"Blue cards are all overpowered" Yugioh Ritual monsters; "Why do you hate me daddy?" EDIT; Yes links are blue, but not all blue yugioh cards are links. And YES there have been a couple of good ritual archetypes, but those were short lived until very recently when rituals all got a couple of massive playmakers that were designed to fix ritual monsters with very strong search effects.
[laughs in gishki while looping your full hand and decking you out turn 1] [laughs again, but harder, in nekroz while banishing your stuff and negating your extra deck and battle phases]
@@ESPmrBrough And now we have Impcantations, looming menecingly over the card pool, just waiting until any new exploitable ritual monster get released to use their bullshit card advantage and consistency to support it
While I haven't seen the original japanese anime, the English translation was done in a gag style (think lilttle Kuriboh's Yu-gi-oh abridged) & made references to tropes in other shows like yu-gi-oh while using its own card game. The Duel Masters card game itself is actually a simplified version of MTG (allowing any card to be used as mana rather than dedicate deck space to lands). Imo the game was cool, but the anime didn't promote or explain it well.
I know this video is 4 years old but im only finding it now and need to clarify some things: You were correct in that Kaijudo introduced a Crush block but it was NOT the set with corrupted in them, it actually came a full year earlier with dragonstrike infernus, a set that was so infamously and admittedly by WOTC themselves undertested, that one set alone is what made WOTC need to implement a set rotation otherwise the game would never get past some of the absurdly powerful cards like herald of infernus, andromeda of the citadel, and lyra the blazing sun to name a few. Corrupted cards were dick on the ground terrible, and the only successful corrupted decks in the games history was a BW tempo deck that had maybe 12 corrupted cards total. Literally NO ONE threw out their collections due to corrupted coming out, theyre terrible. Also as an aside, the glaring issue with the TV show wasn't that the writing was awful (which it was) the issue was that it didn't make you want to buy cards! Nothing in that show even remotely implied that there was a card game associated with the show, so the whole goal WOTC had of capturing the younger demographic and getting them into card games was completely lost. Add this to the fact that the show was only played on hasbro's exclusive cable TV channel which almost no one watches and the fact that they sunk literally millions marketing that show INSTEAD OF THE GAME and yea no wonder the game flopped.
Ironically the fact that it wasn't just *"Hey you! Look at these card! You want to buy them! Buy buy buy!"* was one of the things I actually liked about Kaijudo oddly enough, that and the fact they focused upon the lore of their own game rather than tournaments (ironically if the original Duel Masters manga did that, there might not have been a Duel Masters card game, it would have stayed an MTG Manga.)
@@heroprime7599 2 simple reasons. First, the MLP fanbase is ravenous. They will seek out and follow the show to that network, but very few people START looking for show on said network. Secondly, just because a show is popular doesnt mean it is being watched on television or even on its legal streaming service. Tons of people in all fandoms want to watch a show but dont want to pay for cable so they just sail the 7 seas in some form.
The Crush Block was Quest for the Gauntlet. The powercreep of DSI was psychotic and Bottle of Wishes was a game ruining mistake but the game went on for another year before the Crush Block came. I'm making my own post to explain my stance/reasoning now.
@@stencetheboss Actually, the reason the Hub is known for is the MLP cartoon. Apparently, when word came out it was actually good, people jumped into it, but they basically remained exclusively with MLP and Transformers Prime (which was also out at that time), ignoring things like Kaijudo because of that.
I watched Kaijud,o and enjoyed it well enough, and it wasn't until the series had already ended that I realized it was a reboot of Dual Masters which I used to play when I was younger. Went through the whole show and never knew there was a card game associated with it, one I was actually familiar with to boot.
After four years it's still an inspiring and unique talk, thank you for that! Duel Masters is still alive even if it's dead now for more than 15 years. We have an active and solid community in Germany still playing, collecting and trading since the beginning and are happy to be able to upload deck profiles, discussion videos and matches on our channel (German Duel Masters) until today. It's definitely my favourite game and we will be on track for more years. Thanks for your talk anf cheers from Germany, Loui
I really miss Duel Masters/Kaijudo. I loved the art style, card design, and all the fun flavor text that most cards had. I also liked it more than the other popular TCGs at the time, Pokemon, YuGiOh, Magic. I wish it would have stuck around.
The reason Ray was getting away with breaking the rules is because the rules were stupid and wrong. One of the main rules was to not interact with the creatures. Not to form a bond with them. Ray and his friends were better masters BECAUSE they formed a bond with their creatures. Ray and his friends befriended the creatures while the old masters subjugated theirs. They didn't go as far as the Choten, but they were doing wrong. Over time, the other masters started forming bonds with their creatures. Only one master stayed resolute in his belief that the old rules had to be followed. Guess what, he became a villain.
I had like 13 copies of Super explosive volcanodon back in the day. ...Why did i have so many? I don't remember buying that many packs of Duel masters.
