    I had my first tutoring lesson yesterday. Today they told me that they don't think it's going to work out. But...we forge onward.

    The tip I found most valuable is keeping notes about the tutoring session. As you said as the business grows you won't be able to keep track so this tip is so valuable to ensure that each student gets the best out of their session. During the session you start to notice certain things about your student and approaches that work and those that don't so writing notes will help so much. Thank you

    I am filling out my application for an online tutoring job today. I'm a bit shy so I'm really nervous about the video interview. I enjoyed your video it help me see that everyone starts somewhere and that you can accomplish things if you take the steps too! I enjoyed tip #1 the best. I believed not knowing an answer would be terrifying as a tutor but your advice helped me understand the bigger picture.
    Great video Lisa! Nice content!

    I’ve been watching these videos to better understand how to begin tutoring. I have worked at local schools for work experience and really enjoyed being out there working one on one, which really contradicted with classroom work and teaching. In fact the inability to work closely with students has put me off public schooling, unless I found a role that involved with small classes. As much as someone needs to do those classes, it stings to know that in a classroom of 30 or so students, you can never really connect with the students as well as you can with a class half the size. I have a strong enthusiasm for education, and learning, and hope to get some tutoring jobs I’ve applied for. This video has been very helpful in allowing me to understand that I was simply over complicating it for myself, expecting me to be really good, or perfect before I’ve even started. ❤

    Great tips! I have been substitute teaching for a while but finally landed a great job as a science tutor at a prep school, I’ve always been able to teach but I need some ideas on how to become a better 1 on 1 tutor. Thanks again!!

    Great advices! I am more or less aware of these rules along my tutoring years but have not been seriously putting them into practice. I need to start over again. Thanks.

    Hello Ma'am Lisa yes communicating to the parents is the best, and for them to know the improvement of their kids. I understand as tutor we must set boundaries. Thank you 🙂

    Hi! I don't quite understand what you mean by setting boundaries; does the student tell me what they expect from me, or am I telling them? And vice versa? Thank you for the video!

    • @LisaTran
      @LisaTran  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi there, thanks for your comment! Personally, I set two-way boundaries (that is, letting students know what you expect of them AND what they can expect of you). Here's another video about this topic if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/Qz82eVxh1u4/w-d-xo.html.

    Keeping anecdotal running record of each tutoring session . Also, asking for feedback from student and or parent.

    Tip 3. In five years, I don't think I've ever asked my students how they think they learn best. I've always tried to be the expert who tells them how they learn best. This merges with number 1. I've been afraid of starting my own business because I've felt I don't have enough knowledge about English and about business. Now I know its okay not to know everything and learn on the job 😂
