Love how your point of view is compassionate to the humans who are suffering from greed. Great video! I suppose the next step would be looking at what causes these insecurities? Is it the lack of community and trust, and the "every dog for him/herself mindset? And because of that, is it because that's what people on popular media (which does not require too much brainpower to process) do? Certainly more digging to do there. Here’s the true definition of what greed is and it’s applicable to anything and everything: “If you’re not enough without it? (Money Power or Fame or anything else you wanted in your life)...You’ll NEVER BE ENOUGH with it”
Greed, as you noted, is the outward manifestation of an inner deficit. Yet you do not elaborate on what that is. Poverty is not lack of money, but, more likely, a lack of a solid spiritual/emotional foundation. So it would be informative to hear your thoughts on what you described as the deep, unmet emotional needs that are the cornerstones of greed and other dysfunctional beliefs.
You're right, perhaps I should have elaborated on that. In brief, I find that what people mainly need is to feel connected - to the denied parts of themselves, to the people around them and to the natural world. That, to me, is the essence of spirituality, which results to a true sense of completeness that no amount of money can buy.
I agree with you. There are unmet spiritual needs that since they are not experienced by these people, lead them to look elsewhere to satisfy these spiritual needs because to people who are not experienced in distinquishing between our physical, spiritual and emotional needs, these spiritual needs are vague to them. I believe they just don't know they have these spiritual needs because they are very physically orientated. I know this because I observe people around me and see that most people don't realize that they have spiritual needs and if you do, wolf sittler, then you are truly blessed.
Would it then follow that a lack of connection, or completeness is rooted in lack of self love? It seems that endless greed is related to the feeling/thought that “ I am not enough” or not good enough.......therefore I need more. But, as another writer noted, that need is beyond awareness and gets translated into the illusion that something material will satisfy a non-material need.
You could say that. However, that lack of self-love results from a misunderstanding of the nature of the self. If you want to dive deep into this subject, I'd highly recommend you to read the book Lack and Transcendence by David Loy.
Your remark above, "Poverty is not lack of money, but, more likely, a lack of a solid spiritual/emotional foundation" seems to me to be a hasty generalization. While a lack of foundation may accompany poverty because it is often characterized by a state of perpetual desperation, I don't feel that is either an accurate or fair evaluation. Indeed, that is an area many poor people are very rich in. There can be a real danger in labeling others and it's important to go lightly when doing so.
I agree that hating people who have lots of money is not useful, and it is good to try to understand and see them for who they really are. But there is also a systemic problem that needs to be addressed as to how society is organized so folks will be valued for such things as their character and purpose in life rather than how much money they've been able to accumulate. Thanks for your spoken thoughts--I enjoyed it. 😊
I plead guilty. I am greedy. Greedy to devour your videos Sofo, as soon as they are published! ;-) It is interesting that I had always been critical of greedy people. I hate greed. I spontaneously accuse greedy behavior when I see it in others. Your video invites me to take a step back and try to focus on "why" people become greedy. Very interesting stuff. Thank you. PS The segment where you talk about the answers of the 25M+ millionaires was very mind opening.
I don't agree that babies are not greedy. Children are taught generosity through example. If they are not taught they will be greedy. Education, particularly moral or spiritual education, can alone fine tune human qualities.
@@SofoArchon A newborn baby's only concern is for personal survival. A newborn baby has no concern but for its own needs. The opposite of greed is generosity or better said the lack of generosity is greed. When one is generous one thinks of others' needs before their own. A baby is incapable of acting in this way. It is the parents responsibility to socialize the baby/child and assist her/him to develop a sense of selflessness and learn to be giving.
I pretty much agree with what you wrote. Thanks for that. I just raised this question because you said that you don't agree that babies are not greedy.
I am so glad that I was raised not to beg or accept anything from others, but to be a giver to non beggars to help themselves. Evil demons can never have enough money, and no matter if you are rich or poor, they will want your money. Please help who you want, but not greedy beggars, who only care about what you give them, buy from them, and do not care about you. I thank my parents for raising me not to beg.
@Sofo Archon The world is broken and each one of us are broken. We are all wounded in one way or another. I attended a free Mindvalley Masterclass online led by Ken Honda earlier this year. The Masterclass was Money EQ. In that Masterclass he shared that we all have money wounds. I can't remember the specific money wounds that he mentioned, but let me know if you are interested in attending the Masterclass and finding out for yourself. I would also like to add that selfishness and greed go hand in hand. The more selfish you are, the more likely you are to be greedy. We are selfish to some extent as we try to look out for No.1 and strive for self-preservation. However, there are people who are selfish to the point that it hurts other people.
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. The Masterclass sounds interesting, but I have too much on my plate right now. And yes, you're absolutely right in saying that egoism and greed go hand in hand.
Why are greedy people greedy? It’s because of 无明,a lack of wisdom. All sentient beings crave for happiness but do not know (lack of wisdom) the moral way to gain happiness. They are influenced by the lure of an external stimulus (五欲),and become attached to the stimulus. However, due to the lack of wisdom, they fail to see that the external stimulus is non-permanence (无常). Without any clue, they cling strongly to the pursuit of the external stimulus (执着)。Because they only know how to pursue happiness through the satisfaction of the craving (五欲)but not realizing of the fact that the stimulus is impermanent. The more they crave (want), the more disappointment (and also dissatisfaction) they get because the stimulus is not everlasting (impermanent). And because they only know how to meet their happiness needs through satisfying this form of impermanent stimulus, they are never contented. And that is the reason people who never feel contented are greedy. For example, someone might be living in a condominium but feel insecure (not contented) and wants to buy another condominium for investment. The promise of the investment rental income (stimulus) makes them happy. But they do not realise (lacking wisdom) that the investment rental income can only be used to buy things that can only give impermanent happiness. As such, they will never be contented because of the impermanent nature of worldly things. Hence, they think that by accumulating more money, they will then feel secure. Hence that is greed.
Thank you, Sofo, for what you are doing here! I admit that I'm not much of a philosopher as someone who is a registered nurse & always been so grounded in fact. I just want to comment that all humans have a duty to teach others what morality is, especially our children & grandchildren. Morality only accompanies organized religion, and it is actually separate from it. If it was taught that it is separate, if a child chooses to reject organized religion, then they would not be rejecting the basic premises by which humans choose to live our lives. On another note, empathy to a certain degree can be taught. Many people do not understand the suffering of others because they have not seen it, but they can learn, especially if they are young, through exposure. People are truly different from each other as evidenced in our DNA. There are genetic mutations for more empathy or less empathy than average that many people will find they carry by doing a DNA test & getting a health report on their DNA. In my own family, I have seen this. Sadly, people who have a number of mutations for a lack of empathy may not be rehabilitatable. Those of us who have one or more for extra empathy almost always end up in helping professions. Although we can mutate our own DNA through epigenetics, these personality aspects can be difficult to alter. Wishing you many Blessings!!

