very nice video, but i have to point one thing out: digimon world ds is not part of the digimon world series, that was actually a localisation mess; the original name of the game is digimon story, which is the first in a series of 6 games: story, Sunburst/Moonlight (world dawn and dusk in america), Lost Evolution, Super Xros Wars red/blue (LE and Xros Wars being japan exclusives), Cyber Sleuth and Cyber Sleuth Hackers Memory. But other than that, it is a pretty solid video
Man, I can't believe you glossed over SMT like that. If you liked DQ:Monsters you're pretty much garantueed to like any SMT after SMT3 too as the monster collecting and making is similar and the battle system is *much* more engaging (albeit punishing as well) (Also DQM:Joker 2 best DQM game, don't @ me)
For me SMT is ruined by the fusion system. Nothing is worse than fusing two of your powerful but outdated demons and getting something less powerful than either of them in return. The only SMT game I was able to complete was devil's survivor but that's because devil's survivor let you preview the result of your fusions so you could make sure you were getting something better than you were putting in. I love the setting and the combat in SMT games but I always get really far in them and then screw up a fusion and get frustrated and quit.
@@andrewfsheffield I don't know what kind of SMT you played, but there's *always* a combination available to make your strong demons stronger. Mixing your two strongest demons together isn't a good idea most of the time, since the type combinations sometimes don't create a higher level demon. It's not the system's fault that you don't know how to properly use it
These seem very interesting. In my humble opinion, although I love Digimon (clearly), I honestly wouldn't recommend Digimon World Dawn/Dusk, especially to a beginner in the series. The whole game is very grindy, and there are several pitfalls and harsh designs in the game that would make anyone not imbued with the patience of a fan, just give up on the game; The encounter rate is insane and the traversal of the world leads to so many dead ends, you can even easily end up losing progress in the game if you lose too many times, and the quests and Digimon you need to find are all made for people who know about the Digimon world and names well. The best parts of this game is honestly collecting, taking care of and training your Digimon, but with the rest of the game attached I feel other Digimon World titles might be better.
The amount of shade thrown at SMT is almost hilarious. Nocturne just got a remaster in Japan, the fifth game is coming out in spring, and relevant to this channel, the Japanese only trading card game has been getting scans and a fan translation for the past few months.
Idk how you got Fossil Fighter: Champions so cheap. I've been looking everywhere around here, and it's not available, as well as all the listing I see online being at least 100 dollars
Okay, that is new. It really was valued as low as I stated when I made the video. I dunno if someone more popular than me brought it up (I know Jaiden did a video on the original, which is still fun). I know Jaiden's video created a bit of a surge in interest, and Champions wasn't printed as aggressively as the original.
Oh like a year late but but I Kohdok misresearched or something and actually meant Telefang, another Pokémon clone. The owner of the company that produced it would eventually get arrested over MAP related things.
Quick side note that due to inconsistent naming conventions, the Digimon World DS titles more closely resemble the current Digimon Story titles, Cyber Sleuth and Hacker's Memory. The last Digimon World game, Next 0rder, plays much more like the original Digimon World on Playstation. While I prefer the gameplay of the original Digimon World (tamagotchi-esque raising/reincarnating mechanics, real-time battle system without direct control over monsters that requires carefully timed item use and commands), I recognize that this sort of gameplay can be a turn-off for players expecting a more traditional collection and turn-based battle system. Just make sure you know which style of gameplay you want and where to find it before buying a Digimon game.
You say you have another channel for let's play, no wonder it gets no views I can't find it anywhere. At least providing a link for people in the description and your highlighted channels would help.
Monster Rancher is ABSOLUTELY my top pick and one of my all time favorite games...but yes it is ENTIRELY about RAISING monsters. It leans HARD in the virtual pet direction and I love it for that. Monster Rancher 4 is my favorite as you actually get a farm to run around in with up to 5 monsters being raised at once and you physically place the training equipment and have to hand feed the monsters as they get hungry at different rates depending upon the breed and what training they are doing and there are pages and pages of stats and nuances and I LOVE IT! It is absolutely for one very very specific niche. That said...what happened with Robopon? I mean it's a garbage Pokemon clone, yeah, but the sequel was alright and the manga is...bafflingly drawn (all female characters have breasts bigger than their heads but there are no panty shots or nude scenes or anything else lewd about it). Are you just talking about the manga, the flagrant attempt to ape Pokemon's logo, or is there some other disgusting thing associated with its development?
Although, it's technically not a monster game, everyone did called it a Pokemon RIpoff - Megaman Battle Network would be my pick. It's kinda like Digimon, you play as a kid and their digital sidekick, this time its Megaman, and you take on Viruses and other "net navis." Megaman collects chips from the enemies he defeats and can use their powers in battle. You gotta combine you own dexterity to predict and dodge attacks with you own attack tactics to win. I love it, but the first game is really clunky. MMBN 2 and 3 are pretty good. MMBN 4 is weird because it makes you play the game 3 times to unlock everything.