After sitting through this entire 25-minute video, I agreed with some of your points. However, I want to talk about a few things you mentioned in your video, and some other stuff as well. First off, the story about someone getting trapped in one of the civilizations did happen, just... not in the TV show. One of the Kaijudo Masters getting stuck in the Nature Civilization was an important event in the third block of the Trading Card Game. Secondly, the Corrupted cards, from what I recall, nobody really liked all that much. I still remember how one guy said that he hated playing at the Set Premiere for Invasion Earth (the set they debuted in) because the Corrupted cards essentially forced you to run Water in your deck. Despite this, however, they certainly weren't the driving force behind Kaijudo's death. My honest opinion is that a lack of promotion on WotC's part is what led to the game's demise. I remember WotC making one (*ONE!*) commercial for the game, and that was when Rise of the Duel Masters came out, which was in September of 2012, nearly two years before Kaijudo died. To make it worse, they didn't even add a small 10-second blurb at the end of every episode that said "There's a card game for this too, buy some!" I still remember how, in Kaijudo's final months, a Kaijudo Master Challenge, supposedly the "big tournaments" in the game, had only fifteen players show up. One guy (unrelated to the other guy) made a Facebook post about how players looking for another card game to get into would take a look at Kaijudo and its 15-player "massive tournaments" and choose not to invest in it, thanks in part to the poor promotion. I think I've ragged on long enough about Wizards' pisspoor promotion, so let's move on. Thirdly, and my last, and least important, complaint: the Kaijudo Code. Me, being a mere four years hold when DM hit the States, was too young to be enamored with the Kaijudo Code in the way that you were. But thankfully, Kaijudo didn't need the Kaijudo Code. Every time I went to a tournament, I had a great time and met a ton of amazing people. At my first tournament (which I went to when I was 12), it was a Kaijudo Master Challenge with 59 players, the largest KMC at that time. They also previewed a card from the next set that was due to be released at the event, and it was amazing. I met a TH-camr known as The Kaijudo Channel, whom I admired, at the event, so that was a plus. In addition, the people that made the game interviewed me at the tournament, they made a video of the tournament that they uploaded to their TH-cam channel (the link is th-cam.com/video/pp9hWJI4U9c/w-d-xo.html), which I appear in at 1:19. My hand is also in the video at 2:21. So yeah, fun time. The fact that I still remember it just one day shy of being four years ago is just amazing. I only ever had a problem with one person, which I solved by simply blocking them on Facebook, and I haven't dealt with them since. They're still blocked, too, almost three years later. The fanbase for Kaijudo is something that I'm glad I was a part of. Everyone was always super nice (save for that aforementioned blocked guy), and no one had to worry about getting mugged for powerful cards like YGO fans do or getting murdered for powerful cards like MTG fans do. Overall, Kaijudo was something that I'm glad I was a part of. Kaijudo will forever hold a special place in my heart, just like Duel Masters holds a place in yours. My only regret with Kaijudo (besides the marketing) was the fact that Kaijudo never got Cross Gears. I would have loved to have played with Cross Gears in my Kaijudo days. Unfortunately, the difference between you and me was that while you were able to find some TCGs that you liked after DM died, I never got back into TCGs after Kaijudo died. I still remember that I was crushed when my dad told me that WotC had decided to end Kaijudo. Even now, four years later, if you look around my room, you can see all my old Kaijudo stuff. Kaijudo's death left a void in my heart that I guess I replaced with food? Looking at my 12-year-old self made me realize I'd forgotten how much slimmer I was back then (like, 10% slimmer). And I also had braces back then, which I forgot about. What was my point here? Oh yeah, the video. I countered some of the stuff you said in it. We both love this game, although we grew up with different iterations of it. Me and you really aren't so different after all, are we?
I know I'm a year late but I was so down when the game was cancelled. I really wanted to play competitively and I can assure you, the only reason I knew the game existed was because it was.mentioned on the Duel Masters wiki (I keep up with the game despite not owning any of the products). I had to purchase every card I ever owned (and I'm still buying cards now) from The East Coast. No shop in San Diego sold it, and sure there may have been tourneys in San Fran, but there was Damn near no marketing for the game. I legitimately love the game so much that in addition to providing for my life, I'd like to buy the IP some day (if it ever becomes feasible)
It's funny you mention being too young to be enamored by the code. I was too, then I found a dual constructed set at a garage sale the dude didmt even know he had, so he gave it to me. This was YEARS after the game was dead. So i became enamored with something that was never going to live again, and it still sticks with me to this day. When Kaijudo came out and lacked the code, it actually turned me off a fair bit since the show had the perfect setting for it to thrive. Such wasted potential.
The death of Kaijudo left a void in my heart as well. For a card game that was complex but with plenty of interaction both ways, that respected the lore in a way that made it feel like you were actually a person summoning these creatures. I moved on to Force of Will (which I left a year ago cause it lost its soul) and am now straight up making my own card game since nothing like Kaijudo or Duel Masters exists.
