I think that standing desk company missed out big time by not sponsoring you and supporting the creative mindset. You continue to amaze with your out of the box thinking and exection. Great video and idea!
He might have been better trying a different company, pretty sure Matthias Wandel has had some sponsored standing desk videos where he cut up or otherwise modified their desks...
This could have turned into a partnership on a new line of furniture for the company that largely used products they already produce. Major missed chance for them.
Yes, the Alexa part was hilarious, especially because we named our "Computer" so as soon as you started in she started responding! This project turned out great and has given me some ideas for my own storage issues. Thank you!
Great build. The SimpliSafe ad picture-in-picture is absolutely genius as well. That's the best integration of a sponsor I've ever seen without it being smackdab in my face!
It's great if you have a 3D Printer. Otherwise I just wouldn't bother, you can only see the first leg when it's up. Love that the desk structure is hidden behind the wood. I personally would prefer a switch to physically push in reach. Or maybe a voice system activation not reliant on Amazon? There must be a computer scientist working on that 🤔🤗
I'm watching your videos occasionaly and I have to say your way to implement the sponsorships is the best I've seen ever. And I mean EVER. To show your progress and talk over it is just *chefs kiss* so I can concentrate on the build and don't have to skip a minute of the video! Please make this the gold Standard!
I really hope this will get at least half a million views in the first 24 hours. It's a great build. Amazing out of the box idea, and has the best outro. You are an inspiration to all of us. Greetings from Greece.
Wow. I had to move a radiator aside to make space for... whatever, I ended up having the same setup you have: useless space between the couch and the wall. Been thinking about it a week ago waiting for a good idea to come; -and here we go, your video just pops up in my feed. Awesome. Bonus like for the RickRoll!
*sing out loud* NEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP... Very cool project. I like the part where you control the cabinets with your amazon device.. Especially the little Star Trek reference ;) NEVER GONNA LET YOU DOWN *continue singing*
This is really cool, Bob. Interesting that the company wasn't interested in the sponsorship deal with you. I feel like it's actually a bigger selling point that they can be modified… perhaps some sort of liability as far as modifying the feet and whatnot, but still… better selling point, in my opinion. Nice one!
I get so excited every time you post a new video. You inspire me to find joy in making and creating and I love all the details you put in. It does not go unnoticed ❤
I can see why the manufacturer would be reluctant to sponsor this. Cutting the feet short would make the units less stable in regular use, and someone who didn't know what they were doing could make a desk or table that would then tip over on someone and cause an injury - or worse. But given the location of these units, that's obviously not a problem - they can't fall over with the couch in front of them! If you were putting them somewhere that it was a concern, I guess you'd think about bolting the feet to the floor. Nice work, and nice to see what these units are good for. Thank you for sharing!
Very agreeable styling.. Points for behind couch headrest drinks and lamp vending, and additional points for the raised sections.. Let the fine wine sipping commence..
Very cool solution, Bob-keep up the good work!! I can use something similar but scaled down. I might just stick with the behind-the-couch table with plugs, lights, etc.
Such a cool idea! I’m thinking of making a 4ft square mobile workbench for my table saw and thicknesser. This might work really well to have the thicknesser raise up from under the table saw outfeed part! Could be a great option for benchtop tool storage so you don’t need to lift them out from under a bench, or even have to clear off the top of your bench first!
I built a behind the couch storage for my TV. Same principle except much thinner. I think its 8" or maybe 10" deep. Mine isn't voice controlled (yet), and I'm thinking of building one a little bigger for a larger TV. You've given me some new ideas! thanks
You Rick Rollin SOB!🤣 Great idea and nice overall presentation. I’ve been thinking about the slim table behind the couch for a while now but this application is such a practical use of space! Love it!
I love the music in your videos so much that I feel like I've memorized your playlist by now. But I can tell those funky tracks at the end of the video seem new! They sound great.
You literally preemptively read my thoughts from last night. What kind of a wizard are you? We live in a 1930s town home that's 800 square feet and are huge board game nerds and need more space to store them. Last night I was wondering if we could transform our custom selfmade behind the couch table into storage. This is fantastic, thank you!
Good stuff I was recently concepting something like the 3d printer setup you showed of your friend but then for the resin printer with a form of suction system so the fumes don't kill me. very nice to see these sit stand legs being used in more creative ways !
This is a really cool project. I think I might have a use for it in my home. I really like how the standing desk can be used as a Hideaway bookshelf; I never thought of that. Somehow, I missed the Andy Klein video. Great project; thanks for sharing that!
