    Metal Detecting is a good way of chilling out, its a good bit of therapy, fresh air, long walks. Its also a bit like those unboxing videos you see on youtube because even though you have an idea of what's buried below your feel you're never really sure. I love watching people such as Aquachigger, NuggetNoggin, Dr Tones, Addictedtobleeps, Si Finds, DALLMYD and Digger Dawn. I've been Detecting with Deep Digger Dan during his digging the coast 365, that was fun. I used his XP Deus... Very light. I started out using the Garrett Ace 250 and then added a Nel Tornado coil. After that I started using a Nokta Makro Kruzer and some how managed to find so much more on land I thought had been detected to death. Silver coins, WWII badges and bullets and down the beach I've even found GOLD and Silver Rings. In my latest video I've finally found a Roman Coin and A Saxon Strap End. Subscribe to continue watching and see where this adventure leads me next.

    Bit late on this one but Simplex for me just for the fact it’s waterproof and for the price just a better machine. I love my Nox 800 but don’t like the look of the red Garrett lookalike Vanquish. To be honest I think another reason is that the Simplex is just a joy to use, don’t ask me why but there’s just something about a simple turn on and go less fussy machine that just puts a smile on your face when using it. Great unbiased fair review. Hard to believe on your roundup that the Simplex is the cheaper machine.

    These were the two machines I was deciding on when buying my first detector. So I bought the simplex and then the coil shorted out on my third session out. So I bought the Vanquish 540 to hold me over until the coil came in. After using both of the machines quite a bit since then I have to tell you the Simplex is the better machine for me and I sold my Vanquish. The tones on the Simplex are so much sharper stronger and give you much more information on the target than the generic sounding Vanquish tones in my opinion. It also does better in the Trashy Parks we have here with iron then the Vanquish does, and on the beach be waterproof makes it a no-brainer. The Simplex is frankly a coin finding machine. Just my two cents...

    I like the fact that it does pick up your iron coin . { Vanquish ) in my country some of my coins are made out of full iron, so I would not want to discriminate my iron out. I like that it doesn`t have the built in battery which means I should be able to use my own rechargeable double AA batterys to power it up. Would like to know how well would it work on salt water beaches at low tide. The companys are makeing a big mistake by makeing detectors with built in batterys, if they made them to operate on doulble AA batterys I would think a lot more of us would want to buy them, & the dealers would sell more detectors. I have seen some very good detectors i would have loved to buy, but there is no way i want a built in battery operated detector.

    I wouldn't go as far as saying "The only thing sets the simplex apart from the vanquish is just waterproof" the firmware is upgradable the minelab is not.
    You do such a fine job on the comparison videos, detailed information, on site demonstrations, just brilliant, what no one seems to mention though is "While your detecting with the Vanquish, how do we know people are not thinking you tore out a stop sign and swinging it? J/K"
    Like you I got them both and just can't wait to get out, I tried the simplex a couple of times and the real only beef I had or mini gripe is I wish the lower shaft was just a bit longer say four inches, I mean its plenty long now but extended out full it becomes a bit wobbly and having more of the shaft in makes it more stationary.
    If you have a chance to hunt an area that has terrible emi that you have hunted before and had problems with other machines, try the simplex, that machine did so good in places I had major problems with higher end models, that really surprised me.
    Thanks for the show and advice, well taken.

    A lot of people are misrepresenting the price difference. With ease, you can get a 540 Pro Pack for $400 USD shipped. Checking about 10 dealers the cheapest quote I got on the Simplex with Wireless Headphones was $320 shipped. $80 difference gets you the useful 8" coil and Multi-IQ, and a machine that works the iron and trash a lot better than the SImplex. The only deep Simplex mode does terrible in the trash as far as recovery speed, Park mode loses a ton of depth. The Vanquish outshines it in most any dirt.

    Nicely done comparison, not showing any bias whatsoever. Your closing comments are also unbiased, pointing out the strength as well as deficiency of each machine. I own both the 600 & 800 Equinox, and if buying a backup I would go with the Simplex+ with wireless headphones. IMO, Minelab dropped the ball on this, and I believe that they could have put a rechargeable battery and waterproofed the unit. I’m not sure what they were thinking, but those two features are a game changer for me. The Vanquish took the latest multi frequency technology and put it in an archaic AA battery box that you can’t get wet...very bad move, IMO.
    But hey...I’m only the guy with disposable income looking for the best features my money can buy. I think this will bite them in the backside, as only rabid Minelab fan boys will choose Vanquish over Simplex is they are really doing their homework. It’s a pretty easy decision for me. Thanks for a great comparison video.

