I was 18 years old and doing research in Nicaragua in Managua when the Earthquake hit that caused much death and destruction. Howard Hughes was living there at the time in the Penthouse of the Intercontinental Hotel which looked like a pyramid with a boxcar on top. Of course. Garifuna people exist all throughout "Central" America. Honduras, Belize, Costa Rica, Panama, etc. I'm sure even the black people in Mexico are loosely related to them. The spanish and Portuguese brought alotta those people from the same tribes and sprinkled them throughout the continent.

Is not technically land locked since the San Juan river connects the Lake Nicaragua to the Atlantic ocean, that's how the sharks ended up in the lake making their way through the San Juan river to the lake and pirates used it as a entrance to raid cities like Granada in the past.
They don't consider themselves as Central American or part of the rest of those countries because their spoken language is English they developed a different culture because of that.
Yeah, many people who I have told that I am from Belize think that Belize is a Hispanic country. The only reason it isn’t is because the first language is English (Belizean creole) not Spanish.
@@scintillam_dei Nicaraguans ARE multi talented intellectual people. The Spanish/ castellano you speak now is the modernization of Rubén Dario. This has already been stated by the Spanish empire. Gallo pinto or gallopinto is a traditional dish of Nicaragua and Costa Rica, consisting of rice and beans as a base. Gallo pinto has a long history and is important to various Latin American cultures. The beans in gallo pinto are quickly cooked until the juice is almost consumed, then combined with readied rice, and other ingredients such as cooked bell peppers, chopped onions, and garlic.
@@youtubecommentreview4642 I agree. There is debate about which country coined that dish's name. There is no "Gallo" in Gallo pinto per se. So for a non-Costa Rican/ Nicaraguan person ordering something that may have chicken in its name, is grossly a misnomer. is like saying "French Fries" but you get deep fried Cucumber Slices German Style!
Tip Toe what colour would that be? Im talking about gallo pinto for its namesake because it has the word “gallo” in it. It is disappointed to a non-central American because you don’t get any “rooster” at all. It is a veggie dish.
Sadly the Costa Rica x Nicaragua relationship is not like that (at least with the government) many people in the power are even mirroring Trump's treatment to Latinos, saying nicaraguan's only bring problems and debt to the government because they do not pay taxes nor medical treatment, is a tight up situation, and very controversial tbh

As a Salvadoran I feel kinda bad for Nicaragua because we consider our best friends the other countries in the Central American north triangle (Guatemala and Honduras) but we don’t pay too much attention to Nicaragua while they consider us their best friends . Sometimes I think nicaragua is a little bit obsessed with El Salvador lol we have almost the same flag and they made their national bird the same as ours. We love you Nicas and we don’t deserve you 🇸🇻❤️🇳🇮
I'm Costa Rican and I think we don't appreciate Nicaraguans enough, we don't like their government but that shouldn't mean we should dislike the people too, I've always seen central America as a family, and like a family, members get along better with some members than others (like Costa Rica being bffs with Panama) but we shouldn't hate each other.
For one moment I thought that Nicas will recognize Honduras as one of their best friends since I know lots of Nicas and they all agree on that last statement, anyways I think we should be a whole country GT, ES, HN y NC unified.

I always thought that the contras were Americans that disguised themselves with high tech masks as little Nicaraguans. They probably even learned the way Nicaraguans speak Spanish. I saw the movie Mission Impossible.
Yeah, the ussr and cuban intervention
@@JuanMartinez-fs6gu They were partly the old regime( Somoza) police man and many Hondurans got paid to help.

@Lazy Greek Stereotype no one cares
I’ve been to Granada and it was beautiful. Also got to visit Apoyo Lagoon and a Masaya volcano on the way back to Costa Rica. When I was at the Costa Rican border, there was loads of African immigrants in tents made of bin bags trying to get into Nicaragua 🇳🇮
So many of these videos I watch and am like “that sounds cool” BUT I’VE ACTUALLY CLIMBED CERRO NEGRO! Thanks for these videos, guys
Nicaragua seems like a beautiful country.
"Honest uptight confrontation beats false delusional sense of complacency any day." One of the best lines ever!
@Almas Kadri No, I am American but have been to India twice. Jai Hind!

Just give them the coordinates.
Yo I love my Central American brethren and that includes the Pinoleros! So happy this video finally came out 💕
I was 18 years old and doing research in Nicaragua in Managua when the Earthquake hit that caused much death and destruction. Howard Hughes was living there at the time in the Penthouse of the Intercontinental Hotel which looked like a pyramid with a boxcar on top. He flew in bulldozers and earth moving equipment for relief work with one requirement. His plane had to be the first one to leave the Airport . We drove out and flew home from Honduras. Quite the adventure !

