Germany has the third largest music market in the world and of course also produces English-language songs. There are German country songs, or German reggae, pop and rap, but also traditional German "Schlager" or folk music and of course classical music/operas. Small Germany (compared to the size and population of India) is very, very diverse. The north is completely different from the south, the west is different from the east, the German language has 16 major dialect groups and 100s of subgroups. And English is the first foreign language taught in school, followed by French, Latin and Spanish.

@@TheLoudBro It also has something to do with the language connection, otherwise you would hear a lot more French songs in Germany. After all, the French are our neighbors, but the language barrier is too big. You could take India and China as an example, they are neighbors but the languages are not related to each other. I think there are few Chinese songs in the charts in India and vice versa. But that's just a guess, I don't know much about Indian and Chinese languages.
Eurodance was massive in Germany. So was techno. A lot of techno and eurodance was written, produced and published in Germany. Often times, however, American or British singers would fly to Germany to get their songs produced.
He is of course Swiss, only the genre was German (Eurodance), and his biggest successes were in Germany, I think that is the reason why he is often portrayed as German. But he is 100% Swiss, just like Falco is Austrian.

As a teenager, I never or hardly listened to songs in German. I like metal, rock and punk. Those were mostly in English. I considered most German-speaking music as old-fashioned. There are exceptions of course. Die Ärzte, Die Toten Hosen, and Rammstein.
Now, I listen to many German bands (even German speaking bands) because I absolutely love folk metal/rock like Saltatio Mortis, Feuerschwanz and dArtagnan (just naming those, because I have seen them live and loved it, but don't take those to serious, they are mostly about fun, drinking and party🎉)

German is very closely related to the English language, which is why there are many more English songs by Germans in Germany than in countries like Spain or France. French people have a much more difficult time with the English language.
It gets worse: English is practically a daughter language of "German" First there was Saxon, then the Saxons migrated to England and became Anglo-Saxons and spoke Anglo-Saxon. A ... few ...years later, after a sound shift and some language developments, there was suddenly English and German. But it is important to understand that German and English are related languages. 🤗