I always felt much more attachment to my digimon than my pokemon. Digimon (unsurprisingly) behave a lot like tamagotchi, while pokemon are just personalizable stat blocks. They took way too long to introduce mechanics about actually caring for your pokes (friendship just rewards you for doing what you were already doing) and by the time they did I had already moved from monsters to tactics with Digimon's DS games being the only ones to win me back for a while.

the Spectrobes series was amazing and i am ashamed of everyone for sleeping on it also yeah gonna have to hop on the Monster Hunter Stories bandwagon it's pretty fun

a thing about the digimon games. Main line Digimon games are divided in two categories, one is the digimon story that's more akin to a regular monster collector rpg game (wolrd ds, world dawn and world dusk are in reality a Digimon Story game) while the world are the ones kinda emulating the gameplay of the original v-pets (the gameplay of the first digimon world for psx, another example are re: digitize and next order)
Monster rancher franchise is entirely built around the schedule based training and tournament battles. It wasn't just the DS one. It is about ranching monsters for tournaments not adventure. It's a spin off of the series that trades in the monster breeding and endless tournaments for dungeons, a full story mode, and quirky circus antics. Believe me when I say DQM2 is better. You get access to really cool monsters incredibly quickly, even more so if you get a breeding list. There's, like, maybe six pallet swaps out of hundreds of monsters (And half of them are for the Metal Slime line). Each zone also has its own storyline and problems to be solved. not just a new place to stop on your journey. The Ice World has enough story content to practically be its own rpg. You also get keys which unlock literally infinite new possible worlds, adding a splash of Mystery Dungeon to the whole thing. You can never run out of new places to explore
Digimon world dawn/dusk are neat, but the maps are really easy to get lost in and if you're a completionist well, you're screwed because a small portion of the game is locked behind Nintendo wi-fi which no longer exists. Certain digimon are unobtainable and evolution trees are locked out unless you obtain version exclusive baby forms by connecting and making digieggs with the other game. I guess you could do it locally if you have both copies and 2 ds systems, but that's not something most people should go out of their way to do. That being said, you can enjoy the core game without worrying too much about this stuff. I played the crap out of Dusk so personally I'm sick of it, but a fan translation of Lost Evolution is in the works and loosely planned on being released this year, so I'm looking forward to that.

you should get the cyber sleuth for the switch it's two games in one and i never played dusk/dawn but the way you described them you'll probably like cyer sleuth
To be honest unlike many seem to think Pokemon wasn't first monster game. That honor belongs to little game series called Shin Megami Tensei that's best known spin-off is Persona. Also World of Final Fantasy is really good monster game and worth playing.
Yo-kai watch was the cause why I buyed 3ds in 2016. I think it's a great game and a great anime and manga series. Unfortunately Cartoon Network stop airing after episode 73. I hope the 4th game also will release outside of Japan on ps4, because I don't wanna buy switch for only one good game.
Spectrobes! I enjoyed all three games and I found them to be more innovative then the pokemon of that time and after that I found many pokemon to be to far away from I found cool.
Monster Hunter Stories is bar none THE best monster collecting game. Customizable monsters, a battle system better than literally any other game in the genre, a story that you impact by playing. Every NPC is different (unlike Pokemon lol) and they all grow throughout the story. Every single one has something new to say after a story event. It's a phenomenal game. Please, whoever reads this, play it. It's $29.99 USD on Amazon right now, and it's also available on iOS and Android if you don't have a 3DS.
Appmon's failings only relate to the shit that happened after Bandai canned it due to incompetence, and referring to what was at least a critical and ratings darling as a failure while the thing that most of even the Japanese fanbase want unpersoned, to say nothing of the international disdain, as a tepid response is hilarious.
Dragon Quest Monster: Joker 1 is the worst of the joker series for sure. I still wish every day that Dragon Quest Monster: Joker 3 Professional will get an English translation.
you did my boy shin megami tensei dirty in this video. Is it overshadowed by persona? Yeah. But the mainline games are still being released and are pretty much all fantastic. Play smt: strange journey on ds! do it!!!!
They rereleased the tara and cobi on 3ds and there is an amazing full game patch for English. Its amazing and updated hope all know dqm is still goin and there r fan patches out there!!! There is also a great patch for dragon quest monsters joker 3 honestly dqm games are my favorite because I love fusion idea
This is completely false. The _only_ public attempt of a translation of the Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 remake stopped three years ago, with absolutely no hint of progress.
