    Thank you so much for this video. I just bought the 4212 and ws catching it with the worm until I found your video. You know how we hate to read the instructions LOL. Everything went fine after seeing you assemble it and making the adjustments. The laser was dead on but had to level the shelf. Once again, thank you so much

Thanks to this video, I took my drill press out of the box and put it together. This was a great 14 minute manual. Friend, the slots on the base are more for mounting a drill press vice or other jigs and fixtures. When you need more space to drill something because of its size you just move the table out of the way and use these "T-slots" to fasten the work piece at this lower position. The two holes in the base back near the post are for mounting the drill press to the bench. You shouldn't use those slot for mounting the drill press as you could crack the base very easily. Thanks for giving such a detailed look at this WEN product. Great information.

  • @dubsbarry9963
    @dubsbarry9963 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I didn't look at all the comments so I'm not sure if someone's already mentioned this - but the T Slots on the base should not be used for attaching the machine to the bench. The cast iron base is not made to handle pressure of that type, and there's a cavity underneath. Tightening the nuts will crack your cast iron base.
    The T Slots are designed to be used for jigs and fixtures. The upper table can be pivoted out of the way to make room for taller items that need drilling. The items are clamped to the slots, or to the installed jig/ fixture below, and drilled as necessary.
    Even with the true base-mounting holes, the round ones, i would advise placing a scrap of wood or some kind of bearing underneath to prevent overtightening and cracking the base. My WEN 4214T doesn't have support under the mounting holes and i watched the base start bowing. Glad it didn't crack. Using the T slots for a sliding mount is a very common misconception but after doing research and reading about cracked bases, the consensus is, "I wouldn't do that if I were you"
    Great video btw! To the point, clear and concise. Thanks.

    After assembly, I noticed that the bit is slightly closer to me than the table, which barely doesn't allow the 3/4 spade to go through.
    It's almost as if the table is like an 1/8" too close to the column.
    Any thoughts?

    • @SevenFortyOne
      @SevenFortyOne  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There may be some alignment you can do but the bit doesn't necessarily have to go through the hole. You can get a drill press vice or use scrap under the piece you are drilling

    At 5:48 those keyhole slots are for accessories and large work pieces not the mounting of the drill press , the holes directly behind the keyhole slots are mounting holes, also the laser unit uses AA not AAA batteries , other than that awesome video loved it and gave a big thumbs up , maybe go back at some point and put thread locker on all the set screws and the engagement handles.

    Good vid. I own a Wen 10 after returning a Wen 8. Do yourself a big favor. Take a real good comparison look before settling for the 8. You get SO MUCH more for the 30-50 dollars difference (depending on when you but) that it's almost self-abuse to not buy the 10. More powerful motor can legitimately drill metal. Bigger table. Longer drill travel. The rack and pinion elevator was THE reason I switched to the 10, and would have paid 50 busks more for just that, it is just TOO awkward to adjust with out it. There is much more. If you're down to your last 80-90 bucks, you're probably not buying a drill press anyway. Spend the extra few.

      Price. The 4212 is another nearly.50% more then this one. The 8" press is nearly.50% less then this one. You can always buy bigger and better, but eventually you need to set a price limit. Buying this, plus a drill press vice and other attachments puts you at a better unit for versatility then the 4212 at the same price.