20:45 The Kaijudo code. A montra that I keep on my dresser to remind me how I should approach games. I was sincerely shocked when the game Kaijudo came out and ditched it, despite the fact the code would fit perfectly with the new premise of the show and game. The one I have was from the Light and Dark Duel Masters tin instruction booklet. I've carried that thing for around 13 years I wager....probably less. But that little paper rag is still one of the only objects I hold dear, just because it has a genuine strong message. Wizards is pathetic for not putting effort and that code into the show. They could have had something really special.
While I'm very late on the DM train, I've fallen in love with it. It was again thanks to you Khodok, it was thanks to you that I learned about a card game that I would've played if it was still going, heck it would've been my first card game if I wasn't 2 when it died. Heck I already have my favorite cards from DM, those being Eternal Phoenix, Dragonblade Phoenix and HEAVEN, White Knight Lord of Spirits.
And explosive dude Joe! My uncle used to play it with my cousin since he had no siblings and he(my uncle) always wanted to play explosive dude Joe, just cause he liked the name :D
Man, really crushing my childhood by revealing that this series bombed when it come out in the states - I thought everyone was playing it and watching the show! Haha And even a few years ago, I'd still boot up the PS2 game just because the card game was such a joy to play
@@clayxros576 It's not really a mistranslation, because the literal translation of a word is not necessarily the correct translation. Are kaiju films really "strange beast films"? That doesn't really fit, at least not in my opinion. I don't look at kaijus and say "yeah that's a strange beast." It might technically be both strange and a beast, but a platypus is a strange beast, but it's not a kaiju.
The mall tour was amazing. I was 15 at the time and couldn't really afford to get a bunch of cards. Some friends and I went to one of the mall tours and I won enough cards to round out my deck and build 3 of my other friends decks. I still have a card and that same binder signed by one of the artists. It was such an awesome event. I have my collection to this day and get such a strong urge to play from time to time but I don't live in Japan anymore and have no one to play with.
I know it's still big in Japan. I JUST CAN'T FUCKING PLAY IT CAUSE I CANT READ THAT SHIT AND ITS HARD SO IM SUPER GATED OUT OF IT. I wish duel masters took off so I could play THIS game.
Talking about this game again has made me want to go and find the GBA game I had of it years ago, lol. I didn't even play the game, although I had a few cards from things like McDonald's promos. But one day, my family and I went to the store, and my brother and I decided to wait in the car. When my parents came back out, they had a Duel Masters game on GBA that they gave to me. I guess it was on sale or something, lol. I remember feeling weirded out and thinking something along the lines of, "Do my parents really think I'm into this??". But I was smart enough to say thanks and try it out. So glad I did, because it was actually super fun. The card game itself is fun, but the video game kind of turned it into an RPG akin to the Pokemon TCG on Gameboy or Magic: Shandalar on PC where beating opponents would win you new cards, so you could slowly upgrade your starter deck and eventually build a completely new one. There were three DM games on the GBA, and they got better with each release. Avoid the first game like the plague, but Shadow of the Code is the best one, IMHO. I'm not sure if there were ever any other DM games... I think I recall seeing a PS2 game back in the day, but I was 100% a Nintendo kid, so I wouldn't have been able to try it.
I loved watching kaijudo. But I after watching his critique realized he was right. I still enjoyed the show and will continue to do so while accepting it for its flaws
while i consider the overwhelming majority of the first season a 4.5/10, the kaijudo show is something i really started to like, as those tiny, sometimes sentence long glimpses of quality steadily increased. became my favorite show airing at the time, eventually. i miss it still sometimes. also: they did spend time in the kaijudo realms, for full episodes and even multi episode arcs (not sure if you were referencing the CG content or the show in this video but i thought i would clarify).
I had 1 friend in middle school, cory. He and I played Uno, Duelmaster & Yugioh all the time, man I miss that guy, he was the only one crazy enough to play card games with me.
Duel Masters/Kaijudo is probably the best designed card game I've seen. I worked at the mall tour you talked about. But it was just viewed as a little kid's game despite the depths of the mechanics; mature people really didn't want to be seen playing cards with the art direction and names that the cards had.
The rules remind me a little of Elder Scrolls Legends, with how after taking 5 damage you draw, and if that card is a prophecy it is auto played. I thought that was a neat concept, and wish I would have known about Kaijudo before.
For me, Duelmasters was for me one of my favorite TCG, but how good was that game? This game was soo popular that they even got Mc Donalds promotional cards! It’s too bad the game stucks in some areas that at the very end was their own demise.
