I see the rainbow effect (only visible for 1%) on oled/amoled displays like the one on the X or the Apple Watch. Can’t look at those screens for a longer period of time because their frequency is irritating my eyes. So lcd with led backlight is my “destiny”. Lucky me apple put that in the iPhone XR. I do not have the luxury to complain about ppi. I’m absolutely fine with the LG Screen in the iPhones/iPads.

I’m stuck on Apple because of this channel. Lou said don’t be a fanboy. Be a fan of tech. Try other brands. So I tried iPhone when the 5s came out. Still prefer it to other options. But now I have an Apple Watch. Kinda hard to not stay with Apple. They have handicapped this phone so hard. It should be under $500.

Having the same pixels per inch is not the same as having same resolution. The XR has significantly higher resolution because it’s a larger device the density of pixels have remained same.

I bought my XR in 2020 for $530 and now it's 2024 and it still works great. The battery is now at 87% health but it still holds up. The LCD screen helps the battery last longer. I don't mind that it doesn't have oled display.

TheLolinatorYT it's not just the ppi but also the resolution. Like the 11 had an 820p screen. While other phones at the price range are at like twice that or even higher. Before the 11 I had a 200 dollar Android and even that had a 1080p screen and 400 something ppi with a 5.5 inch display. I realized this after I got it and I felt almost cheated at the fact after tax this phone was almost 800 dollars. At price 1080 should be the bare minimum standard since most apps run 1080 resolution and the fact that the screen can't even display its own camera photos at full quality

Yea it had the same ppi as iPhone 4 but it also had the same ppi as iPhone 8 lol. 9/10 would not be able to tell the difference anyway and it was a cheaper iPhone with almost the same specs as the top dog. The XR has aged incredibly well because Apple knows that there is more to a display than pure resolution. Color accuracy, brightness, viewing angles all matter as well. And the XR did all of that very well

It's almost have been a year since I bought my XR, I LOVE it guys. If you are looking for a low budget and high performance smartphone, buy it. Maybe it's a disaster for the tech reviewers and developers but personally I think it's very user-friendly and a nice looking phone. Also you can't watch 1080p or 4k vids "technically," even though you can shoot 4k vids.
I got mine for $570, that’s I guess budget for a iPhone nowadays. (I traded in a 7+ that I bought off eBay (only needed screen replacement) And they took it so no complaints here. (If it wasn’t cracked I’d probably get like another $100 off)

Although I am an Apple fan and I own the iPhone 12 that little piece of information is not lost on me. I can't say I'm one or the other as far Apple or android. I have owned both. With Apple I like their ecosystem and the fact that I can own my phone for at least 2 to 5 years, yes I'm one of those people and I get updates for that long. With android the updates are terrible and that is one of the biggest reasons why I have never fully switched. I would love to hear your stance on that. Don't forget the Amnesty International report for the working conditions in China at the Foxconn factories. Each year consistently Apple gets (technically Foxconn, but Apple is the one who chose to parter with them) the reward of "worst working conditions" in the factories where the iPhones are being assembled. It's all part of their "spend the least possible and ask the highest price possible" mentality. No wonder they take something like 50% of the global smartphone profits while only holding 15% market share world wide.

TBH All steve jobs was good at was marketing. Not that there is anything wrong with it but they should stop with all the BS about them being market leaders in innovation. People have finally stopped buying into their extensive marketing campaign and started seeing them for what they are. The sad part is that they are seeing 1 trillion $ too late.
That's not entirely true. In terms of software, they really are innovators, especially in the world of productivity. The way their products seamlessly connect with one another and their ecosystem make them innovators. They might not be in the sense of hardware. But most people know, it's the software which really makes them stand out. Having an ECG on a WATCH, or being able to collab on work so easily is amazing. They don't need to rush out to re-invent the wheel. However, I do agree that they don't have an excuse for not bumping up the pixels, as that was almost certainly a decision to draw comparisons from budget to premium. Sad. But they are a busniess.
He definitely helped them out of the mess they were in by the late 90s but he's also responsible for transitioning their focus away from providing the best computers for designers, photographers, artists, musicians, education, etc. and towards providing premium portable gadgets for the masses. They hardly put any effort into maintaining a desktop or all-in-one line anymore and their laptops are similarly not as powerful as they could be, instead just pricing them higher to make them even more of a premium brand like they're trying to go from Nike to Gucci. This trajectory has gotten even worse under Tim Cook. They are almost nothing like the Apple of the 80s to early 00s (they were still pricier than PCs then and were stubborn about requiring their proprietary cables, but it seems even worse now).

Can’t look at those screens for a longer period of time because their frequency is irritating my eyes. So lcd with led backlight is my “destiny”. Lucky me apple put that in the iPhone XR. I do not have the luxury to complain about ppi. I’m absolutely fine with the LG Screen in the iPhones/iPads.