part of our essence is spiritual and society, both nationally and globally, seems to not recognize that on the whole and just to emphasize the physical needs, which are more apparent to us. We are in a physical world and so, we meet these needs first in order to survive, but to ignore our spiritual needs causes people to lose out on the total experience of life, meaning that they don't experience the full happiness they could if they would just get in touch with themselves. We do need to center, that is focus on ourselves , in order to be healthy. this requires time alone or with a Higher Power in order to drown out the static of this world. I use the word static to mean, just unneeded and unsatisfying noise. Noise in the sense of false ideas, false beliefs that are messing up this show we are watching called life
Ppl who cut down forests might do it to survive because there is nothing else for them to survive on. Maybe other ppl should support those forestppl by creating alternatives. Some claim harvesting wood might save them because they would depend on it.
I know one thing for sure ==> how greedy they are how stingy they are!!!!! I have less money barely enough to live here but I haven't problem give my money away for people in need.
I no longer want to be a part of society due to greed and people becoming crazier I long for the day I can make enough money to move to the country build a homestead and be away from this hell that is modern society
They Do realize greed is what spawned our survival? Don't tr hey know the industrial revolution whas made up of both greed and hope for a better tomorrow for Our Children our Civilization plus just because your unlucky dosen't make it right to punish others more fortunate than you that just means one or things your bad at math and or suck at dealing with your small problems wich leads to not being able to deal with your more big problems
Money is not the root of evil ,it can be used for so much good , but unfortunately the people who have a accumilated great wealth prefer to use it mainly for evil purposes ,or wars , or material things. Bill Gates is a great example of using his billions to promote vaccines that are dangerous , in Africa and India thousands died or were physically damaged by the vaccines . George Soros also uses his billions to destroy western country's , just imagine the wonderful things that could have been achieved by helping poor farmers and ,raising the living standards in poor countrys, like clean water ,the list is endless, but they choose instead to use their wealth for destruction.
Sorry but I can't stand when everybody puts a dollar on something like for instance this movie star has 450 million who gives it s t I don't I hate to read I'm so sick of people talking about dollar signs It makes me sick especially with the movie stars in the celebrities and when there's people starving to death. Oh don't get mad the way I'm speaking on here because I have stage 4 cancer in the head so sorry if you don't like it I can't see where to put the dots too bad
I get what you mean, although I find it important that we understand where greed comes from so that we (as a society) can minimize the conditions that give rise to it.
I see! Can you be a bit more specific about what you mean by that? I'm always looking for ways to hone my communication skills, so any suggestion is appreciated!
That's interesting... especially the "bit slow" part, for viewers usually tell me they're enjoying the slow pace. Anyway, thanks for your suggestions - I'll keep them in mind!