I remember finding out that duel masters was still a thing in japan a few years ago when looking up the heroes of the realm promos wizards gives their design leads and seeing one fore duel masters, also finding out that Nicol Bolas and Jace have cards in duel masters was kind of neat
While everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I fully realise Kaijudo isn’t for everyone, I disagree with several things he said about the show, specifically that Ray is a “Mary Sue” character. 1st issue: He got the definition of a Mary Sue wrong, I’ll attempt to explain but if you want a more concise answer check out OverlySarcasticProductions Trope talk on Mary Sues. Anyway, calling Ray a Mary Sue because he’s more proficient in Kaijudo than most is a gross oversimplification of what a Mary Sue does; they remove the need for other characters to be present to solve specific issues because the character is “amazing in every possible way” and “does all of their jobs better than they could themselves”. Ray never does this even once. Yes, he is better at Summoning and bonding with creatures, has way more Mana than the average duelist and is a great fighter, but that is where his skill set stops. He‘s reckless and charges into battle, more often than not landing him in trouble which his friends need to help bail him out of danger. Gabe is a far better strategist than Ray while Allie is much more cunning, both bail him out of situations he lands himself into. He consistently looses to Master Brightmore (as he does in the second episode of the series!), the master most avid about sticking to the “rules” of Kaijudo. If he where a Mary Sue, he would never need Allie or Gabe to strategise plans or smooth talk them out of situations, and he would beat Brightmore every time without fail. The reason Rey is played up as “The Natural” in the first three episodes is because he can summon and command creatures far more easily than Allie or Gabe can, and fights better than them because he works well with Tatsurion, his signature Kaiju. Allie and Gabe don’t have signature creatures until later, which is why they’re not nearly as competent as he is during battle. It’s like an RPG team, Rey is the Tank/Fighter, Allie is the Rouge/Glass Cannon, and Gabe is the Wizard/Strategist. Also, the reason the kids are “better” than the Masters (which isn’t true as the Masters constantly have to bail them out of trouble and the kids loose to them often during practice) is because the Masters aren’t duelling to their fullest potential, they use their creatures instead of working with them, taking up time ordering their creatures instead of working together to take down their opponent. Most of them eventually adopt the kids techniques and become far better for it. 2nd Issue: Rey is not a poorly written character by any means. A Mary Sue is blatantly catering to the audience and is perfect in every way, no flaws or quirks that could be seen as unfavourable. Rey has a balance of good and bad qualities: Pro.) he is kind hearted and moral, Con.) he is easy to manipulate and trick. Pro.) He’s a natural at Summoning and working with creatures, Con.) This leads him to become reckless and charge into battle’s he’s not prepared for. Pro.) Is deeply empathetic and cares for others, Con.) He is easy to anger and frequently makes rash decisions in order to correct injustice or save a friend. Rey gradually learns to minimise or work past these issues in the series, and constantly faces issues that challenge his ideals and force him to make hard calls. An example: Carney, Rey’s main bully in the first episode, constantly insults Rey’s mixed race heritage and pushes Rey too far, so Rey goes to his house and summons his creature to teach Carney a lesson. What happens? Rey finds out that Carney’s father is an asshat, which is why Carney is the way he is, promptly gets himself and his creature trapped when it turns out Carney’s father works for the bad guys, and gets sucked into the creature realm WITH Carney and now has to protect his bully with a weakened creature and no means of getting home. How does it end? Rey and Carney work together to stay alive, leading Rey to believe Carney can change for the better, so when they return home he lets Carney go without wiping his memory in hopes he’ll become an ally. However, Carney instead goes to work for the big bad, and becomes one of Rey’s enemies both at school and during battle. So no, Rey isn’t a Mary Sue, not even close. He’s not all powerful and he isn’t badly written or doesn’t undergo character development. Sorry for the rant and not to come off as rude, but I can’t stand someone making such a blanket statement on a show I really like. If you don’t like Kaijudo, fine, no one is forcing you to, but don’t go handwaving it for everyone else when you’ve clearly only watched a few episodes. You can’t rate a series without seeing it in full. Aside from that, interesting video, very informative.
I’ve only heard of it cause I ordered a Magic Card once and it came with a Kaijudo sleeve, I used it for my Commander so I wouldn’t accidentally shuffle it into my deck
Rothus the Traveler is my favorite Duel Masters creature. Well, tied for most favorite. I mean you read the name and you think "Okay, so it's some dude, whatever" but then you look at the card and it's this giant tank-robot with arm cannons and it's like, this tank robot is a *person* with a name, a character. And they're not just about fighting, it's Rothus the *Traveler* not warrior or fighter or anything. It's such a humble name for such a cool, outright violent-looking design. Also I don't understand you saying the Duel Masters show bombed, I freaking loved that when I was a kid. I mean, I know the later seasons that had a new cast were bad, but the original? With its *amazing* dub? I still love it. Edit: What are you talking about, Phil was a second good thing to come out of Hercules. And don't tell me you think the muse gospel wasn't something good. Yer killing me here Kohdok!
