I detailed at a porche, bmw, and vw dealership in florida. You should pick up the following and give it a try! *wool bonnet *coarse foam polishing pad *medium foam polishing pad *Fine foam polishing pad *backer pad with hook-and-loop attachment Research the corresponding wax/cutting compound/polish that should be used for each pad (dont mix up the pads and products). Also airblast the pads with air gun after each panel. If you get a paint matched touch up pen for deep deep scratches and do the stage pads and correct products with the pads you cant tell it was a touch up. Love the channel!
Gonna have to wet send the fenders with 2500 sandpaper to get the orange peel and the dirt marks to the best of what it can be and then go with with the compound with medium cutting pad and then finish with a polishing pad . I believe 3m gots a swirl removal and polish compound the 2 mixed in 1
Cut with a high speed buffer the heat that the high speed buffer and good compounds remove scratches but a scratch never goes away it's give the illusion to your eyes it's gone. Black is the hardest color to buff to look good and as soon as you wash it the swirls and scratches could come back. Also wet sand small sections at a time like about 3inch at a time no long sanding and use a wet sand block.
Just my little tip on the buffing prosses. I work at a car dealership and do rubbing/polishing and coating on a lot of cars we have in. I would recommend using less compound in the prosess, then you really working the compound in the paint. If you use to much compound, you end up just spinning the compound around and get less heat to the panels. Keep ut the good work!
It is looking much better already. You should hit the plastic trim parts near the mirrors, at the rear windows and on the hood with a heat gun, gently. It should revive the faded look.
Loving you videos my friend. Also like the fact that you admit you aren't a pro at everything and are always looking to improve and learn. Your work is very nice from what I can see.
I had a obsidian black pearl Subaru legacy. I loved the black color but man does it suck. Black shows every imperfection. Main reason I went with the classic blue WRX instead of a black one. Keep up the great videos.
I hope you keep this one. At least for a while anyways. Being a budget build and seeing how good it’s turning out is cool. Not to mention 04-07 are the best WRX/STI body styles hands down. Looking forward to the finish!
You have special glaze’s for dark colors. I use Poorboys Black Hole and works really great! Detailing a car is really satisfying to do. Definitely when you made alot of progress.
Make sure you are using microfiber cutting pads, can’t tell from the video if you are or not. Mf cutting pad and M105 or M110 for compound, then 205 with foam
You may be able to reduce the number of passes you do, by wet sanding prior to compound with 2k or 1k. Or even using a microfiber pad to make it more abrasive. But ask around first!
Props to you devin for learning as you go. If there is one piece of advise to make it less frustrating and quicker for you is to use a more aggressive cutting compound.
I would wet sand the whole car with 800 buff with heavy compound and move to lighter compound then glaze . I like your videos your a hard working guy great job
If you would turn the speed all the way up on the buffer and do 2 passes with a lot of pressure 2 medium pressure and 2 light pressure your process will go a lot quicker shouldn’t take but a hour to compound the whole thing 45 min to polish it cleanse the paint then do ceramic coating if that’s what your doing
But would defiantly recommend turning the speed on the buffer on the highest setting and try using a more abrasive pad to cut with it should take a bunch of passes less is more
And 25 passes ya that’s insane man those scratches will come out if you add more pressure and speed it up on high for real you will be amazed with how much faster and how many more scratches will Come out those on that rear driver door should all come out if your doing it right
with the deeper scratches and just heavily swirled paint, m105 + standard cutting pad probably isnt enough cut. esp if you're doing 20 passes on a panel with it. at that point youre inefficiently burning through clear coat. probably want to look for a stronger compound + pad setup. you're just a little bit limited with the materials that you have in my opinion. m105 and 205 with orange pads and finishing pads are enough to maintain a car once its been fully corrected but for the shape that the paint is in, i honestly dont think just the 105 + 205 combo will be enough.
Little advice: when you use compound you need to do 3 steps. Compound .heavy polishing and light polish. When you skip the middel step you wil get holo's. The mf pad in black here in the netherlands that is to finish so not ffor cutting the paint with compound.maybe look fot mf cutting pad.about the orange peal first mesure the paint thickness before you wetsand true the clearcoat
Looks like you are using the Griots Microfiber finishing pad for the correction? (I get why the links are different) But I am confused on Finishing Pad vs the Griots Correcting pad? Seems like by naming convention they would be opposite as utilized. Appreciate it.
Good correction for your first go looks loads better 🖤👌 professional detailer would prob want the car for a week to fully sort the paint/imperfections so don’t beat yourself up a good job takes time.
That's correct. I've done a lot of research for my own car, and the chemist who actually helped develop the base coat/clear coat paint on cars comes up with the same time frame. You can buff/polish after 24 hours, but should leave the paint to harden for 30 days min. before any wax or coating. This does not apply to new cars - there the paint is baked at much higher temperatures, so you can coat it on day 1.
I love the fact you do or try to do everything yourself. One thing I can tell you is that you are using to much product. The way it spatters around... Best of luck on the rest of the car!! It will be a giant transformation.
What grits are needed to wet sand clear coat I only have 1500 and 3k at the moment but I don’t want to introduce more scratches anybody want to chime in ? I also just painted my bumpers black
I am not an expert on this, but why are you guys doing so many pases? Instead or using a more aggressive compound/pad? Unless you are doing Compound>finishing>sealant>wax?
Great content on your channel , you seem like a busy Guy but I highly recommend watching Brian from Apex detail on wet sanding and paint correction He is one of the best on TH-cam..
I would’ve did a light wet sand with 3000 grit & then polished it out for sections with deep scratches
These are actually satisfying to watch , keep up the good work .
I've very impressed with you posting videos everyday. Thank you for all your hard work. Keep it up!