Man this whole thing is really tempting to do in my own living room. We're not pressed for space but we are pressed for wall space/storage space. Super neat idea. It also gives me the idea of doing something similar with the back half of a counter/workspace, and you could use some motors coiling up airline wire to lift it off the ground.
Didn't even see what you were building. I saw your logo and clicked the video. Not disappointed. The same system could be us for a lot of stuff you don't want visible all the time.
Clicked on this video because the thumbnail is actually the exact storage solution I imagined years ago for my dream house. Unfortunately, I'm no engineer, so I could never figure out how to make it work. I'm glad someone finally made it a reality.
Fantastic work, Bob! It turned out amazing!!! 😃 As a Star Trek fan, the "computer" name is more than approved! (And I'm a Star Wars fan as well, but... Let's not talk about it right now...) Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
That is so cool. I kind of want to build one of those too now. Definitely better than some of the traditional storage options, and a great compromise between looks and functionality
I absolutely love this idea! Not sure how I'm going to implement a similar setup in my living room, but I definitely want to! And I definitely loved the fact I'm a Google house at the end, lol!
I've been brainstorming something like this, but it needs to go in the corner behind our sectional. I didn't think about the desk legs, so I think this idea may come to life finally!
would have been better to say" Alexa, play Christmas music at 4:30 am December 25th" or,. to play spooky horror music halloween morning. ;) See how many people catch it or end up walking up to music very early
A thing i did is to put a table or ledge behind my couch. Like just 5 inches wide sitting there to put stuff. Over the 2.8 metres the middle 2m have been routed out and covered with plexi glass with an led strip underneath for indirect lighting on the wall. I thinks this could also be a nice addition to something like this.
I've always thought that behind-the-couch tables (to say nothing of amazing motorized storage like you've built) is a huge gap in the furniture industry. Furniture stores should offer a matching BtC table to every couch. Honestly, in most cases a simple 6-8 inch wide table would do for drinks, snacks, and maybe a knick-knack or two. Adding outlets on higher-end models, and then hidden storage of one type or another on even more deluxe offerings. Anyway, great video!
Super cool project. Let's be real, you're not going to change the name back from Computer, because that's rad. Nice shout out to Dave with the Wood Spirits. Thanks for sharing!
Woah I havent seen one of your videos in so long... Seeing those wisdom hairs made me feel like I'M the one getting old. Great to have you back on my feed bob.
This is honestly the first time I've ever seen someone cut down one of those lifts and use it like this. Love the idea as making them tables behind the couch. The ending was hilarious!
Such a cool idea. Definitely need a big living space to pull it off, and still be cost effective. I want something similar for behind my couch but only got about 100-150mm to play with (also known as 4-6 walnuts for the uncivilised of people)
Such an inspiration, taking Andy's idea to a different level! I wonder how long it will be before the table manufacturer starts selling lifting cabinets. Haha
LOL, that ending Bob.... nice. Thankfully, it didn't set mine off! I am going to tuck that idea away for the future :) Love how the project came out. I really thought the sponsor was going to be FlexiSpot! But I guess that makes sense, if you're going to cut up their hardware.
Very cool idea! I'm in the same boat with boards games and consoles. Luckily though I have the space but still wouldn't mind making this just for the cool factor alone.
Oh you rascal... Glad i dont have a smart-device at home. Joke aside, im really surprised that the company wouldnt sponsor you on this considering you're showing off their products under a new light and essentially showing how modular it also is. Great idea none the less, super practical and actually saves a lot of shelf space that normally would've needed a proper closet or shelving unit.
I've wanted to build the very same thing but in slightly smaller scale!! Haven't found anything similar before seeing this video. Any ideas what would be cheaper (and easier) option to replace the lift mechanisms with? I've thought about gas springs, but I dunno...
Loving the look of these, I’d like them just the depth of a normal sofa shelf which would be about the depth of a book or game cartridge/disc case. As such I’ll be hunting for some actuators to do it with! 😂
Are you running the wires from game consoles in the stand to the projector, or do you have to remove them to plug them in? Watching this I was thinking it’s a pro move to have the old consoles with corded controllers behind the couch so you don’t have to worry about controller cord length. IF you can manage to cords somehow. Any ideas of how you do that, or switch between so many RCA without unplugging/replugging is greatly appreciated. Great video!
Hey, love the content you make, really good stuff 👍🏻 My only concern is that I wish you'd protect yourself too, safety glasses at least when cutting stuff with the table saw. Maybe even hearing protection. Thank you and take care! ❤
Don't ya think that sponsors would be great-full regardless of what your doing with their product. For your intention for example, making what you have done in the video is absolutely top notch. So what if you didn't use it for a table. loved the video, Loved the idea and has also given me a few idea's to toy around with. Thank you.
I watched this video yesterday then listened to the podcast where you were talking about it. Was neat to hear some of the inside stuff that went witht he video.