I went to one of those mall tours, when I was pretty young. I got second place in a tournament there, where I lost to a Holy Awe. Got a hat for getting the max wins on a king of the hill event. Got one of those binders too, I forget what for. And then I bought like, no packs afterwards. I really liked the game, but I was a kid, didn't have the money to buy cards.
I still have my old Duel Masters deck with the Kaijudo code puzzel card thingy along with the language of combat card (the puzzel cards which make up a picture when all pieces are got) When i watched Kaijudo i and saw Mighty Shouter in it was disapointed that thay turned mighty shouter green from its original redish colour. I really loved reading the flavor text on the cards and mighty shouter was one of my favs with its "I am not pink!".
I still have my D-card that you use to enter tournaments. I enjoy the videos games since they make card games fun by letting me grind for booster packs from beating opponents which is fun and makes me want to use all my cards than having to gain so many in game money to buy a few packs i also enjoyed that the cards were mana itself.
You missed a fun and awesome 2 years. On a side note, Corruption had very little to do with its death and very little impact on the meta of the game. What set its death in motion was the premature release of the set Dragonstrike Infernus, which was actually supposed to come a year later.
They moved it ahead of schedule cause WotC/Hasbro had set up a deal with Walmart. And guess what sells? Dragons! The set featured Dragons. But, anyway, this is one of the many mismanaged decisions WotC made during Kaijudo's run.
+KaijudoGirl Lacy Big stores like Walmart can apply a lot of pressure on those companies, especially since Prerelease events "Give their competition a head start".
+Kohdok corruption was just fun gimmick. I didn't play corruption much, as I'm more of a Nature/Light player. Vicious Squillace Scourge, the dual ( water+ darkness ) colored evolution critter was the only one I remember that was OP.
+KaijudoGirl Lacy If they had released DSI when they were supposed to, they would have had more testing time and the power curve would've been more even.
I wanted to play Kaijudo when it came out, since I was a big player of Duel Masters.. Only to find out nobody was allowed to ship cards outside the U.S, shutting out most of the world.
...oh, So thats why I never see you talk about Buddyfight anymore. Oddly BT04 was when I was able to play more since Black Dragons (Before the price Creep of Today) Was my preferred deck. Also Good thing Purgatory Knights now only get like 2-3 Cards a Season!
Your talk about Dark Dragon World made me remember why I left Vanguard. They released a clan called Link Joker whose mechanic was to basically make cards on your side of the field not exist but you also couldn't replace those cards or use their abilities. They had the ability to make it so that you couldn't attack with anything but your powered down Vanguard quite easily.
I'm not sure whether I should buy duel masters or kaijudo cards? I use to play DM when I was kid. Over the years, my collection was lost. I'm wanting to get back into it and recently discovered kaijudo.
That Core type might have been an interesting spice to the game if they'd noted the meta of mono types only and designed them not to only work with themselves, but each work only/ only gain their full effects when played with specific other types, with each member of the Core having their own "alignments" and effects that either complement those other types they each fit with or compensate for what they lack.
Funny that you called Pokémon a perennial now that the original anime has come to a close. Though the aging thing with the Duel Masters anime does remind me of how in season 3 of Bakugan Dan ended up moving.
on UFS, it is still alive and super good right now. rotation is still a thing (every 10 sets) were the newest set replace the oldest set. but well worth a new look
It's really a shame this game didn't do so well here. I still enjoy playing both duel masters and kaijudo with my friends. Luckily kaijudo products are incredibly cheap right now, so my friends are able get get a few booster boxes for cheap. I also enjoyed the corrupted creatures. When I played back before it died I was literally the only person in my play group that built a 4 civilization corrupt deck. It didn't do so well but I still loved it. I never had a problem with other players. we were all respectful to each other.
So just thinking out loud. Didn't duel Masters pick up in Japan because magic flopped so there wasn't a case of cannibalizing their own sales, in addition to the whole "magic lite" not being an issue with no magic as a reference point?
The gameboy advance games were my favorite. Beating up people to get booster packs from them like in pokemon card game. I want more card games like that. Ya sure its weird someone walking around with booster packs in their pants but i get to try new cards, sell card and just can have fun making decks.
I was honestly surprised DDW was what you called Buddyfight's Crush Block. Buddyfight definitely did have a Crush Block in from August 2015 to January 2016 to expand design space. Despite the DDW hype, it ended up being a pretty subpar deck for a year, despite their powerful mechanics because they were on really weak cards. Didn't get anything viable until Purgatory Knights. You would've hated Kaizerion.
On a more relevant note: I never played much DM or Kaijudo, but I absolutely love the mechanics, and it sucked seeing it so mismanaged so much and get it killed again. If only WOTC was capable of managing a non-MTG card game.
