@@kentrow7010 yes, Sting's songwriting skills are amazing. However, without Andy's jazz influences and those weird chords their songs wouldn't have so much flavor. And Stewart's drumming is the icing on the cake.
Definitely not the 2 best tracks on synchronicity. Those 2 tracks are a hint of what sting was gonna be as a pure solo artist. Good tracks for easy listening 😊
Dude, I can't usually say I'm actively influenced by a lot of persons, and I never even really followed artists/bands ever, just hearing music here and there always, and I'm not a musician as of now. BUT, I've been hooked in Stewart Copeland and his drumming, and it is now official for me that if there's one single guy out here who can convince and motivate me to grab a drum kit and at least try to practice and get at least somewhat good at drumming over time, it'll be this guy and hardly anyone else.
This is absolutely true....A masterpiece that was also on the charts....Nothing near that these days.Andy was so damn good...I don't even know how good.
For years as I was learning all my favorite rock tunes, I was consistently stumped by Police songs. Completely unplayable chords for novice guitarists. Only now after thirty years with the instrument am I able to come close. You guys have influenced my entire life. Thanks so much for sharing your magic with the world. ❤
Stewart was a huge influence on me musically 🎶 growing up. The Police were genius. Sting is a genius artist, musically. Stewart Copeland and Neil Peart taught me how to play the drums 🥁 as a kid. Thankyou Gentlemen, for all your amazing songs. Rip Neil Peart. 😢
I got to see Andy's new show in St. Paul recently. I was both knocked out and mesmerized by his great performance and the amazing stories shared by him. What a night 🌙
mr. copeland, thank you for sharing this story. I have always thought this song is an unappreciated masterpiece. but more generally, you guys are undeniably great, with three strong voices combined. so hard to achieve. you're drumming had a stylistic effect on everybody I was playing with at the time ( I was in high school). I swear. good music just agitates the air everywhere, in the most exciting way, and it's life affirming. I will always sing your praises. you changed my life. Thanks for taking the time to post on TH-cam. your insights are appreciated.
So good! I play ahead of the beat a lot because of The Police. My first drum set instructor brought the drum sheet music for Roxanne. Following that sheet music the first time, the stickings and approach to play them left a mark in my playing that stuck with me. I owe much to Stewart and those recordings for the musician I am! ❤🤘🎼🎵🎶
Legendary drummer, great song. Definitely gave me some troubles trying to learn how to play it. Andy sommers is phenomenal guitar player, Stew said it best, Andy’s voicing on the instrument is exceptional.
Great story telling videos . I used layover in LAX and the airline put us up at a hotel near Ian’s Backstage Cafe .We would be in there early and he would time for conversation about music and little airplanes . Great guy and storyteller 😎
YES,,, THANK YOU for talking about my favorite tune on Synchronicity. I was THE ONLY one playing it cause Murder by Numbers" was not on album, only on the Cassette
I have read your book and Andy’s as well. Loved the Rhythmatist (40 year ago?) and your Sacred Grove videos. Your attitude and energy are great, and you’re a true musical treasure.
I started out on drums, moved to piano and then guitar. My guitar teacher and I would think of songs for me to learn and play. My teacher would show me the chords Andy used and would always say, “Next!” (Traditional grip rules!)
Still astonishes me that the two musicians who gave sting the most to work with are the two he hasn’t continued to collaborate with. I suppose over the last 40 years, the lure of jazz session musicians is that you pay them a retainer and they just do what they’re told without any need for negotiation or compromise which ensures 100% creative control without any arguments. But ironically, full creative control hasn’t been a formula to emulate the magic of the police where spontaneity was always intrinsic to their success.
IMHO, "Murder by Numbers" is meant for jazz. Think, drop an octave, B flat it, slow the tempo and voila'. Just a thought about a brilliant work, really a masterpiece. Cheers, Sir. Loves to you and all Stewart Copeland fans and fans of The Police.
Saw David Bowie live, took me about 15 min to figure out the long grey haired guy in a trench coat on guitar was Andy Summers backing him. The 3 police laid down the law for musicianship.
I listen to this particular song in my bedroom a lot in the early 90s and I’ve always wondered if some of the people associated it to the Shakespearean play Macbeth?
To somewhat verify Mr. Copeland's account of chords of "M by Ns" needing an extraordinary number of fingers to play, there's a TH-cam video with the audio of a live Frank Zappa performance where FZ invites Mr. Sting on stage to perform "M by Ns." Well anyway. There's that.
Andy Summers is a guitar genius!
Sting is the real Genius in the Band. Sting is a f$$@ing pop music 🎶 Genius! Hands down. Sublime. You can't touch Sting.🤷
@@kentrow7010 yes, Sting's songwriting skills are amazing. However, without Andy's jazz influences and those weird chords their songs wouldn't have so much flavor. And Stewart's drumming is the icing on the cake.
I love when you speak so highly of the others. Warms my heart to think there was a time when you really worked as a band.
Murder by Numbers and Tea in the Sahara are the two best tracks on Synchronicity, and right there at the top of the Police catalogue.
I agree to disagree
Yup.
Agreed. Funny, others feel the same.
Definitely not the 2 best tracks on synchronicity. Those 2 tracks are a hint of what sting was gonna be as a pure solo artist. Good tracks for easy listening 😊
@28naveenator27van I agree. Great tunes tho
I would like to thank Stewart’s parents for getting together. This man has influenced me more than any other drummer.

