had the bindings mounted on them, (i.e. midmount or traditional mount, etc.) Thanks!
@@baernly AM skis can get you pretty far, I had 70mm width slope skis when I was growing up and you can still go in the pow and have fun... Sure it´s not compareable to 120mm ones but if you learn it on slim ones than its gonna be easy on the big boys :)
@@froznfire9531 my kid's the same and they're all he wants to ride....for now but he still does pretty well even in pow which must be pushing his skill so when he gives in and gets on some fatties he'll be loooooving it
Very nice, thx. Would be very interesting to get some insights on how the feet feel in the boots. I often have the impression skiing uneven pow or crud my feet are heavily pushed around in the boots. If I jump and land in deeper snow I almost fear being launched out of my boots. Any thoughts?
I have trouble keeping my skis together skiing in powder. My uphill ski catches in the snow and pulls away. I think. Key word I think I’m doing zigzag turns and need to not steer so sharp. Any thoughts are appreciated.
I am thinking about buying bent chetler 120 with the shift binding, I am light (64kg) but I ski pretty hard, I would use them for touring, freeride and some tricks in pow, do you think the factory recommended mounting point is good for my use?
I have the exact same setup as you, 184 version. I mounted them recommended and they are really playful, I like them but sometimes they feel a bit wobbly. Check out his video for different mounting options, he mounts them a bit rearwards. And BTW, they are AMAZING IN POWDER. Have fun Jacopo!
Blister said that that combination was pretty ideal, if you're looking for a very playful ride you'll probably love them at recommended. If you want a bit more of a directional ride I doubt mounting back 2 cm would ruin the ski (that's what I did on my Revolt 121s with basically the same mount point, works great for me)
A, they can work like anchors dragging you down in case of an avalanche. B, Incase of falling into a tree well you can get tangled up making it harder to get out or get your skis off.
Thanks a lot for the great content! I never knew how to powder ski and after watching this video and the how-to-jump video (th-cam.com/video/z3imDw76vwY/w-d-xo.html) i felt right at home two turns in. Such a bliss! The "turn with your feet" and "start with banana turns" examples helped me a lot! Been skiing alpine since I was 5, but never offpist.
