I have one Coney Island at Lafayette then I go nextdoor to American for the second. Done it that way since I was a teenager. I'm 71 now. 2023.

If you're dining in I like the authentic old school 1930's vibe of Lafayette. American expanded and feels a little commercialized. I'll eat either one and not complain. As for preference - I've lived in Detroit for 57 years. I like Duley's on Vernor Ave in mine (and Jack White's) old SW Detroit neighborhood.

We've been saving the Duley's review for a big time episode, working on some special guests.

Lafayette used to use Winter's Sausage dogs, but now both Lafayette and American use Dearborn dogs. And they both get their buns from the Metropolitan Baking Company. The chili is different. The onions are different. But the dog and bun? Same.

Same vendor for the hot dog but each made to a different recipe. Incorrect to say they use the “same” hot dog

So Alec, go to Lafayette, and get a coney with no mustard, then go next door, and get some mustard. Sounds like a perfect coney for you.

Alec.. buddy.. youre talking exactly backward. American has the superior snap, and is way too sweet. Lafayette has the better flavors, and superior onions. Really, the only thing is put the snap into the Lafayette dog and you got an unbeatable coney. Game recognize game, and you lookin pretty unfamiliar.

It's about even. I think it depends which one was the first you tasted.

Boo this man. Nathan's dogs are like chewing on foam rubber weatherstipping from old lead painted windows. Which you must have done to think Nathan's are better than a Dearborn or the G.O.A.T: Koegels Viennas.
