I love that while Jeanine was finding colorful taper candles, Laura was finding brass candlestick holders. 🥰 I also buy broken angels. There is something sweet about them. Aren’t we all a little broken ? 😇

Hi Jeanine (sorry if I misspelled your name), I am done with estate sales as well but for a different reason. Years ago my mother and I would go to estate sales all the time. It was our fun time together. We were able to score lots of nice things when we first moved in to our new home. We had lived in an appartment before for years and didn't have many things. So as years went on, my mother was diagnosed with dementia alzheimer's so we almost never went because of her condition. Finally one day I saw a listing for a sale that had two gorgeous lamps that I thought she would love. I showed them to her and she absolutely wanted to go to the sale! The day arrived and we drove 30 minutes to get there. Then we spent another 30 or so minutes in line outside waiting (the weather was very nice that day). Eventually they opened up and the company running the sale was counting people coming in . The lady got to number 10 (it was my mother) and they wouldn't let me in with her! So I start telling the lady, hey my mother has this condition...(so on and so forth), she needs my help. The lady absolutely refused to let me in with her to help my mother!! As we were arguing, My mother suddenly grabbed my hand and had seriously like a death grip on me saying "no I need her, im not leaving her!!! and mom started crying! After traumatizing my mother, the woman had the audacity to say "well then you both stay outside and let someone else in, then when 2 people come out you can go in."😡😡😡
I said no! We were here first!
Finally the woman's coworker convinced her to let us both in. Then after all that, the lamps we had wanted to get were sold while we were both trying to get in.😔 I told my mom, no more! We're done. The mental health of both of us is too important.
So we just go to yard sales and thrift stores for fun anymore. It's a shame. 😔

It's gotten pretty bad here in California, my sister and I were at an estate sale and I was reaching for a set of pyrex bowls and a man just like reached right over me and pushed me out of the way and grabbed them and my sister saw and she screamed and scared the crap out of her. You know it's not fun anymore. People need to be nice and have respect and just stop taking the fun out of it! Be careful ladies.

I so agree about the cutthroat stuff. Our Goodwill has senior discount day on Wednesdays. There are some people, like me, who come every Wed. but are so RUDE. I've been pushed, cut in front of, given the evil eye and I even saw one of these ladies take a toy dinosaur (that was really not worth anything) out of the hands of an old lady. That day, I lost it. I told the manager to please DO SOMETHING about those particular ladies. Of course, they didn't. So, when I see them, I go look at something else. My peace just ain't worth losing over something at Goodwill.

At the good estate sales around here, people will start lining up at 2:00-3:00 AM for a sale that opens at 9:00 AM! Some people having the sales are having to hire security because of that. I am not going to get up that early to find high prices on the things that I want. I'm also not willing to fight over things, so I just go later to the sale if I go at all. I don't need any of that stuff that badly. If I really want something, I'll find it online at eBay. Otherwise, I stick with Goodwill and other thrift stores to find things for my booth. I do have a friend that has garage/estate sales for people and she will call me to come first to look. I really appreciate that!!

I just found your channel yesterday and I am really enjoying your videos. I am in Ohio and yes I feel that estate sales are cut throat here as well. For example I went to an estate sale a month ago and the announce had posted NO EARLY BIRDS. I arrived about 30 minutes early because I didn't know where it was and wanted to make sure I got there on time. So I knew I would just wait in the car until it opened. After sitting 15 minutes I notice a guy came out of the house with his arms full of items! I spoke to the guy and said I didn't know they opened early since it said no early birds and he told me well we are friends of the family. I decided I was going to ask if it was ok to go in, I was 15 minutes early by then. The woman said yes it was fine and another woman followed me in. I asked the seller where the room was with the Christmas items and as she was telling me the woman behind me barges right in front of me and went into the room quickly. So I was a bit miffed by that. I went into the room and I decided I better act fast and get what I an and put it in my bag. So I pulled some items and put them into my bag. The room was small and boxes of items were everywhere. So I pulled a box out and I was bending down going through the ornaments and finding the knee hugging elves and putting them in my bag. Then that woman that cut in front of me bends down and grabs a green knee hugging elf out of my hand!!!! She said I don't have this color and you found all those other ones and she took it from me!!! I was shocked!!! I'm 58 years old and I didn't want to say anything or start a fight in this crazy society we live in! But let me tell you had that been done to me when I was in my 20's or 30's I would have told that woman exactly what was on my mind and took it back from her! I never backed down from anything when I was younger, I always stood my ground. lol

