I admit I was not expecting such a high-pitched bark from such a big cuddly dog.

We had a huge German Shepherd Dog who emitted noise from somewhere deep in her chest... Big deep rumbling thunder barks. She also had a very high squeaky ear bleeding bark that let you know it was time for an outside break (to wee or pooh) ... It made you move quickly......
I jumped when he barked lol. Was not expecting him to be that loud.
That slowmo blow dry to the face, that is one photogenic doggo. People dream of that perfect hair in the wind moment and this dog nailed it, bravo.

Similar to how some leonbergers are
It's like a mix of a German shepherd coat and a bit of brindle marked Akita. So being an Akita mix I think that is from that parent.

My God, "majestic" is the perfect adjective for him. Once you fixed up his coat, it really shows off the amazing color pattern he has on his back and sides. And he's got to be one of the sweetest and friendliest Akita mixes ever.

I respect it so much that Vanessa is always honest about how each dog reacts to the happy hoodie, instead of trying to make it seem that every dog is super comfortable wearing it.

Akitas seem to really love the hair dryer 😂 he was such a sweet boy!
The air in his face at 2:45, reminded me of our Shetland Sheepdog from years ago. He always faced into the dryer breeze or wind and was happy as could be.

She's had one or two akitas that absolutely did not.
@bout3fiddy: as a proud Akita owner for more than 30 years, I can confirm that. The son of my first one enjoyed it even so much, I now and then had to give him a soft push because otherwise he would fall asleep standing 😊

That was one big, beautiful dog. I'll take 6. 😊 He was such a laid back, chilled boy. Love the classic Shepard head tilt at the end and the glamour dyer shot.

I have a Chow-Shepherd mix that is 11 years old and 92 lbs. I got him from a shelter at 8 months. He just went to the groomers yesterday. He's a big fluffy dog and sheds lots of hair. He just loves people and will let the groomers handle him without being a problem. He's good at the vets office too. Everyone loves him. lol.
Good thing. Met a few of both breeds that were not so pleasant.
@flatdaddio That’s great! I’m sure that vet techs and groomers deal with plenty of dogs (other animals, too) that they tolerate but don’t really want to deal with again. It seems that you got a great dog! 🐶

I've never really owned a dog or cat or...any pet in my life before, but I've always wanted to. Now that my sister (whom I share a house with) is thinking about getting us a dog, this channel has armed me with a LOT of knowledge about various breeds and temperaments and what owning them would entail. I found this channel many many months ago while on a pet video rabbit hole, and I'm glad I stuck around. Thank you Girl With the Dogs. Sharing your vast knowledge of these wonderful critters is really gonna help this potential first time dog owner!
Update: man I've never had so many well wishes on a comment I made before! Thanks! I just learned not long after making this comment that we're getting a golden doodle some time next year. I'm really hyped!
Good Luck. For a first dog I would recommend a lab or retriever or even a Shepherd, or a smaller dog. Don't do what my sister did and get Pit for her first dog. Pit Bulls are great if you know what you're doing, but is probably not the best starter dog. Most shelters will let you play with the dogs. I recommend taking a day off and just playing with the dogs and then think about it and come back. I think a spent parts of 3 days at the shelter and probably about 10 hours before I made a decision last time. The problem isn't picking out a dog, you'll want to adopt them all, but you want to think about it logically with you're own situation. That's hard to do with all doggies staring at you wanting to go home with you.
As a dog rehabber and former shelter manager, I think it's a really good idea to meet the dogs and go by your meeting, rather than breed! Sure *most* shepherds are anxious, and *most* Akitas are aloof, and *most* foxhounds are friendly and loud and mind their own business, and *most* pit bulls are high-energy lovebugs, and *most* labs are laid-back and chill, but I know plenty of labs who are nippy, and plenty of pit bulls who don't want to get off the couch, and plenty of shepherds who just want to snuggle. Someone mentioned that they recommend broadly a shepherd as a first dog, and as a dog person I think that's as insane as getting a husky for your first dog, but what it comes down to is whether the dog is the right dog *FOR YOU*, and you figure that out by meeting them! That's also the reason I recommend dogs over at *least* 8 months old to first time adopters, since you have a way better sense of their personality and the kind of companion they'll be than if you get an 8-week-old puppy who's just learning not to eat his siblings' poop.
Please try to rescue a dog . And not buy. So many need to get good homes. Good luck! Tell your sister to take her time and do the research.
Before picking any breed, think about your environment (do you have a big backyard or apartment) and your time that you have. Will the animal be alone most of the day while youre at work or someone living with you. Get a dog not because you like how they look, but get one that fits YOUR lifestyle. Small dogs like a terrier mix or yorkie mix are great starter dogs and wonderful companions. So easy to keep clean and take with you for rides or to get someone to dogsit for you if you have to go away. The bigger and more hair the dog has, the more care they will need. Ive only gotten free pets from local people who are giving them away. They are priceless to me I cant imagine my life without them. Adopt dont shop!!

What a handsome boy, absolutely gorgeous looking dog. The double layer does cause some 'clogging', but you're right regular brushing out does help. Our Pyrenean has the same type of fur. When we brush one dog, some of the 7 other dogs queue up wanting a brush, but I think it is just for attention 😂. Thank you for posting.

What a glorious dog! Visually stunning and well-behaved; he may be a mix, but this time it seems he has all the positive qualities of the breeds behind him and none of the bad. This was wonderful to watch. He was so shaggy when he came in, and his coat after looked like silk. Great groom with a mostly compliant dog. Interesting to me was you do the feet the same way I do my tiny Poms!

I find podcasts really help with that too. I listen to sciguys a lot and when I used to have problems sleeping I'd put on one of their podcasts which I wasn't necessarily interested in actually listening to in full, but that could keep my mind occupied while I fell asleep.
