Yes, had them for over 18 years had every year twice pups had 6 ladies, and competed with them with hunting (NIMROD) and exhibitions. They are the best mix of gentle companion house dog good with children and a working dog. However, the approach to teach them is a lot different you cannot be harsh with them. You train them like it's a game if something does not go well you do not reward them with your voice or a treat. There is also a good comity in the Netherlands that looks over the breeding, so you may not breed with Drents when they have epilepsy or eye or other diseases. If you buy one make sure they have what we call a stand boom (Family three). Also, between families can be a lot of difference in some kennels they are more focused on hunting and other more on family always look at the father and mother dog and let the breeder choice the pup for you, he can see already some of its personality and if its suits you and your situation.
We are owners of the Drentsche Parijs Hond for over 20 years and they are the sweetest family dog I know. They realy like to work for the boss and must be trained with a soft hand. It is a very intelligent dog and they a mental challange and long walks. I have done various trainings from obidiance to hunting and this is great fun for both. Every morning, I feel very lucky, to receive my dogs greetings.
Is the Drentse Patrijshond your favourite dog breed?