The way people act nowadays at Estate Sales and the pricing is why I don’t go to stuff like that. I don’t even really do church sales or the Bins because people are A-Holes these days! It is sad because I grew up going to garage sales, flea markets and church sales with my Mom and Great Grandmom. I literally hate that this is how it is now, all the fun has been taken out of it. BTW you are so lucky to have snow ❄️ we have had ZERO this year 😢

Estate sales are cut throat everywhere now. I have gotten where I rarely go early now unless it is something for my personal collection. Otherwise I wait until the discount day and shop then. Yes, I miss out on items I can resell but so much less stress. Quite often people will miss the littles and I love to sell and ship littles, lol. I am looking forward to you going trash picking as it is fun to see what you find. Here in Colorado you can only throw out bulk once a year in the spring. I am looking forward to hopefully finding me some more large size pots for my garden this year. I just love the whole concept of reusing items.

So I am almost 60 and went to my first estate sale ever recently. I don't resell or collect, I'm just curious and like to find good deals on things I can use. I love to browse estate sale listings online. I saw a sale with loads of big style furnishings, tons of books, etc. And there were LOTS of nicely framed poster prints, including shirtless David Hasselhoff and shirtless Eric Estrada, that I really wanted, just for the kitsch factor. I was #19. I didn't bring a bag. I did see a local TH-camr/reseller and his wife, who were one of the first inside. They made a killing on all the books they got. But The Hoff was $38, too much for kitschy fun. But I did bring home two new boxes of Earl Grey tea. So I went back on the third day/half off day and snatched them up. I went to my 29 year old daughter's place of work with her extra car keys and gently placed The Hoff face up in the back of her hatchback. It took her two days to notice him! Fortunately, I don't seem to get annoyed or anxious, probably because I'm not really looking for loads of stuff. But my kids definitely wouldn't go to one. Such great finds at your sale!

Keep the tapering candles in the freezer until you want to use them. They will burn slower.
If you have candle wax melted in or on a container, stick them in the freezer over night or longer and the wax will chip or break off.
EXTREMELY IMPORTANT !!! ONLY USE PAPER BAGS!!!
Oh yeah, if you candle wax spilled on cloth, take a couple paper bags put one flattened bag on an ironing board put the cloth with the wax on the paper bag. Then put a second paper bag on top of the cloth with the wax on it.
Be sure your iron's on high iron the top paper bag moving the bag and cloth around until all of the wax that was on the cloth is no longer on the cloth.

It’s wild! 90% of the people who go early in our area are resellers who have been doing estate sales decades longer than we have. I think there’s just a general uptick in exposure to thrift stores, estate sales etc on all social media platforms that makes these types of sales more accessible to more people… for better or for worse. It’s the reason we’ve started going only in the past few years :) thanks for watching!!

I live in Florida (Space Coast), haven't been to any sales in awhile. I prefer the antique malls, charity and small thrift stores. I'm not a reseller, have been trying to downsize the last few years actually. After losing my parents and father-in-law within 5 years and having to go through their things I realized I can't keep it all for my kids and family to deal with. But I love to look, and can't deal with ppl acting rude. It's hard these days to see the prices going through the roof, so many great memories of thrifting with my mom before it was the "thing" to do. Not like it used to be, basically like everything anymore.🤷‍♀️
I'm looking forward to your curb pick ups. Nice and calm. (Unless your looking for a pyrex lid😉).

Oh my gosh I totally understand what you both mean! It’s definitely very cut throat here in CA. For really great finds you have to be there early to sign up. And people push, shove and run and grab anything they see. I just went to an estate sale on Saturday and oh gosh…I was over it. But I did find the items that I wanted. It’s definitely a tough world!

Sounds like CA is similar to the NY NJ area. It just isn’t fun when you feel like you’re in a race to the finish line. Happy to hear that you were able to still find items ❤️❤️

I know just how you feel,I use to love all sales, estate, rummage and yard .it's all cut throat, people grabbing things out of your hands, you have to go much earlier then the actual sale just to have a chance.Im not a reseller so I go after the crowd and sometimes not at all.I started with my mom over 50 years ago ,she is no longer here so it's not that much fun anymore.Just take a step back and relax don't let it bother you,it will get better.😊

Here in Alabama people will be in line 2 hours before the sale begins. First hour everything is gone and most items are priced at eBay amounts. Very little digger sales in my area.

LI NY… I’m only just learning.. I went in and wanted all the popcorn decorations.. I took them and they were bulky so a lady running the sale said she was in charge of that room and to leave a pile by her.. well I went to look in the rest of the house and saw someone upstairs carrying ALL OF MY STUFF!.. I went back downstairs and all she had to say was I’m sorry!!!.. I got some back but not the 2 I mainly went for they were sold and GONE!! I was so angry.. lesson learned!!!! Never leave your stuff with anyone!!