Nicaragua seems like the Latino Ireland in many ways.
@Daniel No it's not. It's one of the most rural in Europe. Ireland barely has many cities
maybe that's because ireland has less than 5 million people?
Steezyjunior13 Just because a country only has one or two major Cities doesn’t mean it can’t be rich. Look at Switzerland and Norway.
Probably more like the Greece
@Daniel Because Germany is one of the most populated, industrialized, and well established countries in Europe; plus they got many cities.
As soon as I heard "The New Jersey of Central America" I knew this was gonna be rough
Side note: I'm from NJ please don't hurt me
What did he meant by "the NJ of central america" ?
He meant like the people there will either be your best friend or your worst enemy without much wiggle room, and also kinda potty-mouthed or something along those lines
same
I mean-
They ain’t wrong

Also their festivals are the same, very hispanic.
2nd poorest country in the Americas and one of the lowest crime rates? Shows that the average Nicaraguan values life
savioblanc interesting
Little managua resident here. Amazing people
Love Nicaragua from Greece. 🇬🇷😍❤️🇳🇮
I didn't know that there where Garifuna people in Nicaragua too. Love from Belize 🇧🇿
I’m from Belize too. And yes, Garifuna people exist in Belize, Honduras, Guatemala and Nicaragua
Garífunas are very respectful and down to earth people, the ones I've met in Guatemala. 👍
Lol belize isn't real (jkjk)

As a Salvadoran we are brothers. We that brave indios lol
Awesome video as always! I've been to ometepe island in 2014 and it was incredible and practically untouched. We even walked on the runway of the airport that was not yet finished. I wonder what it's like today...
Pues llegaron muchos turistas pero en lugar de estar en hoteles simplemente se integraron a la vida diaria de los pueblos como moyogalpa y el país intenta afrontar lo malo con actitud positiva
And Belize is like the English-speaking foreign adoptee of the family that gets along well with the others, even trying to speak Spanish to get along with his brothers
As a Belizean I can't agree more
@@cupidsproblem3915 Coolio. Did you like the video on Nicaragua though?
And I believe, no pun intended, the same can be said for Guyana, French Guiana and Suriname for South America's family
When I lived in Belize, I spoke English and was taught Spanish. When I moved from Belize to the United States, I spoke in a really bad Belizean accent. I then learned to speak American English and I took Spanish in high school.
Also us the rest of Central America forgets about Belize all the time.
I don't hate Belize but it's the truth
¡Un abrazo a los hermanos nicas! Saludos desde Costa Rica.
We (kinda) hate you, but me not! Nosotros (un poco) los odiamos, pero yo no!
From a Nicaraguan: first, some mistakes: you wrote "Grenada" instead of "Granada" for the city picture, otherwise pretty accurate about directions hahaha, great episode overall!! many thanks guys.

I’m from here thank you I have been waiting for years thanks for making the video
Me encanta 😍 siempre e querido visitar Nicaragua 🇳🇮 saludos desde Honduras 🇭🇳
My friend just came back from a week long trip to Nicaragua today!
Nicaragua is awesome! They even have a land-locked lake with sharks. :)
Is not technically land locked since the San Juan river connects the Lake Nicaragua to the Atlantic ocean, that's how the sharks ended up in the lake making their way through the San Juan river to the lake and pirates used it as a entrance to raid cities like Granada in the past.
The way they do directions in Nicaragua is exactly the same as the way we do it in Delaware.
Had to pick any Spanish speaking country to do a presentation about at school and I picked Nicaragua and it's such a cool place
We might be poor but we are kind people whenever someone is in need we can always lend a helping hand! ♥
Similar to the Greeks, we give you food you’d better eat it!
I CAN'T BELIZE YOU FORGOT ABOUT BELIZE IN YOUR INTRO!
I can't Belize it
I thought Belize was the Him doing the British accent
They don't consider themselves as Central American or part of the rest of those countries because their spoken language is English they developed a different culture because of that.
I think the reason Belize was not there was because Belize was colonized by The UK,not Spain and Belize speaks English, not Spanish
Yeah, many people who I have told that I am from Belize think that Belize is a Hispanic country. The only reason it isn’t is because the first language is English (Belizean creole) not Spanish.
You didn't mention Gioconda Belli among the writers, she's a big deal here. Btw, amazing depiction of Nicaragua, you made me weep at the end

Classic dishes: Gallo Pinto
*Costa Rica watches closely and with anger*
Gallo pinto or gallopinto is a traditional dish of Nicaragua and Costa Rica, consisting of rice and beans as a base. Gallo pinto has a long history and is important to various Latin American cultures. The beans in gallo pinto are quickly cooked until the juice is almost consumed, then combined with readied rice, and other ingredients such as cooked bell peppers, chopped onions, and garlic.
Cuba has congri
@@youtubecommentreview4642 I agree. There is debate about which country coined that dish's name. There is no "Gallo" in Gallo pinto per se. So for a non-Costa Rican/ Nicaraguan person ordering something that may have chicken in its name, is grossly a misnomer. is like saying "French Fries" but you get deep fried Cucumber Slices German Style!
@@robzun8494 the beans and rice are the colour of a rooster that's why
Tip Toe what colour would that be? Im talking about gallo pinto for its namesake because it has the word “gallo” in it. It is disappointed to a non-central American because you don’t get any “rooster” at all. It is a veggie dish.
Sadly the Costa Rica x Nicaragua relationship is not like that (at least with the government) many people in the power are even mirroring Trump's treatment to Latinos, saying nicaraguan's only bring problems and debt to the government because they do not pay taxes nor medical treatment, is a tight up situation, and very controversial tbh
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA that intro!!!

I don’t think Nicas are close with their northern neighbors.
Lazy Greek Stereotype Who tf cares about a stupid war that happened 50 years ago, and why should we hate each other? Lol what a stupid comment
Psumk I’ve known a lot of nicas who say that we’re their closest friend and the video says so

Many Nicaraguas, especially from the north have Basque background. E.g. Zelaya famous leader.
