    The cam bolts on my daughter's old northern-Pennsylvanian High Yoon Day were frozen solid. The alignment guy hosed it down with Thrust; I soaked it with PB Blaster every other day for three weeks. My kid took it back to the alignment guy and the bolts were no longer stuck. 😎

    • @SouthMainAuto
      @SouthMainAuto  ปีที่แล้ว +25

      @@dopeman420 So your telling me when you loosen the cam bolt (so you don't tear the bushing prying the arm down) you can install a new spring which changes the ride height and you won't need to reset the toe? You must know something I don't.

    • @tsjeriAu
      @tsjeriAu ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I've started doing some of my own repairs on my car (latest changed brake pads and cleaned out and greased the calipers and stuff), but there's no way in hell I'll be doing my own spring work. There's a metric shitton of force in those suckers and I don't want to have it unload on me. Will gladly take it to the shop for it.
      Few years ago one of my front springs snapped (why do the roads need to much salt...) and my go-to shop replaced both springs quickly and cheaply.

What does ride height have anything to do with changing a spring??? Lower the jack n tighten the sucker.. your way isn't the only way. Keep it simple. Your a shop so of course your going to get hours in on the job to get paid. Half of what you did simply is not Necessary!!!

    You asked us a few weeks ago what we wanted to see in your videos in the future. I find some of your fellow auto fixers far to intense and complicated for me and give me brain ache after 10 mins. Your videos on the other hand have just the right amount of high tech troubleshooting that the man at home can still do. But most of all Mr O its the humour. For those of us across the pond your humour is priceless, please don't ever change that whatever direction you decide to go in. Nice to see the lovely Mrs O from time to time too.

    Mr. O, I have a 2005 Toyota Sequoia that has a ton of sentimental value... I bought it new in '05 when my oldest was four and my youngest wasn't around yet. I raised my family in that truck. Other than the paint (which I'm going to do myself), it is in pretty good condition for a truck of its age. Yeah, it does need some suspension parts and other things, but I just don't trust anyone around here to do the work on it.
    The truck spent the first four years of its life in the rust belt (where I sprayed off the underside twice a week), then the rest of its life in the desert. Very low rust.
    I'm gonna be retiring in four years, and I think the very first trip my wife and I will take is a cross country from the desert southwest to New York. We'll plan on spending a few weeks there, so you have plenty of time to go through my old truck with a fine tooth comb and repair/replace anything she needs to go another 20 years. I don't care if the bill ends up being several times what the book value on it is; this truck will be used as my tomb stone. : ) She's become a member of my family. The only thing I'll ask is that you use genuine OEM Toyota parts. Other than that, do what needs to be done.
    Can't wait for the day when I can call you up and book her into your shop. I'm sure New Yawk will have plenty of things to keep me and the missus busy for the weeks that you have her in.

    (Pro Tip) don't put the Car too far forward on the Hoist!
    Back when I was a 'young chap' we didn't have 'Tranny Jacks' so we had to use Floor Jacks & a lump of 4"x4" & whilst trying to get a Rear Ball joint back in, each pump of the jack would get me a little closer but didn't realise the weight had also come off of the rear arms of the 2 post hoist(ours was the kind with the 'slip joints that you squeezed together to adjust but the springs were stuffed).
    Consequently the car did a big sideways shuffle & partly came off the Hoist (thankfully it was a Race Car) one hell of a pucker moment let me tell you!

    Having to cut out eccentric bolts reminds me of the front lower arm recall Mazda had on the Rx8’s. The recall came out about 9 years after the car was launched. Those stupid slotted eccentric bolts never came out, always had to cut them with the sawz-all