So...Star Trek nerd alert! 😂
more video of you using power tools with no hearing or eye protection
The thumbnail from the side, angled, goes much harder than the other one.
I have this feeling, far away a CEO is running into a boardroom yelling "GUYS! I GOT A GREAT IDEA!" and we'll see your idea in their catalog soon.
Great, thanks
That Alexa part was hilarious!
Bob is hilarious 😂
the jokes on you. i like that song
Hahah agreed - that was a good touch
It had to be done! But for some reason it didn't trigger my device that sits just 4 feet away!
Too bad MY Alex device’s wake word is computer. So it didn’t know how to play a board game. LOL
Cool finish bro.
I caught that product placement
Mini podcast collab
@@ConnorHolland They love that.
You forgot to add "at volume 10" at the end there so Alexa plays it mind-splittingly loud and she can't hear your commands to STOP. 😂😂😂
alexa actually has a secret volume 11 if you ask haha
I think that standing desk company missed out big time by not sponsoring you and supporting the creative mindset. You continue to amaze with your out of the box thinking and exection. Great video and idea!
Totally agree with you
He might have been better trying a different company, pretty sure Matthias Wandel has had some sponsored standing desk videos where he cut up or otherwise modified their desks...

Epic Rick roll at the end lol! Also an awesome project, turned out amazing!
I’ve said this before…You’re nailing it with the sponsor portion. Your videos are the only ones that I don’t FF.
Hey another Texas man!
@ IYKYK. I’m asked all the time “Is there a round rock?”
I thought the same thing! To continue seeing progress while the sponsored content is only picture in picture is sweet
Great build. The SimpliSafe ad picture-in-picture is absolutely genius as well. That's the best integration of a sponsor I've ever seen without it being smackdab in my face!
Agreed. Bob handles the sponsor integration great! It's one of the few ad reads I don't skip through.
He's done ads like this for a long time now and it's probably my favorite way to view ads, I'm glad he's kept doing it
The quick edit of modeling/3d printing the leg end caps was stellar, great job Forby/Bob!
It's great if you have a 3D Printer. Otherwise I just wouldn't bother, you can only see the first leg when it's up.
Love that the desk structure is hidden behind the wood.
I personally would prefer a switch to physically push in reach.