One does not need the Bible to know how to find mutual happiness. I was once what I thought was Christian...never could be, it is not possible and it lacks logical coherence and love for all nature.

For example, someone might be living in a condominium but feel insecure (not contented) and wants to buy another condominium for investment. The promise of the investment rental income (stimulus) makes them happy. As such, they will never be contented because of the impermanent nature of worldly things. Hence, they think that by accumulating more money, they will then feel secure. Hence that is greed.
Nice, elaborate explanation. Thanks for taking the time to write this down, Dave!
Greed comes from anger and dissapointment they already decided that they couldn't get what they wanted.

Me too but I hate greed too much too much greed today It makes me sick even watching TV everybody's talking about just movie store that movie store how much they make and how much billionaire how much millionaire I'm tired of hearing it go give it to the poor and needy give it to a cancer center do something good with your money
We leave greed to the other.

Pimple is not a good example. I get pimples because I sweat in the face a lot and I have oily skin by genetics ,while my friend who has dry skin who eats craps doesn't get pimples but only gains weight. Her face is super clear . Dry skin and oily skin is why people get pimples
Are babies greedy no idea properly but is it so bad?
part of our essence is spiritual and society, both nationally and globally, seems to not recognize that on the whole and just to emphasize the physical needs, which are more apparent to us. Noise in the sense of false ideas, false beliefs that are messing up this show we are watching called life
Thanks for sharing this, Edward!
Ppl who cut down forests might do it to survive because there is nothing else for them to survive on. Maybe other ppl should support those forestppl by creating alternatives. Some claim harvesting wood might save them because they would depend on it.
Stems from a scarcity mindset
Beautifully said
I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I absolutly agree.
Thanks for watching, Grazyna.
How about making the greedy people generous?
Well, some of us are dealt with shitty cards in life and fcking hate it.
The more money you get more enemies you get
I know one thing for sure ==> how greedy they are how stingy they are!!!!! I have less money barely enough to live here but I haven't problem give my money away for people in need.
I no longer want to be a part of society due to greed and people becoming crazier I long for the day I can make enough money to move to the country build a homestead and be away from this hell that is modern society
100% agreed

They Do realize greed is what spawned our survival? Don't tr hey know the industrial revolution whas made up of both greed and hope for a better tomorrow for Our Children our Civilization plus just because your unlucky dosen't make it right to punish others more fortunate than you that just means one or things your bad at math and or suck at dealing with your small problems wich leads to not being able to deal with your more big problems
Money is the root of ALL evil.
I wouldn't say that, simply because money is just a set of agreements - it has no power other than the one we give it.
Bible says do and I believe it. And you will too on day
Money is not the root of evil ,it can be used for so much good , but unfortunately the people who have a accumilated great wealth prefer to use it mainly for evil purposes ,or wars , or material things.
Every currency has failed at some point.
Never read the Bible huh?. Money IS the root of all evil.
But you make money by providing value to others? So how is it bad?
I answer your question in another video titled "Greed, Altruism & Capitalism".

I dont think its us that needs to understand I think its them
I get what you mean, although I find it important that we understand where greed comes from so that we (as a society) can minimize the conditions that give rise to it.
Your pimple analogy is delightfully gross! :)
:-)
are babies greedy? yes.
Can you offer an example?
Superbbbbbbbb
Thanks for watching, brother.
Good 👍
Tip : your info is very good but speaking or communication style little bore.
Best of luck 👍
I see! Can you be a bit more specific about what you mean by that?
I'm always looking for ways to hone my communication skills, so any suggestion is appreciated!
@@SofoArchon you are a bit slow and lack facial expressions and tone of voice when you tell something interesting.
That's interesting... especially the "bit slow" part, for viewers usually tell me they're enjoying the slow pace.
Anyway, thanks for your suggestions - I'll keep them in mind!
@@SofoArchon i just told my suggestion. If most of viewers love slow pace then no problem.
@@SofoArchon if you asked me then slow pace is liking listening to a church hearing or late night news. You should add some more facial expressions and modulate your voice tone as you tell something interesting so viewers will get attract.
😌🙏🏻
I wish it to begone
I understand.
Dont waste your time what is Greed and were is it coming from Brother ...read the Bible please
Why do you believe it's a waste of time?
One does not need the Bible to know how to find mutual happiness. I've seen both sides and I'd rather have a functional and causality based reason to act...not because a scripture says a few blanket statements. I was once what I thought was Christian...never could be, it is not possible and it lacks logical coherence and love for all nature.