How dare you say smt is overshadowed by persona I mean its true but only in the west and also its not like smt works like normal series. Spinoffs are supposed to overshadow the main games because those come out once ever thousand years. Its like saying it was overshadowed by lost bible which while true at the time isnt exactly accurate
You mention persona and its not on the list. Nor SMT bolth series I'd say smash most of this list. Also you do capture level and battle in those games.
To anyone curious about fossil fighters. DO NOT PLAY FRONTIERS, IT IS SO BAD, fossil fighters frontiers is the worst game on the 3ds, worse than sticker star. Seriously the game is turbo trash.
Fossil fighters is absolutely the hidden gem that more people should’ve discovered.

Appmon's failings only relate to the shit that happened after Bandai canned it due to incompetence, and referring to what was at least a critical and ratings darling as a failure while the thing that most of even the Japanese fanbase want unpersoned, to say nothing of the international disdain, as a tepid response is hilarious.
i feel like ykw3 was the best in my opinion lots of new yokai, 2 characters, a side story for the blasters mode, new gimmicks and battle system.
This went out of beta fairly long after this video, but play Monster Sanctuary
The lack of background music makes this kinda surreal
I had the fealing monster hunter stories 2 wront be on this list
Dragon Quest Monster: Joker 1 is the worst of the joker series for sure. I still wish every day that Dragon Quest Monster: Joker 3 Professional will get an English translation.
you did my boy shin megami tensei dirty in this video. Is it overshadowed by persona? Yeah. But the mainline games are still being released and are pretty much all fantastic. Play smt: strange journey on ds! do it!!!!
I started DQ7/DW7 as a kid 😂
Wait there's a fossil fighter sequel
2 of them but the first will always hold a special place in my heart and I will never buy the third :^)
The second one is decent, but the 3ds one is basically a different game since it was handled by different people, and it's booty cheeks.
Monster Sanctuary is really gooood
We just call em critter catchers.
Too bad we only got two fossil Fighters games.
My first dragon quest game was actually 9
They rereleased the tara and cobi on 3ds and there is an amazing full game patch for English. Its amazing and updated hope all know dqm is still goin and there r fan patches out there!!!
There is also a great patch for dragon quest monsters joker 3 honestly dqm games are my favorite because I love fusion idea
I knew about the Terry's Adventure patch, but not this one, so thanks for informing me.
This is completely false. The _only_ public attempt of a translation of the Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 remake stopped three years ago, with absolutely no hint of progress.
Honestly I think Yokai Watch 3 is the best in the entire series
Ok, but i fully expected SMT III: Nocturne, or Persona 3 Portable to be on this list.
How dare you say smt is overshadowed by persona
I mean its true but only in the west and also its not like smt works like normal series. Spinoffs are supposed to overshadow the main games because those come out once ever thousand years. Its like saying it was overshadowed by lost bible which while true at the time isnt exactly accurate
Let me guess
Digimon
Yo Kai Watch
Monster rancher
Are on the list .
Tbf pokemon did the sun and moon thing before sun and moon. What do you think ho-oh and lugia represent?
Phoenix and Ryujin. Neither of which are tied to the sun or moon.
Now I want yokai watch and digimon dusk
you should try Yo-kai watch 3 because it is the fan favourite, most people love it a some of the fans hate it but 90% the fans love it!
I love dragon quest!
I liked DQM Joker. 😢
Ah yes, starting with the SwSh complaints, great first impression.
It is, cuz this dude aint a shill.
He does mostly toy reviews anyway.
“Great”
Dq9 represent
Where the fuck is shin megami tensei?
I liked Demikids...
For those interested in fossil fighters you should check out jaiden animations channel she has a cool story about it
You mention persona and its not on the list. Nor SMT bolth series I'd say smash most of this list. Also you do capture level and battle in those games.
I played dragon quest ix
Robopon is ass but I love it!!
You're calling Dragon Warrior the granddaddy of JRPGs? Uh, Falcom would like to have a word with you.
they could certainly be considered the founding fathers of action-JRPGs, but not turn-based.
" monster rancher was too much raising "
Him also talk about Digimon witch is 99% Digimon raising and 1% pure frustration .
I thought 1 was the Magic Number because Disney Sequel are Poor and the Third alway kill the franchises.
To anyone curious about fossil fighters. DO NOT PLAY FRONTIERS, IT IS SO BAD, fossil fighters frontiers is the worst game on the 3ds, worse than sticker star. Seriously the game is turbo trash.
I'm making a monster battler that is very similar to Pokemon: It's not finished.
Honestly releasing DLC for $30 is better than having to buy the same game for $60 with a little buff.
...You know the last time they did that sort of thing was 2008, right? Platinum was literally the last one.
the pokemon games were finished, they are doing downloadable content instead of a sequel game this gen
Hay I like both fossil fighters frontier and yo kai watch 3
you are cute
