    Well I'd buy the SMB / Spool, but everything else I'd pass on. $100 shears vs a $20 line cutter. BCD with lots of pockets - Why? Full face mask - So expensive and uses so much gas. Multi Function Dive computer / Fitness watch - Great idea, but Garmin already crushes that market. Why use a copy cat? Spare air? REALLY? REALLY?

      If your VC is 4L, you'd basically have 5 breaths at 30m.
      Around 12 breaths /min is considered normal.
      So if somethings goes wrong & multitasking. You might have 15-20 seconds.
      Awesome product!!

    Okay, I'm gonna have to say no to the shears.
    A) It's a knockoff of Leatherman's Raptor shears, you can see on the strap cutter a rectangular cut-out intended as a medical oxygen tank wrench.
    B) 420HC steel may be corrosion resistant, but I know from experience these folding shears have too many nooks and crannies to stop rust from eventually forming in places you can't reach without pulling it apart. A cheap pair of medical shears, trilobite cutters and dive knives are lower maintenance.
    C) not a bottle opener, the device comes with a strap cutter (very useful in specific situations) or ring cutter (rarely used)
    I have had my Raptor shears for over 5 years now (2 years working in coastal settings), and while I still carry it there is no way I would ever bring it into the water with me. Save your money for simple but proven dive-cutting tools

    Those "shears" are also known as trauma shears. It's literally the same shears I've used for eight years in the ER. They are called raptor trauma shears, never work a shift without them. Never thought about taking them diving. I have cut a lot of things with those.

    • @russellhogg3547
      @russellhogg3547 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely a knock off of the Leatherman Raptor. I bought a pair off AliExpress 6 months ago for diving. I bought a copy rather than the original because the original Raptor is made with high strength steel that rusts easily and I didn't want to spend the money on ruining the real thing. There are numerous TH-cam videos which show how well the Raptor can get through thick rope etc. Their weakness is in the spring button mechanism used to lock the scissors in place which eventually will rust due to water being trapped in the mechanism since it can't be easily drained out.

    the folding fins sound really interesting for travel etc. they won't be as good as other fins when it comes to propulsion, but the convenience of the small profile seems extremely useful though.
    I'm just not too sure about how durable they'd be though.
    I've seen some fins that have truly been through hell, they're often quite a few years old, but they still hold up. so I'd love to see a follow-up on the folding fins, like, how they kept up after like a year of regular use. if they survive that they should be more than durable enough to survive being your go-to travel fins :P

  • @bloodymarvelous4790
    @bloodymarvelous4790 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Not a fan of the shears. You need two hands to unfold them, and it tries to be too many things. Why would I need a bottle opener under water?
    Not a fan of the folding fins. Yeah they're light, but they look thin and fragile, and seem like they can collapse while in use. That makes them finicky.
    Not a fan of the GoMask. Get a mask that fits you properly, not one with a gimmick.
    Not a fan of the Atmos. It's cheaply made. You can get far better dive computers.
    Absolutely HATE the Spare Air. That thing will kill divers. DO NOT BUY.
    I love the spool and dSMB. It's a copy of the Apeks design, and those are the best you can get, so this is awesome stuff.

    The shears looks good but the fact that you need both hands to make them operational detracts. I have yet to find a set of shears, stainless steal or titanium coated, that doesn't need exessive maintenance to not rust and become useless. I have a HOG D3 and Zenith regulator and it is unbeatable for the price. The flat line for the DSMB is a POS, they don't last long and one day when your DSMB tugs on you a little it will let go. Hopefully you won't drop your reel and hopefully you'll retrieve the DSMB on the surface. Thanks for showing a correctly colored DSMB (not a yellow or black) but you neglected to mention how important the DSMB is for surface signaling to your boat.

    Spare air - useless product for any real emergency. If you're really concerned about having a failure then dive a twinset/sidemount, carry a stage bottle or do both. Spare air will get you nowhere if you have any kind of deco obligation, get entangled or breathe fast due to stress.

    • @JoeOceanside
      @JoeOceanside  ปีที่แล้ว

      Should I wear twinsets and stage a bottle when I'm diving 30 feet to catch lobsters? 🤣
      It's all about context, spare air will get you up from 30 safely. Also, if your dive buddy is 8 yards away from you when you have a failure, it would be really nice to have a spare air in your mouth while you are chasing him down and trying to get hold of his octo. I know, I know... your buddy should be closer but sometimes you get a little separated especially when you are both hunting lionfish or lobster. I understand your logic of "more air is better" so an additional 3 cu. ft. of spare air on my kit is better than not

    • @MultiHunterOne
      @MultiHunterOne ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JoeOceanside Well, I would because I'm poor and I have my regs configured for a twinset already so it would be way too much hassle to reconfigure them to something else 😆 If you want to use spare air, so be it, but you have to know the limitations and apart from shallow dives well within NDL it's not very useful. Why would you spend money on something that you can only use on some of your dives and then spend money again on a twinset that you can use for the rest of them. But that's you, not me, so I'll keep doing me and you do you :)

    Buying innovative 'cool' gear when your life literally depends is a bad idea. Half these products are cheap alternatives to well branded items and the other half are just unnecessary.
    - With knives, in case you weren't told - you cut away from your body, not towards yourself. This avoids cuts and stabs. If something as simple as a blade requires two hands, it's probably just a liability.
    - If you don't know what a DSMB is, you probably aren't a diver - it's not a cool product, it's an essential one.
    - Cheap Chinese dive computers < entry level established branded computers.
    - There's a special qualification for full face masks for a reason. If you insist in using one of these surface air supply things, get just the normal regulator. There is no way to clear a full face mask- if water gets in, you are blind and also can easily suck in water leading to extra panic.
    - The fordable fins are cool if they are also durable. Could be a god design if made well - I guess we'll find out!

      You can clear an OTS Guardian easily. Not sure about the other ones but that’s the one I had to qualify in as a commercial diver.

    At the risk of sounding like a”moss back”, I have been diving since 1973. I have been both an NASDS instructor and store owner. I don’t understand the “modern” divers who strap all sorts of gadgets and gizmos to themselves and their dive rig, yet wearing a snorkel is somehow cumbersome and uncomfortable. The folding fins would be great for kids or surface snorkelers. As another person commented, if you pulled this stuff out on a dive boat, you would practically be laughed off the boat. The fins might be ok on a drift dive or shore diving with zero current. Otherwise they are a joke. Not to be over critical, but please find another word besides REALLY. You overuse that and it is annoying. Reminds me of the girls constantly saying”like”. Good diving to you.

      I didn't hear all the "really"s until I read your comment and now I can't stop hearing them, and it's driving me nuts now too lmao

    I was told a long time ago that someone who keeps saying really or really,really that much is either trying to convince you of something that is not true or is somewhat illiterate and do not know how to properly express themselves. ..😊

    I'm sorry, but I'd really really love to see you travel with all that crap 😅 nice review, but if I'd see you on a dive boat, I'd be probably laughing with all the things you're bringing under. Marker? 1000% and this type as well. The ones inflated from below deflate upon surfacing.

    This guy uses "ReALlY rEaLlY" to describe every aspect of a product. All these "ReALlY rEaLlY" drove me mad so I started counting, and there are 166 "really" in this video. @JoeOceanside 's vocabulary is so poor, he probably thinks thesaurus is a dinosaur.