Yes! Used to be so fun few years ago. Not anymore. Now if I'm number 8, 30 people are ahead of me. How is that. The items I'm interested in are usually gone by the time I get in the door. I don't get numbers anymore, no point. I just go after all the greedy grabbers get in the door. Just don't stress. Prices are very high and I just decided to look for the little things the "frenzy" people overlooked. But I just don't do the estate sales as much anymore. Too much shady stuff going on.

Sometimes I prefer to go later in the sale. I can hang with the best of them but who needs the stress. I find people tend to get aggressive at the GW bins at times too. I still find all sorts of good stuff & don’t have to knock someone down to get it.

I am also a reseller, but it's not my main job. I like to go to estate sales on the sale day unless there is something specific I want. It can be so competitive in the mornings and usually I don't feel like it's worth the rush for me. I feel if you have a good eye, you can still get good things in the sale day and the profit will be better. It comes down to many factors though, like what your resell outlet is (brick and mortar vs online) and what you specialize in if anything, and where you sell and buy, and the price range of your customer. Collecting is also different because price considerations are different than for resell. Basically start going a bit later until you see something you have to have that is worth the rush and waking up early. And remember in those digger sales going later can be good because things get uncovered as people buy and move things around. Good stuff gets missed all the time.

I used to do estate sales in New Orleans often, until I saw firsthand how jerky resellers/dealers can be. They're pushy, grabby, and rude. Now I'll do it occasionally, and only later in the day or on the last day. The last one I went to on the 1st day was ridiculous. People literally ran in and shoved people out of their way to get at stuff. No thanks. I'm done. I don't need anything that badly that I have to ruin someone else's day to get it.

Definitely cut throat here in Houston. If you want something good you need to be there at least 2 hours before. We don’t have the sign up sheets here anymore. Years ago we did. But it’s the same here. Can understand not wanting to deal with the snatch and grab people. But I enjoy it when y’all do go to the sales. Y’all find some great stuff.

That first estate sale in Randolph has been held MANY times. I went to one last year where it was run by an estate sale company (with the family in the house overseeing it as well) and I've seen it advertised with different names two other times. Amazing to see that their high prices were still on the same items that have been there since last fall! Including those Star Wars, Smurfs and the Strawberry Shortcake items. The second estate sale company is notorious for some rough/cutthroat sales...a guy fell through the ceiling in one of theirs I was at!!!

Good to know I'm not the only collector to buy damaged items. A few weeks ago I scored a grail item, Miss Priss cookie jar, at an estate sale. They had he marked at 130 but he accepted my offer of 50 because she did have damage. Also scored the Miss Priss jam jar without the lid or spoon for 15.
I enjoy your videos and whatnot sales. Keep on finding cool stuff.

Great video, awesome vintage finds! I love the spun cotton duck/chick heads and adorable flocked duckies! I'm not a hard-core, early morning estate-sale shopper. I might be if I were more invested in reselling. I'd rather arrive an hour or two after the sale starts, or even go the second day. If I had to deal with frantic, grabby shoppers I think that would make it too stressful and not fun anymore.

Love your haul! You can form a wing on your Angel planter with Millie putt epoxy, or air dry clay. There’s TH-cam video on repairing or building up broken ceramic pieces. I think the garage sales, yard sales, estate sales, goodwill, are the sign of the times people want the max dollars for their items. Even thrift stores now! Everything is expensive now with people’s sales, it takes the fun out now. I stopped now, because it’s been that way for me , I’ve noticed, for a year now, so I’ve basically quit going to them. Good luck if you can still find deals & thanks for sharing! Try rummage sales! Last best hope for cheap prices! Enjoyed see what you got!

Estate sales give me anxiety. The double edge sword is reselling became so popular. Especially during covid for those who lost jobs, etc. So videos like this which I love, are one reason people love reselling. Rge videos are awesome and informative but before social media, resellers were unknown and the process was literally frowned upon. I remember my brother thrifting and selling in the 90s, 00s. He found amazing things at garage sales for nothing. Bit like you said, people research their stuff to get ebay prices.

I applaud you for speaking the truth about estate sales but remember the old saying not to let bad apple spoil the whole bunch 😉. I live in a small town in Virginia with alot of antiques and vintage so my feeling is there is plenty to go around without knocking down gramma in the process. Hang in there and it's almost yard sale season so go find treasures there. I will still watch your fun videos.