@@Yinyanyeow There is a ton. Neo Pets, Harry Potter, Simpsons and GI Joe off the top of my head for just licensed games, though GI Joe technically isn't licensed since it's a brand from their parent. They had a game engine they used in ARC system, which had Xena and Hercules sets. Then there is all the old Richard Garfield games like Netrunner and Vampire: The Eternal Struggle. Wizards is like a graveyard for failed games.
Duel Masters was so dope. It's still going so hard in Japan I wish I could play. Just got into Kaijudo and it's fun. The only problem about getting into a dead game is the lack of supply of singles at a decent price. RIP Kaijudo and Duel Masters.
It's interesting you mention Crush Block because in another video you talk about sets being too boring and that's why some games die. So how do you recommend being in the middle of a boring set and a crush block?
Duel masters still is my favorite card game, i lose my motivation of continue playing card games with duel masters dead, i try magic, but hasnt the same.
I’m still lost on the relationship between all this media. So is kaijudo the card game the same as dual masters in japan only just the recent decks? And the kaijudo tv show is an American show designed to sell the American version of the tcg?
I'm surprised you haven't made a video talking about Force of Will personally I know they've made mistakes but its my favorite tcg in terms of gameplay its like yugioh & magic had a baby
i know this is a 4 year old video, but you brought up UFS as an example of a game that killed itself, and while you're not entirely *wrong* the game didn't actually die. heck, i demoed the game the past 2 gen cons and play it competitively. game is over a decade old and still going.
Since you are very much a lover of card games, do you by chance play a game called Force of Will? If you are, do you think you could talk about it sometime? I'd love to hear your opinion on it, especially since it's making a big rise to popularity from what I've heard, to the point where there are a bunch of players around my local shop, a place that only had events for Magic for the longest time
+Jackson Bruns (killermagikarp15) What is Force of Will? I see it all the time at my local Toys R Us but it just looks like somebody trying to look like Vanguard.
It's actually not. It's a game is kind of a mix of Magic and Yugioh in the way it plays out. You play cards by using resources, except the resources are an entirely different deck (which is something I've never seen before, but if you have, well, there's that). The art style a bit like Vanguard, but all the monster cards, and some of the spells, all have some kind of connection to different mythologies, Grims Fairytales, and they even have a big box set that has different historical figures, like Napoleon, as females. They have a few different art styles, ranging from anime looking stuff, to something you'd see in a D&D book, though the big box set is....very Japanese. If you do check it out, I suggest starting after the first 5 trial decks, because they have a gimmik that never really took off. It's like playing EDH for Magic a bit, where you have a central card at a separate part of your deck, but what's interesting is the main cards usually have abilities that are "vague" for lack of a better term, in which they can be used by just about any type of deck. Things I've said will make a bit more sense if you look at the rules for the game and such, but overall, I highly recommend it. Also, sorry for making this so long
Klonoahedgehog It's essentially Hentai The Gathering with unoriginal playstyles and rules that are stripped from 3-4 other various popular trading card games
#Kohdok So..... does this mean Duel masters and Kaijudo are the same thing??? Cuz I heard from my friends that in Japan the rules have been updated in cards and rules.
Kaijudo was a reboot of Duel Masters for North America, but Duel Masters is still going on pretty strong in Japan. Unfortunately, they are not at all the same thing, since cards from the two games are incompatible with one another.
Nearly the same. Even English DM was incompatible with Japanese DM since English DM used a modded rule set. English DM changed the Double Breaker rule to break 1 by 1, instead of all at once. Though this is a fairly obscure rule. Kaijudo changes the casting rules. In DM, 1 mana for each card must match, in Kaijudo, you must have 1 in your Mana Zone of that colour. Nearly the same.
The harsh part is the supposed powerful decks of corrupted were not seen in competitive play towards the end of the game even though r&d thought it would win the last tournament. It was actually dragonstrike which was by far the strongest set which invalidated most decks.
"Kaijudo forgot about the Kaijudo code..." That would be a good episode for the animation. Bring shame to current Kaijudo, they forgot the principles! The game got corrupted! Then the main mentor reveals itself as the evil guy.
Actually Darkness Dragon World isn’t as powerful as you think, now it is strong and can destroy a lot of things but it’s defence is almost nonexistent it’s horrid at protecting itself, so once your opponent gets passed your monsters there aren’t many cards that can protect you, and it’s very likely that your opponent will get passed your monsters since Darkness Dragon World monsters tend to have pitiful Defence Stat
"Blue cards are all overpowered"
Yugioh Ritual monsters; "Why do you hate me daddy?"
EDIT; Yes links are blue, but not all blue yugioh cards are links. And YES there have been a couple of good ritual archetypes, but those were short lived until very recently when rituals all got a couple of massive playmakers that were designed to fix ritual monsters with very strong search effects.
Yeeeaaah but links tho
And pendulums are half blue

Huh, I spent most of my life thinking Duel Masters was a parody of card game anime.
A marketing budget well spent, WotC.
