the problem with ESC is that we get to vote from a selection who goes. but most of that time the selection is pretty shitty because germany doesn't actually want to host the ESC (because it's expensive). but because it was technically a vote for who went they can just say "look guys the person you voted for went. aw they got last place bummer". in some other years it was purely political (same with lena winning over turkey tho. during that time germany was a big sponsor and they basically said we gotta win sometime again or we wont pay anymore lol)