Wet sanding before compound would take out a ton of scratches. The polish it up and give it a good wax.

Maguire's black for black paint works , years ago i have black car and works excellent
It is looking much better already. You should hit the plastic trim parts near the mirrors, at the rear windows and on the hood with a heat gun, gently. It should revive the faded look.
2000 grit wet sand for the dirt in the hood then a more abrasive pad to buff and polish. Will look like a sheet of glass

Absolute dream car! I hope i can own a STI like this one day
Hope you've gotten to experience your dream car! I was there before and it was the greatest feeling driving off the lot! :)
Make sure you are using microfiber cutting pads, can’t tell from the video if you are or not. Mf cutting pad and M105 or M110 for compound, then 205 with foam
Honestly love the journey for this Subaru. Keep up the amazing content I learn something from you every video.

So many hours spent on detailing but the after is so satisfying.
Devin you can try to use 2000 da pad and sand down panel than 3000 and buff.
Thats what I doing
Wow you've done a great job hard correcting black paint
I would wet sand the whole car with 800 buff with heavy compound and move to lighter compound then glaze . I like your videos your a hard working guy great job
Car looks better and better each day 🙌🏼

Love all your videos great content keep up the good work. Greetings from Barbados 🇧🇧
It might just be quicker repainting it but the detail is coming out nice!
Even with that little bit of work. The STI paint is LOOKING 👌🏻😎.
Good work on the polish, turned out great, good technique used devin
The paint definitely improved a lot when polished, but it is not totally perfect as it is oem paint with deep blemishes. but it look much better
Absolutely love this channel. My favorite TH-camr easy. Keep up the fantastic content my man much love ❤️👍🏼

This is one of the best sti's on TH-cam hands down 😲
Can’t wait tell you get them red seats out! Car will look so much better!!! 😄😄
Definitely caught a buzz off those claws by 16:00
It’s is a 5 step wool,foam,da,seal b and wax
A lot of work, but paid off 👌 It's not a new car, but makes a difference 👍
Gives me a little bit a hope for my paint🙏🏼 I have an 07 same color obsidian black pearl and my paint is in similar condition. Looks so rough
Love all these car videos
I wish you paint the hall car
You did good job on painting
You should try and build a slammed static sti and see everyone’s reaction

Those shots starting at 02.50 are amazing. New camera?
Also I think your car would look so much better with Gold wheels.
Yes like all other Subaru’s huh
I really like Apex Details channel. He is a master
You plan on putting a Subaru logo badge for the front bumper?
Is that your new camera ? Whoa if it is the quality is Crazy !!!!!
Looks like you are using the Griots Microfiber finishing pad for the correction? (I get why the links are different) But I am confused on Finishing Pad vs the Griots Correcting pad? Seems like by naming convention they would be opposite as utilized. Appreciate it.

Def a weeks worth of work for a proper correction, no doubt 😁
Man that is looking gorgeous, great job dude, btw powder coat your wheels gloss black 😉
Never stop being creative
Devin works fast af.
SO AMAZING TO WATCH THIS VIDEO
STI’s lookin minty
I was taught 30 days for naturally cured clear before any wax/ceramic coating can be applied

Should of did a full wet sand of the car with 2500 or 3000 then cut and buff/ polish
neede thus video perfect timing
love the B-Roll!!
I see a lot of TH-cam’s using foam canons, any reason you don’t use one? Please respond 🙏🏽
Well done sir, always enjoy seeing your videos! Aprox how long did it take you to do one door?
What Camera You Use Devin? The Quiality Its Just Impressive Compared To Other "More Famous" TH-camrs
Any particular reason u dont have a lift in you’re shop?
ya right? He mentioned he plans on moving for a bigger shop so no point now I guess.🤷♀️
if you want to knock down the orange peel 1000 grit wet sand paper and stay off the edges.
Get the taillights buffed!
Great content as always fam!!!!!!
You need that new grille! What's it at?
Davin or anyone Know where to get the door STI decals. I have been trying to find them I am getting ready to repaint my 04 STI. Please and thank you!
My dream toy
I did the same thing on my 08, its just not the same car. Best 300$ invested
Pro tip if you see the paint in horrible condition, it will be faster and safer to sand it down. Why you’ll risk burning threw the paint.
DEVIN Please tell me how I can get your FRS headlights and do they work with 2020 BRZ? I need them in my life. Keep working hard man!
Matt Noszlopy He has videos of him building them...just search his FRS videos you'll find it
What’s the Audio that played while he was pressure washing
What grits are needed to wet sand clear coat I only have 1500 and 3k at the moment but I don’t want to introduce more scratches anybody want to chime in ? I also just painted my bumpers black
The video I was waiting for
Way better ☮️
Subaru’s have VERY soft paint, hope you don’t end up chasing your own tail for going to agressive right away. Love the video dude
Cut with the rotary, finish with the DA be way faster
Good job brother
Love it!! Lookin KILLER 💯🔥👊🏻
Keep up the grind, it's appreciated 😁

Devin came a looong way..
Hey davin take your frs to running
Next.....rear diffuser, change the small one for a longer one👍my God were the last owners cleaning it with a wire brush?😳🤣🤣
it takes a long time detailing a car especially doing color correcting the paint since you have so many steps.
We LOVE to see it
I need to do this....
Sad that all his evo videos get 2x the views than all the others, great videos just sad ppl don’t keep up daily
do I hear a wrap job incoming???
fabric paint the seats blue.
The car looks like a Mexican Wrestler with the yellow tape! 👍