He is a great musical story teller
It was only on one of the greatest albums of all time !!! Synchronicity. What an album indeed.
This is absolutely true....A masterpiece that was also on the charts....Nothing near that these days.Andy was so damn good...I don't even know how good.
My admiration for Mr. Copeland, the great drummer of the great group: The Police, and what he says is very interesting 👌

I loved the Police so much, i could listen to Stewart's stories all day 🤩
Stewart, your my favorite drummer... ever since the arrested tour ...John from New Jersey
One of my favorite Police songs. Secret sauce of the band
I LOVE these clips! It's so interesting listening to Stewart talking about music and drumming!
Thank you for sharing the love. It was these non Rock tracks that made me fall in love with the police
One of my favourites too. Beautiful. I love the drum beat in it.
One of my favorite songs ever let alone a The Police song.
And this is just one more reason why The Police are one of the best and most creative bands ever to land on earth.
The perfect mixture of THREE amazing souls... Thank you!
One of my favorites. Brilliant dunning to and use of effects there Stewart.
Stewart Genius... the police best band...forever
One of my favorite drummers and band the police
I love this song… I’m all in with the Police… as a musician I love ghost in the machine and most of your more obscure songs…synchronicity etc…
Copeland, uno de los mejores bateristas de la historia
I got to see Andy's new show in St. Paul recently. I was both knocked out and mesmerized by his great performance and the amazing stories shared by him.

Dude! I am so happy. I found you again after all these years. You are such a lovable knucklehead. Glad that all is well with you.

Great song, dark, but the music is wonderfully jazzy.
Murder by Numbers is slept on by so many
Might be my favorite Police track🎵 🎶🥁🤘
Legendary drummer, great song. Definitely gave me some troubles trying to learn how to play it. Andy sommers is phenomenal guitar player, Stew said it best, Andy’s voicing on the instrument is exceptional.
Jazziest Police number, love ❤ it!
One of my fingernails used to look like the outline of Stewart Copeland's face. True story. Legend. ❤
One of my favourite Police tracks.
Music is the Soul
Great story telling videos . I used layover in LAX and the airline put us up at a hotel near Ian’s Backstage Cafe .We would be in there early and he would time for conversation about music and little airplanes . Great guy and storyteller 😎
Thank you Stewart. ❤

I always loved that song and if I had to choose it might be one of my favorite although it's always hard to choose when it comes to the Police.
Another great song.
You were a big hero to another drummer!
My favorite Police track
I LOVE that song!
Just an incredible album.
Some great albums from Montserrat... Clapton, Little River Band... all under volcanic ash now.
Great song. More police
What a great summer
Good Morning Mr Stewart. A Gardone Riviera io ci saró!!!! ❤
We "true fans" heard the song from the B side as soon as it came out. We needed to hear every note we could.
Favorite drummer of all time!
These are such an amazing treat! ❤❤❤
Great song~✨
Love the drums on " Walking on the Moon"
You're a great storyteller, Sir.

Murder by Numbers and Miss Gradenko are my two favorites, but damn I love the whole catalog
One of my fav Police tracks..
I first heard MbN on Fred's jukebox, a Juarez bar. We went back many times for a beer and a replay.
I have read your book and Andy’s as well. Loved the Rhythmatist (40 year ago?) and your Sacred Grove videos. Your attitude and energy are great, and you’re a true musical treasure.
I am officially in love stewart😍🥰

Love this insight Stewart on this great song! Thanks for sharing this with us!
A favorite of mine ❤
I started out on drums, moved to piano and then guitar. My guitar teacher and I would think of songs for me to learn and play. My teacher would show me the chords Andy used and would always say, “Next!” (Traditional grip rules!)
Best band there ever was....
One of my favorites too! Another favorite of mine is all i want is to be next to you from Outlando's de amour
I love these

I keep staring at that Roto-Sound & 3 pAisTe Sound Discs.
Love that song.
Minha música favorita do The Police! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Beautiful Song!
No band will ever match the genius of The Police
Andy is a monster on guitar; Sting is just kind of a monster.
Love it!
I love the version Mr Sting did with ZAPPA
He's somewhat abrasive but one hell of a drummer, which I'm sure is all he cares about and good for him.
more plz!
ya great song
Love the breakdown, so cool! Please do “I Burn For You” next. That’s one of my all time favorite songs that’s a bit obscure as well. Thank you!
Fantastico!

Awesome!
Stewart reminds me of David Lee Roth. He always seems "on".
Good story
Police sans Copeland c'est pas possible.
When I first heard MBN, I was a journalist working a beat that sent me to homicide scenes every night. M BN became my personal theme song.
One day I'mma get my hands on what Stew played before the album's bumboclaat EDIT. Gonna hear what actually happened when Hugh hit RECORD! ✊🏿

Stew the GOAT
Sting performed that song with Zappa once, guess he liked it too
