  • Second part on my RC truck.
    Updating/upgrading stuff and running into new problems, as always.
    Next video will probably be reworked gearbox and ninjaflex shocks?
    I also need to make a body sometime...

    Great project. You could try Loctite to fix the gears to the shafts but it is a one way trip. Only way I know of reversing it is applying heat which isn't going to work well with the plastic. What about a split collar, designed into the side of the gear to clamp onto the shaft? Not sure if you have enough room for this? Or you could try drilling cross holes through the gear & shaft and press in a small pin?
    What's the Cats name? I have a great little male Cat, Rusty. Always inquisitive and wanting to be apart of what I am doing.
    Love what you are doing, keep up the good work.

      Thanks! I'm pretty sure I did try using superglue on one of those gears as a last resort before tearing it apart for upgrades.. :) The V2 used more hole&pin but it was tedius to make with all the fine drilling and I want this to be easy to make so more people can enjoy it. The V3 I'm currently working on is using printed shafts with push-fit connectors which you then just hold in place with a screw, hence keeping all the torque against bigger surfaces, should cause less stress.
      She's named Siri(Not after Apples Siri), very curious but always from a distant haha.
      You should check out my new videos, I've made a lot of progress since this V1 truck :)

    Those tires won't do so well if you want it to be like a truck and tow something. But other than that it's so cool!

    im in process of printing. had to shorten the frame pieces to fit my printer, hopefully it will still work ok

    • @MrCrankyface
      @MrCrankyface  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +James Hunt Nice :) How big print area do you have? For future projects I'm considering making everything max 20x20cm so more people can print them without mods.

      +Mr.Crankyface My bed is 225x192. prusa i3. I have also come across another issue. The droppers in the frame for the 4 link are sized so a m4 screw can thread straight in yet the axle end works nicely with m3. Im not sure if this is a printing error my end but ill have to get some different rod ends to solve it,
      last thing , the front axle spring mounts dont line up with the chassis, i assume this is so they clear the link arms?
      Great project so far its printing and fitting together so well, Good Job!

    • @MrCrankyface
      @MrCrankyface  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +James Hunt Ah, good to know :) I checked the dropper issue and the STL seems to have 3.3mm holes for some reason, I must've missed some revision when I uploaded the V1 frame, I'll pay extra attention to this on the V2 frame which is hopefully out soon(It's been super busy lately).
      One thing you could do if the hole isn't way too big is to fill with a tiny bit of superglue and let it dry then try to use a M3 again, this has worked for me when the tolerances has been off.
      The front axle spring mounts mis-alignment was by accident to be perfectly honest but since it helped clear a bit for the linkages I left it there.
      Thanks :) Hopefully the V2 will be even better.

      Hey how hard is the whole 3d printing process. I was interested in 1 but it seems like it would be higher skill level then I'm at and would your computer need to be sophisticated Enough to handle printer?

    • @MrCrankyface
      @MrCrankyface  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +onthevirg715 I'd say learning how to design your objects is the hard part. I've been teaching myself CAD software for years now and still feel I lack a lot :) You could do 3D printing even with a budget PC or laptop. I recommend getting a printer with SD memory card reader, that way you export your files from PC to a SD card and printer only needs the SD card to print.

    • @onthevirg715
      @onthevirg715 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea that's kinda what I was scared of. I'm not a super high tech kind of person but I def appreciate the tips on the SD card sounds smart anyways. Maybe I'll take it up when I have the time to design something lol but thanks again.

    Sorry, I want to know. How much time do you spend in the print part?

    • @MrCrankyface
      @MrCrankyface  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For this simple one, probably around 20-30 hours of print time. It's probably around ~30-40 parts.

    • @MrCrankyface
      @MrCrankyface  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's based on tamiya 1:14 but the measurements are pretty much 1:10 of the real TAM-110.

    3D print is expensive ?

    • @MrCrankyface
      @MrCrankyface  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on what you print and with what material. I tend to mostly use PLA plastic which is cheaper(~20euro per kilogram). This lets you print quite a lot of things at a low cost.