Having the same pixels per inch is not the same as having same resolution. The XR has significantly higher resolution because it’s a larger device the density of pixels have remained same.

I bought my XR in 2020 for $530 and now it's 2024 and it still works great. The battery is now at 87% health but it still holds up. The LCD screen helps the battery last longer. I don't mind that it doesn't have oled display.

Before the 11 I had a 200 dollar Android and even that had a 1080p screen and 400 something ppi with a 5.5 inch display. I realized this after I got it and I felt almost cheated at the fact after tax this phone was almost 800 dollars. At price 1080 should be the bare minimum standard since most apps run 1080 resolution and the fact that the screen can't even display its own camera photos at full quality

Yea it had the same ppi as iPhone 4 but it also had the same ppi as iPhone 8 lol. 9/10 would not be able to tell the difference anyway and it was a cheaper iPhone with almost the same specs as the top dog. The XR has aged incredibly well because Apple knows that there is more to a display than pure resolution. Color accuracy, brightness, viewing angles all matter as well. And the XR did all of that very well

It's almost have been a year since I bought my XR, I LOVE it guys. If you are looking for a low budget and high performance smartphone, buy it. Maybe it's a disaster for the tech reviewers and developers but personally I think it's very user-friendly and a nice looking phone. Also you can't watch 1080p or 4k vids "technically," even though you can shoot 4k vids.

Just now came across this video to years later and I definitely hear you, I really do. You are not the first techie that has talked about how Apple tends to hold things back as far as technology. Although I am an Apple fan and I own the iPhone 12 that little piece of information is not lost on me. I can't say I'm one or the other as far Apple or android. I have owned both. With Apple I like their ecosystem and the fact that I can own my phone for at least 2 to 5 years, yes I'm one of those people and I get updates for that long. With android the updates are terrible and that is one of the biggest reasons why I have never fully switched. I would love to hear your stance on that. Now with you techies it doesn't matter because you're constantly getting new phones, new technology all the time but The average consumer does not do that and typically keeps their phones for a while. In other words I can't afford to be switching my phone out yearly or every two years and I like the fact that I get updates on my Apple for a long time to come, which means the newest stuff in the App Store, etc. or any other cool features. Does anyone have an opinion on this? I would love to know what people think, especially android users.

TBH All steve jobs was good at was marketing. Not that there is anything wrong with it but they should stop with all the BS about them being market leaders in innovation. People have finally stopped buying into their extensive marketing campaign and started seeing them for what they are. The sad part is that they are seeing 1 trillion $ too late.
That's not entirely true. In terms of software, they really are innovators, especially in the world of productivity. The way their products seamlessly connect with one another and their ecosystem make them innovators. They might not be in the sense of hardware. But most people know, it's the software which really makes them stand out. Having an ECG on a WATCH, or being able to collab on work so easily is amazing. They don't need to rush out to re-invent the wheel. However, I do agree that they don't have an excuse for not bumping up the pixels, as that was almost certainly a decision to draw comparisons from budget to premium. Sad. But they are a busniess.
He definitely helped them out of the mess they were in by the late 90s but he's also responsible for transitioning their focus away from providing the best computers for designers, photographers, artists, musicians, education, etc. and towards providing premium portable gadgets for the masses. They hardly put any effort into maintaining a desktop or all-in-one line anymore and their laptops are similarly not as powerful as they could be, instead just pricing them higher to make them even more of a premium brand like they're trying to go from Nike to Gucci. This trajectory has gotten even worse under Tim Cook. They are almost nothing like the Apple of the 80s to early 00s (they were still pricier than PCs then and were stubborn about requiring their proprietary cables, but it seems even worse now).
Today after almost 3 years, I'm much happy with my iPhone XR.

Lew, understand this: 1) Apple did not decide on the resolution of the XR. The market did. Apple simply optimised the offering according to what the market wanted and was prepared to pay for. 2) Companies are NOT nice, they are NOT "your friend", and they don't have any sort of moral obligation to offer you anything. Was Apple to decide to offer the XR with a resolution even worse than this one, AND price twice as much, that would be fair. Why? Because Apple is not obliging anyone to buy their devices.

Ironic how apple preaches about moving the industry forward like with removing the headphone jack, yet they refuse to upgrade the screens of their phones themselves. They're using Samsung panels on their phones with OLED, the iPhone 7 and 8 plus are the only 1080p, and the 7 and 8 are hardly above 720p. Now this new iPhone isn't even capable of 1080p video streaming, yet you can supposedly capture video in 4k. What's the point of having a great camera if you can't view your pictures in a high resolution?

In 2013/2014 you had the S4 and Note 3, but then S5 came out. Even though S5 had some pros, the Note 3 still held its own.