    • @mtslyh
      @mtslyh 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm not sure I totally agree. Although I bought the Simplex over the Vanquish because of it being waterproof and because it was already available, I definitely had my reservations about the rechargeable battery. The bottom line is that rechargeable batteries have a life of about 3-4 years. In another 3 years, we are going to be inundated with complaints from Simplex users yelling about how expensive it was to replace their rechargeable batteries after they died. For most of us, metal detectors are not like cell phones. When your cell phone battery dies, you are usually ready for a new phone anyway. When the battery dies on your metal detector, you will likely want to keep that detector (at least for a spare). Given that the Vanquish can also use standard rechargeable AA batteries, there is very little benefit to having an internal rechargeable battery that is not user serviceable. So given the choice, I'd rather have a detector that takes user supplied rechargeable batteries of the AA type. HOWEVER... there is a big issue when it comes to serviceable batteries and making something waterproof. It is definitely easier to waterproof a machine that uses a non-user serviceable battery. That's just the way it is. As a side note, I recently got back into detecting after being away for 6 years. I threw a 9V battery into my old Tesoro detector and it started right up with no issues. That is not something you will be able to do with a Simplex or any other metal detector with an internal non-user serviceable rechargeable battery.

    • @CDFFla
      @CDFFla 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mtslyh That is the pros and cons for what unit choice to pick from. You get this but, not that or not that but, get this! I chose Vanquish because it having multi frequency!.......I hunt primarily salt beaches. I would have picked Simplex otherwise! It's a good value for what it offers!

    • @halfstep67
      @halfstep67 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your reason is that a rechargeable battery won't last thru 6 years of not being used, that is a lame argument.

      For those who actually use their detectors, rechargeable batteries are a lot cheaper to use over time. And most are easily replaced if they go bad from 6 years of not being used.

    • @mtslyh
      @mtslyh 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@halfstep67 You appear to have completely missed my point. You do realize that they make rechargeable AA batteries right? In fact, the Vanquish 540 comes with rechargeable batteries and a charger. So it is not a question of the cost of rechargeable vs alkaline batteries. It is a question of user-replaceable vs sending it to a dealer to have the battery changed should something go wrong. All I'm saying is that if all else was equal (and in this case all else is NOT equal) I would pick a detector where I can change the rechargeable batteries myself rather than having to send it in to a repair shop to change a battery. After all, batteries go bad all the time. LiPo batteries have lots of problems with heat, cold, and not caring for them correctly. And of course, any built in battery needs to have a battery charge connector which also tends to go bad with the constant plugging in and out. What happens when your special Simplex battery cable port goes bad? What is that going to cost to have fixed? And in case you still missed it... I bought the Simplex anyway because "not all else was equal". I simply don't think a built in non-user replaceable battery is a good thing. I understand why it is potentially a necessity on a waterproof machine (Garret has struggled with this), but it is a necessary evil in my book.

    • @halfstep67
      @halfstep67 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Minelab equinox's battery can be replaced by the user and is not hard to do. The charging port is magnetic and seems to be reliable but the contacts need to be cared for. The CTX 3030 has a battery that is removable and if precautions are not followed, water can get in and damage the electronics. I have both the CTX 3030 and equinox 800 and I can see advantages to both battery systems. I can leave the CTX in the truck and just remove the battery. This makes it nice. I don't have to lug the detector back and forth from the truck to the house. But I also like the carefree battery on the equinox and don't have to worry as much about leaks. But I have to lug it back and forth from the truck to the house.

      I like most guys have a lot of battery powered tools. I have some Bosch 18v tools with a wireless charger. I just sit the battery on the charger and it charges the battery. Some smart phones have wireless charging capabilities as well. I believe that wireless charging would be the best system for the detector. It would eliminate the charging port and reduce any leaking possibilities. I am surprised it hasn't been done yet.

    The simplex looks like nokta makro was highly inspired by the minelab equinox😅✌
    Now they have a very good machine for a unrivaled price. This machine is really impressive.
    I cant understand why minelab wants to compete with garretts ace model series?! Minelab should do detektors in the same style like the equinox, sure even more simple but that way.
    Now it's doing nokta makro instead of minelab🤷🏻‍♂️😅✌

    I was deciding between these two too, but in another test simplex was worse than VAN 540 and VAN 540 have 3 years guarantee, simplex only 2 in my country but yeah price difference is relative big in Czech 260 VS 380 £ but set VAN 540 including Minelab PRO-FIND 20 too per 85£ then the price is practically the same and that's maybe a reason why is their usefulness practically identical :) greetings form CZ

    You didn't try them on the wet sand. Any VLF will perform in those conditions. I have a Vanquish and an XP Deus and ORX also a whites V3i and Tesoro Tejon and a Garrett Sea Hunter. Obviously the Sea Hunter is a purpose made beach and salt water PI detector. The only machine I own that can keep up with the PI on wet (NOT DRY LIKE YOU DEMONSTRATED) is the Vanquish.
    Now although very good the Vanquish can not attain the depth of the Garrett, but it spanks any other Vlf I have used on all areas of the beach. Take the Simplex on to the wet sand and try again.