I mean, the English dub of the anime 100% was.
I know this video is 4 years old but im only finding it now and need to clarify some things:
You were correct in that Kaijudo introduced a Crush block but it was NOT the set with corrupted in them, it actually came a full year earlier with dragonstrike infernus, a set that was so infamously and admittedly by WOTC themselves undertested, that one set alone is what made WOTC need to implement a set rotation otherwise the game would never get past some of the absurdly powerful cards like herald of infernus, andromeda of the citadel, and lyra the blazing sun to name a few.
Thanks for your talk anf cheers from Germany,

I really miss Duel Masters/Kaijudo. I loved the art style, card design, and all the fun flavor text that most cards had. I also liked it more than the other popular TCGs at the time, Pokemon, YuGiOh, Magic. I wish it would have stuck around.
It's still going btw

The reason Ray was getting away with breaking the rules is because the rules were stupid and wrong.
One of the main rules was to not interact with the creatures. Not to form a bond with them. Ray and his friends were better masters BECAUSE they formed a bond with their creatures. Ray and his friends befriended the creatures while the old masters subjugated theirs. They didn't go as far as the Choten, but they were doing wrong. Over time, the other masters started forming bonds with their creatures. Only one master stayed resolute in his belief that the old rules had to be followed. Guess what, he became a villain.
It was Nigel Brightmore.
I HATED Nigel, and I am sure he died after Season 2. Serves him right.
No joke I loved this show when little and saw every season til the end
It was a good show, definitely underrated.
@@shawnjavery agreed. Wasnt blow your socks off amazing, but it was enjoyable for what it was.

Still gonna watch and like it
Man, I wanna see all the seasons of Duel Masters that were released in Japan. I loved that show as a kid.
To make it worse, they didn't even add a small 10-second blurb at the end of every episode that said "There's a card game for this too, buy some!"
I still remember how, in Kaijudo's final months, a Kaijudo Master Challenge, supposedly the "big tournaments" in the game, had only fifteen players show up.
Nice comment, except you ripped on Yu-Gi-Oh while you were typing so we are done here
It's funny you mention being too young to be enamored by the code.
@@dracoblizzard7944 Thanks for proving my point.
"Oh, he's going to talk about Andromeda... Wait, really, corruption?"

The Kaijudo code.
Kaiju means "Strange Beast" in Japanese not Giant Monster, sorry Kodok.
It is mistranslated in a staggering number of sources, so I cant really fault him for it.
The compounds of the word are "Strange" and "Beast" but the word is used for "Big ass monsters". Like a pineapple isn't a pine apple.
do we have any small kaiju's I should know about?

The mall tour was amazing. I was 15 at the time and couldn't really afford to get a bunch of cards. Some friends and I went to one of the mall tours and I won enough cards to round out my deck and build 3 of my other friends decks. I still have a card and that same binder signed by one of the artists. It was such an awesome event. I have my collection to this day and get such a strong urge to play from time to time but I don't live in Japan anymore and have no one to play with.
I wish duel masters took off. I wish.
It did in Japan.

I know it's still big in Japan. I JUST CAN'T FUCKING PLAY IT CAUSE I CANT READ THAT SHIT AND ITS HARD SO IM SUPER GATED OUT OF IT.
I wish duel masters took off so I could play THIS game.
Kaijudo may have cool monster names but do they have interplanetarypurplythorny dragon
How to i get myself one of those booklet of card sleeves?
I fell in love with Duel Masters too when I found it! But I just had no one to play it with... Now I'm playing MTG.
There are 12 seasons of Duel Masters?! YES! I WANT TO SEE THAT!
Me as well.
This was a very entertaining video!
I looooooved the Kaijudo TV show.
Im happy to see someone other than myself love this game so much. I loved Duel Masters as a kid and still have my card to this day
I had 1 friend in middle school, cory.
He and I played Uno, Duelmaster & Yugioh all the time, man I miss that guy, he was the only one crazy enough to play card games with me.
I loved this game as a kid.
I liked the the Kaijudo TV show, they may have given Tatsurion a bad va but my GAWD the character development hits me where I live.
I wish they would release all the Duel Masters series subbed at least T-T
I want to watch the entire series.
For me, Duelmasters was for me one of my favorite TCG,
but how good was that game?
This game was soo popular that they even got Mc Donalds promotional cards!
It’s too bad the game stucks in some areas that at the very end was their own demise.
I remember finding out that duel masters was still a thing in japan a few years ago when looking up the heroes of the realm promos wizards gives their design leads and seeing one fore duel masters, also finding out that Nicol Bolas and Jace have cards in duel masters was kind of neat
Kaijudo also came out when Magic The Gathering was at its hieght in popularity too.
I loved og Duel masters it formed my sense of comedy
I too enjoyed the Kaijudo TV series, and agree 100% with you.
You had to mention that TRAITOR Brightmore.