Also congrats on ten years doing the Making it podcast! I've listened since the start and i really enjoy it!
I really hope this will get at least half a million views in the first 24 hours. It's a great build. Amazing out of the box idea, and has the best outro.
You are an inspiration to all of us.
Greetings from Greece.
The ideas you stumple across watching other makers are just amazing! Brilliant build.

One of my favorites you've done in a while. Love the ingenuity
I've been excited about this ever since I heard you talking about it on the podcast. What a great build!!

Haha! Nice work on the Rickroll! Mine isn't called Alexa in my office. I renamed it a while ago for just that reason. Cool idea on the storage.
This is so amazing. I'm going to add this towards the top of my project list. Great work! 👍
Good stuff I was recently concepting something like the 3d printer setup you showed of your friend but then for the resin printer with a form of suction system so the fumes don't kill me. very nice to see these sit stand legs being used in more creative ways !

4:48 look through your camera? oooo😮
I stopped listening after that.
Get a local storage camera!
I have a sit/stand desk at work. Never going back! Love your vintage video game systems!
I've been brainstorming something like this, but it needs to go in the corner behind our sectional. I didn't think about the desk legs, so I think this idea may come to life finally!

Love it! I've had this same idea for a while and, as you mentioned, the budget holds it back. Maybe some Black Friday deals will help it along?

Super cool project. Let's be real, you're not going to change the name back from Computer, because that's rad. Nice shout out to Dave with the Wood Spirits. Thanks for sharing!
Man, it's awesome! Simple but great idea, perfect implementation, and really cool result!

Great idea. Finish project looks great. I bet the manufacturer will be releasing something similar in the near future.
Cool project! Thanks for sharing!

Definitely going to start watching for deals on some standing desk modules in the future because this is a great idea!
Great build. I'd love to see what you did with cord management with all the consoles, though. How are they connected to the projector?
Like it‼️ Especially the voice control.
Fantastic build. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍
Such an inspiration, taking Andy's idea to a different level!

Woooow i love this project and the editing!! Great job bob! This give me so many ideas🎉🎉

I have never wanted a thing youve made more! Such a great idea!
Great project Bob! One of my favourites now
Great project! Nice job, Bob, as always.
One of your coolest projects ever. Greetings from Germany
This is an awesome use of standing desk hardware. Kudos

Well they really missed out on sponsoring a really cool video!!! Man what a great project!!! The ending was epic!!
Hey, love the content you make, really good stuff 👍🏻
My only concern is that I wish you'd protect yourself too, safety glasses at least when cutting stuff with the table saw. Maybe even hearing protection.
Thank you and take care! ❤
That. Was. Awesome! It seriously is beautiful just as a top. Then cool when it’s lifted.
Was the finish David’s finish?? It’s really pretty!
Don't ya think that sponsors would be great-full regardless of what your doing with their product. For your intention for example, making what you have done in the video is absolutely top notch. So what if you didn't use it for a table. loved the video, Loved the idea and has also given me a few idea's to toy around with. Thank you.
this is soooo cool! Well done! Sometimes you can find good butcher block at a local habitat for humanity store
Ok, this is awesome. Love what you did. Great job.
My eyes bugged out of my head when you made us think that we were about to get Rick Rolled. 👀 COMPUTER...........very Star Treky, and VERY COOL!!!!!!
This is genius, definitely has me thinking on ways I could use this around my house
I watched this video yesterday then listened to the podcast where you were talking about it. Was neat to hear some of the inside stuff that went witht he video.
This is genius. Thx Andy Klein for inspiring Bob
Very very very cool project !!! ❤
What standing desk did you use, more importantly was it an Ethernet plug connecting it to the controller? Just want to make sure I get the correct type of desk platform.
I really love this design & build!
Very nice build! I’m curieus how you managed the wiring for the game consoles? Is everything connected to one screen? And how you switch between them?
This is a great idea! i actually have a space that this would be perfect for due to my houses weird layout, im gonna have to give this a go myself
Curse your Rick Roll! 😅 Great video.
