@@Destroyer-od5dm yes and no. Separatist were of course nowhere near happy with the central government, however the video does give a hint and what actually happened. The Colombian government did not want the US involvement on the construction of the canal, so the US sold the separatist the idea that they would support independence without requiring anything back from them, so afterwards the US basically invaded Colombia and send also warships to block the Colombian ports. Once Panama was granted independence under this amicable environment, the US flexed their muscles again against the separatist, making them sign a treaty that would give the US complete control of the canal forever. Basically the US used their well known "bigger army diplomacy" against everyone involved just meet their goals.

As a Mexican we had a Hungarian emperor and the French also tried to invade the country. It would've been cool to have spoken another European language or have more European blood in our country. We're all mostly Spanish descent.
The thing with Colombia is that we, Panama, join them when it was part of the Gran Colombia because we were afraid of a re-colonization from Spain since we are a small country.

Fun video highlighting Panama! When my friends and I were in college in the States our friends DID call us the Panamaniacs! @@JuanMartinez-bs9ck problably the only ones who begged where the separatists

Yeah, he probably just pulled the information about Panama from Wikipedia and probably spent under an hour looking/"reading" the page. Probably also skipped the section of Demographics of Panama
Im from Panamá and im proud of my COUNTRY 🇵🇦🇵🇦🇵🇦✌️
As a Scotsman, I approve at your attempt at the accent. hahaha
Lol imagine Scotland in Central America
As a Mexican we had a Hungarian emperor and the French also tried to invade the country. It would've been cool to have spoken another European language or have more European blood in our country. We're all mostly Spanish descent.
Stop making fun of Keith's music segment! It's actually kinda my favourite. I'm a musician.

The thing with Colombia is that we, Panama, join them when it was part of the Gran Colombia because we were afraid of a re-colonization from Spain since we are a small country.

Besides that a very good synopsis of how Panama became a country. It’s a great country to visit and live.
BEAUTIFUL!! I miss being there. All my moms family, PANAMA!!! 🇵🇦 ❤️ yall much
I’m Panamanian and I must say kudos to you guys. This is a well researched and presented video with accurate and up-to-date information (the only faux pas I picked up was that the Torrijos-Carter Treaty was signed in 1977, not in 1979 and that you renamed Port of Cristóbal as Port of Colón), which is a rarity when it comes to videos like these. Well done!
Keith you forgot to mention that one song by Van Halen called Panama
Glad I'm not the only one who thought about the song. It's about a car and not the country unfortunately.
So you can punch trees in Panama? Huh, interesting.
A hug to our Panamanian brothers! ¡Saludos de Costa Rica!

Went to Panama on my honeymoon and absolutely loved it!! Beautiful people inside and out. Oh, and the food is BOMB!
Kind of amazing how you glossed over Rubén Blades so quickly, he's a really big cultural icon in latin america, and you didn't even mention he was minister of Culture for a time in the 2000's
Oh my God, the Harpy Eagle looks so cool! I'd take that as my national animal any day!
Greetings from Germany, which has an arguably less cool national eagle.

Doood I'm from the Canary Islands and I swear to God half of those dishes are traditionally eaten here too!
Yess because were caribean
Food stuff will remain a mystery since most argue that Spain had cultural appropiation of their dishes.
Like cevice is claimed by Perú , but Spain says had it first... Arroz con Leche by Puerto Rico and Spanish says theirs, etc... // Fun Fact: Chile tries to appropiate everything from Perú (food, drinks), only to piss them off.
So many Canarians immigrated to Panama and Belize in the past.

I wish there had been space to talk about the valuable influence and contributions the Asian, especially Chinese and Indian, Arab and Eastern European communities have made to what Panama is today.
Woow, finally Panama! Thank you for this.
Fun video highlighting Panama! When my friends and I were in college in the States our friends DID call us the Panamaniacs! A few things just fyi for those interested: 1- Plaza de Francia is in Casco Viejo, not on the causeway. 2- The highest tolls paid by ships today, post-Panama Canal expansion, are actually closer to a million dollars…that $300k figure is very outdated. 3- It’s tagua nut, not tauga nut. Super fun video, gracias!