He and the Choten deserve their fall.
I’ve only heard of it cause I ordered a Magic Card once and it came with a Kaijudo sleeve, I used it for my Commander so I wouldn’t accidentally shuffle it into my deck
Duel masters is still going on in Japan
Are you gonna make a seperate video for WiXOSS as well? o.o I might look into Jewel Pet. I loved the original Duel Masters. :)
We ever gonna delve into Chaotic or Seventh Sea? :u
+KaijudoGirl Lacy Did it crush the game's curve like I'd proposed before?
Now that you mention it, I used Belua in my Dorado deck.
I remember it well. It had a decent run here in the UK but was basically dead by the late-00s.
Why does that book above the kaijudo box look censored?
Your talk about Dark Dragon World made me remember why I left Vanguard. They released a clan called Link Joker whose mechanic was to basically make cards on your side of the field not exist but you also couldn't replace those cards or use their abilities. They had the ability to make it so that you couldn't attack with anything but your powered down Vanguard quite easily.
Silver Fang then they release Messiah so you can counter your own clan. Bushiroad loves to be counterintuitive
I literally wanna move to Japan just to play Duel Masters competitively again
I really loved that show
on UFS, it is still alive and super good right now. rotation is still a thing (every 10 sets) were the newest set replace the oldest set. but well worth a new look
There is still a photo of me on my local card games website from when I won the Kaijudo release event I still have my prize card never played it
Where did you get that foldable card binder. It’s awesome
That Kaijudo code is cool.
Kaijudo can be summed up to one card for me,... "Bottle of wishes"
So just thinking out loud. Didn't duel Masters pick up in Japan because magic flopped so there wasn't a case of cannibalizing their own sales, in addition to the whole "magic lite" not being an issue with no magic as a reference point?
Is there any way so I can play Duel masters online? I really miss the card game
there is a official mobile game Duel master plays
@@kwokwailok8524 Is it in english? as far as I know is only japanese
There's OCTGN, which is one of the most widely-played versions of DM online.
Wait... You're in DFW? I'm in North Dallas
I remember back in the day I got 5 free decks for each of the colours. Then I played it for like 3 months 😂😂
Duel masters was amazing. I wish it was still going here. My biggest gripe was the imbalance of pure colored decks. Poor Nature.
duel masters is still dead but at least ive got the ps2 game, i loved this game.
The gameboy advance games were my favorite. Beating up people to get booster packs from them like in pokemon card game. I want more card games like that. Ya sure its weird someone walking around with booster packs in their pants but i get to try new cards, sell card and just can have fun making decks.
duel masters was my favourite game at the age of like 5-8 and rn im just buying packs for nostalgia, really upset its ended (again!)
I love that code.
The wallet where you are keeping the duel masters cards in. What is it called or where can you get them?
What are those two boxes on the right behind the kaijudo box?
I STILL WANT AN ACTION FIGURE OF ARMORED BLASTER VALDIOS
I miss Kaijudo. I got into it pretty late and it was already on it's way out... I wish a company would do a similar game or even go digital. 🤷🏾♂️
well I think you should do a talk on bakugan to explain everything to people that are new to the game
You should talk about card wars
I loved the action figures as a kid.
wow..... I never heared of this
I was honestly surprised DDW was what you called Buddyfight's Crush Block. Buddyfight definitely did have a Crush Block in from August 2015 to January 2016 to expand design space.
Despite the DDW hype, it ended up being a pretty subpar deck for a year, despite their powerful mechanics because they were on really weak cards. Didn't get anything viable until
Purgatory Knights.
You would've hated Kaizerion.
On a more relevant note: I never played much DM or Kaijudo, but I absolutely love the mechanics, and it sucked seeing it so mismanaged so much and get it killed again.
If only WOTC was capable of managing a non-MTG card game.
How many have they done? [And I can guess 2 at least.]
I know I'm commenting on 4 almost 5 year old comment, but what do you think of lost world from ACE?
Kohdok what do you use to edit?
PS I have watching since redakai;Love your videos!
I loved kaijudo
Duel masters still is my favorite card game, i lose my motivation of continue playing card games with duel masters dead, i try magic, but hasnt the same.
Kaiju means Strange Beast Dai Kaiju means Large Strange Beast
Did u know Wixoss actually r making by the same company as the duel master?
I do. There's a Wixoss Bolshack Dragon.
And Optimus Prime.
Braden Woods thanks a ton for the fact, honestly growing up it became confusing to pretty much say if it’s the same or not.
Rey the Mary Sue, who ever heard of such a thing?
The harsh part is the supposed powerful decks of corrupted were not seen in competitive play towards the end of the game even though r&d thought it would win the last tournament. It was actually dragonstrike which was by far the strongest set which invalidated most decks.
"Kaijudo forgot about the Kaijudo code..."
That would be a good episode for the animation.
Nice video.
