🔋 Diving on Battery Power 😱 testing BLU3 Nemo at Blue Heron Bridge Snorkeling Trail

  • In this video I used the Nemo by ‪@diveblu3‬ to dive at the Blue Heron Bridge Snorkel Trail in Riviera Beach Florida. Normally at the Blue Heron Bridge Snorkel Trail (Phil Foster park) I would be snorkeling, freediving or Scuba Diving, but today I have the BLU3 Nemo. The BLU3 Nemo is a battery powered hookah diving system, it uses a rechargeable battery to allow you to dive for 60 - 90 minutes at 10 feet deep. The Nemo by BLU3 is lightweight and stores compact into a backpack, it is easy to travel with and is airline friendly so it is perfect to take traveling to tropical destinations!
    The Nemo by BLU3 is not really a replacement for scuba diving or freediving since it only can be used down to 10 feet deep, but is an awesome for shallow snorkel locations or shallow dive locations. It is so mush easier to carry and travel with than a Scuba tank and scuba diving equipment. I was very impressed by how easy the Nemo was to setup and use and how long the battery lasted while I was diving.
    The Nemo has a 10 foot hose and has the innovative "Smart Reg" at the end for breathing, the Smart Reg turns the Nemo air pump on and off when you inhale. Since the Nemo only pumps when you need the air it is able to last incredibly long while you are out diving.
    While I was diving at the Blue Heron Bridge I saw eels, crabs, angelfish, grouper, snapper, tang and many other tropical fish. I also saw a sunken boat and beautiful coral reefs. It was an awesome dive at the Snorkeling trail.
    If you have not already checkout the Nemo by BLU3 at lddy.no/q61a
    If you want to start Nemo Diving BLU3 requires you to take their free online training course prior to using the Nemo in the water, the course is very informative and will teach you the specifics of using the Nemo and will teach you the basics of diving.
    The company BLU3 is based in the USA in Florida the Dive capital of the world and is a part of the larger company Brownies Marine Group who is well known for the third lung hookah diving system.

      Yeah the nemo is awesome! As long as your ok with only going ten feet deep, which is perfect for most snorkel spots anyway. Nemo is the halfway between snorkeling and scuba without the intimidation of getting scuba certified. I hope your son enjoys it, my son is on the spectrum as well and freediving is one of the activities we can really connect on together. I hope he enjoys, make sure to practice in the pool and get comfortable with it so you know how to use it safely. You can use my link to buy it, it lets Nemo know you heard about them through this vid. lddy.no/q61a

    One thing that concerns me about these type of systems is the noise factor. How noisy are they when running, as compressors are generally a bit loud when pumping? Apart from that, I love this idea! Safety first though, a good understanding of scuba principles is a must in my opinion if one is going to use these systems.
    Good video man!

    I thought in the beginning of the Video you said the tube was 15 feet long. is it 15 feet long and with the attachments, you only reach about 10 feet down? What is the limit of diving without a certification?

  • @infunkytown
    @infunkytown 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have no experience diving, only starter snorkeling this summer. Would one of those smaller 1 L backup tanks be a good idea to carry along, if the unit fails for whatever reason? So you would have to ascend without having to stress?
    I realize a scuba course is highly recommended before using something like this.

    • @JoeOceanside
      @JoeOceanside  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question Infunkytown. For the Nemo, I do not carry a spare air tank. If the Nemo failed I think it would take longer for me to pull out the spare air and put it in my mouth than it would to simply ascend to the surface. You would definitely want to keep a snorkel with you though, if the unit failed and you had to swim back on the surface you would definitely want a snorkel. Nemo has a short training course for you to use it safely. Scuba training would be great too

    I've had my eye on the Blu3 Nemo for a few months. I'm waiting to see how much their new model, with 15 feet range, costs. I just don't feel 10 feet is deep enough, for photographing octopuses, catching lobsters, etc.
    Would be interested to see how it works on a beach dive, since I snorkel so many point breaks. How would it work if a swell is running?

    • @JoeOceanside
      @JoeOceanside  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, if the reef is more than 12 foot deep I would say it is a no go for the Nemo. Also I don't know how rough waves it would handle. It has a air intake tube which is about 18" tall and a splash cover on the top so it can handle some chop but I would not want it to take a roller LOL

If it dies the air you're breathing is still under pressure so the risk of lung over expansion for someone who isn't trained to do a CESA, and I would worry about a diesel powered boat coming by and sucking in some of that exhaust which is way worse for you underwater.

    • @bradwelch7425

      Hello Martin, I have owned a Nemo for some time now and I do recommend doing a full scuba course before using one. I have had this cut out on me several times only because I pushed it to it's limit. After an hour or so you can start to feel the air is harder to inhale which tells me to head into shallower water for an easy ascent. When it cuts out, it cuts out, no air so you need to be mindful that when this happens you don't panic and ascend. Also if a Diesel should be that close the skipper/captain needs his arse kicked as you are the captain of the ship/vessel you should be trained and recongnise the dive flag and stay a minimum of at least 100 metres (Australia) not sure about the States. I have had people in boats actually grab the unit thinking it was a floaty toy heading down river so I spray painted "diver below" on either side for the "stupid" ppl. I have found heaps of stuff at the bottom of the Briney and had real fun with it.
      Great little unit, portable, lightweight, interchangable batteries etc. thumbs up.
      Cheers
      Brad

    • @JoeOceanside
      @JoeOceanside  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They require you to do a training class before using it, it really is all basic for anyone with a dive cert. You can feel the airflow getting weaker before it completely fails, and anyway an emergency ascent from 10 feet is not too dangerous for someone with diving experience. But its not for everyone! Thanks for watching!

      @@JoeOceanside My concern Joe, is people who think they can use it but panic in a situation.
      It is only an on-line course but as you say it is only 10ft. I got 2 hrs the other day and almost got divorced as I said I will only be 1.5hrs, after a while you can control your breathing to get longer periods of down time. Only downside is that it is bloody noisy but doesn't seem to scare the sealife away. I think if you purchase just be mindful of it;s and your limitations and I don't think to many will have any problems.
