I have to say that when I was a little kid I first saw TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN and two things hit me. First was the beautiful JANET MARGOLIN and 2nd was the joke where Woody's character, VIRGIL, was 'making a meager living by selling meagers', at which point there he was, Virgil, selling gift wrapped boxes of meagers on the street. I turned around to my parents and asked them what meagers were. I believe they may still be laughing today, at their poor, innocent boy's question. It was a golden moment seeing my parents laughing non-stop.

One of my favourite directors !!!
Alvy, you were just great.
Best appearance at the Oscars EVER! We love you, Woody!!!!!!!! #WeLoveWoodyAllen
Woody Allen is my idol , the film Manhattan is one of my all time. favorite films. it's a gift to N.Y.
the opening sequence with the music of George Gershwin and those panoramic b/w shots of Manhattan skyline never fail to give me goosebumps.
That's the worlds best screenwriter currently living!
and this is the first last only time mr allen will ever grace an awards show in his life
+Igor Yankilevich - If you can discern the future with such clarity, what are the numbers for the next Powerball lottery? Send me a PM please, as I don't want others to see them.
I've got them. 4 8 15 16 23 42
yeah, another was just a few years ago with afi for diane keaton. new york and keaton - two loves of his life for who he would make the exception any day.
Jade Scorpion is probably Woody's most underrated unappreciated masterpiece.
We love you, Woody! You're the best!
@lionelraoul due to rights issues, we cannot post film clips--they are the property of the individual studios.
I love that he still does that fake cough thing, the stand up ticks don't go away.
Stay safe Woody.we need you.
Woody, Paul, Manhattan...pure greatness.
There is something in that guy! Love watching his movies
Master Allen.
A true genius.
The greatest living filmmaker. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤
Love him. I went to New York for a week once and I just kept thinking "I wish I could bump into Woody Allen". I admire him enormously
He still plays clarinet at Carlysle.
I hope you don't have children. Also, you need JESUS.
@@vybie I don't have children and I am a Christian
@@davidmilligan7820 good for you then. Woody Allen is a Luceferian for your information.
@@vybie I don't know anything about his beliefs, but I like his humour
This speech makes me wish Allen had come to the Oscars sooner, think of all the great acceptance speeches we could have gotten.
i watched it several times. I think Woody's reading his own words from a teleprompter and that he purposefully had that script because he did not want to cry on TV. Also, when he speeds up a bit, it's to avoid doing so.
How do you know?
I remember watching the Oscars that year. When Whoopi said a New York landmark, I knew it was Woody, but never believed he'd attend the Oscars. And then he appeared!
I remember watching this. Still love it. Especially the "Do they want them back bit" hilarious
Woody Allen is a treasure...love him and his amazing films. The world and especially US have gone bonkers ever since. I mean where is the unity people...UNITED States....more like Un-united States.
garry shandling & marc maron reminded me of this on wtf...this moment froze time...i was in a brownstone in park slope, brooklyn, with my band getting equipment for a gig at the old knitting factory in tribeca...none of us even watched television back then, but the academy awards just happened to be on...the second whoopi goldberg said: woody allen, my drummer dropped a ride cymbal on her foot & i dropped my guitar & started to feel like i was having a panic attack...nyc & the whole universe was pure chaos at that point...then woody did standup & killed as if he never missed a beat.
Woody Allen is the greatest American filmmaker of the last 50 years...Fans of Scorsese, Kubrick, Spielberg, Coppola, De Palma, Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson, Peckinpah, Malick, Spike Lee, Oliver Stone, Coen Brothers, Friedkin, Cameron , I'm sure would all like to argue their case..But none have been as consistent or have continued to make intensely personal films and stay totally true to their own vision as Woody has..just putting it out there folks
The voice of Z from the 1998 Dreamworks movie ANTZ.
Everything about Woody Allen's appeal is all right here in this clip.
he is sooooo funny
The man has not done stand up comedy for over 3 decades and he still kills it. Unbelievable!
I love him too!!! love the standing ovation -- he's got to know people love him!!!
The real Mr. N.Y.
He started as a stand up comic still hasn't lost his touch
I have to say that when I was a little kid I first saw TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN and two things hit me. First was the beautiful JANET MARGOLIN and 2nd was the joke where Woody's character, VIRGIL, was 'making a meager living by selling meagers', at which point there he was, Virgil, selling gift wrapped boxes of meagers on the street. I turned around to my parents and asked them what meagers were. I believe they may still be laughing today, at their poor, innocent boy's question. It was a golden moment seeing my parents laughing non-stop.
totally with you on Margolin
This was one of the best Oscar moments of all time. Woody Allen's stand up comedian talent is so unknown. Awesome talent. The surprise that he showed up to the Oscars when he never even showed up when he won was a huge surprise. That combined with the 9/11 tribute to NY was perfection. NY is now a woke, liberal disaster but in 2002 it was still awesome.
Same hollywood people now pretend to despise woody. Amusing
Woody Allen has never been unpleasant about anyone, despite some unpleasant people having been unpleasant about him. He strikes me as a dignified man and genuine person.
AN ICON
New York looked beautiful thanks to him
I believe in Woody
HE IS A GENIUS!!
I love this guy to bits.... :)
And: HE IS A GENIUS!! TOTALY!!
What a great director and writer!
A standing ovation. How times have changed since.
Thank you for uploading this!!!!!! I was so happy that Woody Allen came to introduce this!!!!!! This was after September 11th!!!!! Now could someone upload the Kevin Spacey intro to the In Memoriam segment because that is when the audience stood for a moment of slience because of the victims of 9/11. So moving and haunting!!!!
this guy is funny and entertaining. thats legendary.
What a great guy!
One of a kind that Woody Allen guy !
4:07 Paul McCartney and Heather Mills - Ouch!
pac401 haha I caught that too
Yes!!
Yah and Woody made a foot joke LOL
@@unstablesun8179 LOL pity they didn't show their reaction to that one !
Sometimes it's easy to forget... the guy is a stand-up comedian (I know that was a long time ago, but a true stand-up is always a stand-up, just like a Marine is always a Marine).
