Death Trap, small and inconveniently out of the way. The problem with underground bases is they don’t provide a means of sniping enemies who threaten the perimeter. A simple 8x8 cobblestone tower, 3 high, with the first floor at block height of 4. Scaffolding floors around the whole outer perimeter. Electric fence around the base. That is assuming you can’t just take over a bank or church. Build up high and away from zeds. Scaffolding floor for easy sniping the perimeter. Horde base is always separate.
i dont agree with this as a starter base. because it has just one entrance/exit... but a little later in the game when you have better tools this could be a nice start for an undergroundbase.

This would make a great underground crafting base with a lower entrance to where you could do some mining.
