It can only be a good day when you're just waking up and listening to such a classic for the first cup of coffee and looking into your smiling faces.
What can i say. Possibly the greatest guitarist of all time, one of the greatest songs of all time, and 2 of the greatest singers Crosby and nash as backing singers to the awesome David Gilmour and Richard Wright plus a great band.
The saxophone switch was even more impressive when you realize that the Baritone (first one) is in the key of E flat and the Tenor is in B flat. So he had switch up the transposing too.
Yeah, I played Baritone, Tenor, and Alto back in school.
I have no idea what you just said. But as long as you and others do, the uninitiated such as myself may enjoy the labors of your enjoined skills. Thanks to you and all those who create.

@@rondohunter8966 Basically, when an E-flat saxophone plays a written concert pitch 'C', the actual pitch sounding will be an E-flat. So if it was playing with a violin, the violin would be written in the key of C major, and the sax would be written in the key of E-flat major. It can get quite convoluted and it takes deep experience with the instruments to be able to switch them so effortlessly.

You are probably aware that little more than a week ago Davids 'Black Strat' was auctioned off at Christies for 3.9million dollars (including fees). THAT is iconic and all about respect!

I seem have been coming across this all day.
Shredding is technically very, very impressive when done well; I admit that. And yes, if you want; I'm a jealous loser who can't move his fingers.
But to put technical ability above the way some musicians can read your emotions like a book and then scribble all over them is just pure bunk.
To expand on what I said on another channel:
There is a physical limitation to how fast you can play. Well done to all who get there or get close.
But there is NO limitation to how much emotion you can convey with music.
If you value the first more, then I personally think you're not cut out to be listening to music.

This song has been deemed a masterpiece by musicians of all types of music. David Crosby was honored to be part of this concert for this song. Weather it is the concert version or the album version, it is simply put, A MASTERPIECE.
There is nothing like the sight of David Crosby watching David Gilmore play some of the most iconic guitar lines on the planet. That level of admiration and respect is what it's all about and, what's important for us all.
It always brings a smile to my face seeing Kel take so much joy in discovering some of the greatest music she never knew existed. After so many of us have worn our albums out listening to them over and over- Her wonder really makes the appreciation for these classics, and the artists that created them, brand new again.
I can't imagine a world without David Gilmour...

The Live In Gdansk version is arguably even better: the intro is played on wine glasses, followed by Rick Wright's synth. Magical.

When my elder brother was in the aviation industry, his company had an Open Day. One of the flying displays was two gliders doing a formation routine to Shine On You Crazy Diamond..
I have never seen this version. One word. Masterpiece and i have you to thank for it!!!!
Pink Floyd is one of the few bands that can make me cry, for joy or sadness. You don't have to record it but please listen and enjoy all of there music.
David IS a guitar god, and this was the best live recording of this one I've heard.
When that was released little did we all know that it would be one of the last two recordings of Rick. (The last being Live in Gdansk from the same tour) I get sad watching it. His keyboards and vocal harmonies were so integral to PF's sound.
The favorite live version of Shine On for me though has to be the one on Pulse. When it came out I would sit in the dark, eyes closed, with headphones listening to it. Letting it wash over and through me.

That guitar solo have been inside my head for many many many years. Listening to it again brings back a lot of past memories.
I am a divorced fella, unfortunately, who is a huge Tool fan. The Tool is how I got here, but as I struggle to find the resolve to soldier back out to try to find someone to share life and love with, you guys give me the framework to strive for. I hope you guys really treat one another this well all the time.

We are on a medical hold because of the injuries and problems Kel suffered in the pitbull attack. She has another surgery scheduled for mid February so we are optimistic that that will have a good result and we will return by summer. Obviously no way to tell at this point, but that’s what we are hoping for.

As a fan of Pink Floyd i can attribute this to listening to Uriah Heep, who were always underrated, the David Byron era is a must.

This version is fantastic with David Crosby and Graham Nash. Did not know of it’s existence. Lastly, David Crosby put out a solo album around 1971 with a song on it, Cowboy Movie. That song and album is what got me through the teen years. Anyway, great Floyd version here!
They did even better on a song Gilmour wrote called The Blue where he specifically arranged it with their stellar harmonies in mind. It is found on the On An Island album and on this live dvd.

That is one power packed stage....
One of the greatest songs ever. still moves me to this day. There is a Gilmour live version (gdansk maybe?)....where that opening chord that's droning in the back over the intro is done on wine glasses (you read that correctly...wine glasses.). pretty cool!
Is was at all 3 nights of these shows back in 2006, stunning shows, 3rd night encore was the best as Nick Mason joined David and Rick on stage, no film of that has come out even though I know there was some filmed as the 3rd night I was sat above the remote camera operators in the choir stalls and could see their screens.

This is a much sparer, quieter arrangement than most of the others. Still another dimension of a man noted for high production values throughout his and Floyd's career.

After the massive success of Dark Side Of The Moon, they decided to take things a notch down and record an album called "Household Objects" in which they would use things found around a house to create music without any traditional instruments. That proved too difficult and the project was scrapped but one sound that survived is the opening 'synth' wash to this track which was partially created by running a finger around the rim of wine glasses.

Correction: Allan Parsons Project's "Time" is not very good...IT'S GREAT! Pink Floyd is probably my favorite group of all time, but Allan Parsons Project has some fantastic music as well.

I love Crosby & Nash, have all their albums. You should react to 'Carry Me' and 'To the Last Whale' both are gorgeous songs from "Wind on the Water."

This was written about their estranged band member Sid Barrett. When they were recording it, Sid (who was going through a tough time) unexpectedly turned up at the door to the studio by coincidence.

I was working part time during high school as a stock boy in a women's store, Ormonds if either of you remember, in our local mall when this album came out. The assistant manager loved Floyd, Zeppelin and those types of groups, the manager was a full on feminist Carly Simon, Carole King and Helen Reddy type. Used to try and schedule when Meg, the asst manger was working, because the music we had was donated from the Sam Goody store in the mall, she'd load up Welcome to the Machine, Dark Side of the Moon Animals, Zeppelin II, III, IV and Physical Graffitti on the store turntable and turn it up. Made the days or evenings go by so much better!!
GD I love watching the master at work. And he just recently auctioned of $21.5 million worth of his guitars for charity, no less. Fucken talented and awesome human being.
