Nice bed. We had a good onion harvest this year but they are not storing like they have in the past. Many are rotting in the center already. We ordered the same variety as last year. They lasted all winter. I love my multiplying onions. We have several patches going. Missouri is in a severe drought. One of our neighbors’ well dried up. His family has used that well for generations.

Williamsville is wonderful if anyone wants a road trip. Get everything from a round pen for your horses, red rind hoop cheese by the pound, fresh green boiled peanuts, quality western wear, excellent boots and horse tack. I sure enjoy that store

I dehydrate my multiplying onions. I have divided twice this past year, cut and dried tops several times. They just keep going. I planted german white this year too. Lol I must be okay if doing what Danny and Wanda are doing. Dont forget the copper coils Danny.

I HAVE 2 permaculture beds of onions and they are lovely. They give me green onions every spring before most things are growing. One bed is multiplying onions and with them you MUST take a LOT of green onions out in the spring or the bulbs stay too small because of crowding. I dehydrate what we do not eat fresh. Unfortunately the super-sweet onions will NOT winter over in Kansas but the bags of sets they sell in Wal mart WILL!

I ordered 10 bunches from Dixondale and was expecting anywhere from 500-700 plants. We got just over 1200 plants and they all went in the ground a week ago. Had to plant double rows because my onion plot couldn't accommodate singles. I think the trick is ordering early to get such big bunches. Got the garlic planted too but I plant softneck and silverskins. Don't know how porcelains will work in our heat but looking forward to your videos on it.

I got my red sofire onion plants from Hoss Tool today and planted them out, I was very pleased with the size, there was a few small ones but the majority was good size. I ordered 50 but I know there was more than 50 in the bunch. Now I'm totally out of room and have onions I started from seeds, don't know where I'll put them. I need another raised bed 😮

I make my raised beds with stakes on outside of bed. It works for me no nailing etc. I used untreated landscape timber and wood trim 3 sided. The soil inside bed pushes on Timbers, the wood trim stakes on outside of bed keeps Timbers in place. This past year was the 7th year using same stuff. All I do during the non growing season is add veggie kitchen scraps, dice and toss in garden with leaves.

The secret to my onion growing is a very fluffy loamy soil mix with 50%+- dried chicken manure, sand and composted soil. The high nitrogen content is necessary because Onions are not a Root crop. The best definition would be a modified stem known as a tunicated bulb. So growing methods for a tunicated build should be observed. It works for me.

The garlic will work if you mulch it really well to keep the soil cool when we go into our strange spring weather where it's cold one day and two days later it's in the upper 80's. I planted some hard neck garlic this year and mulched pretty heavy with pine straw. Travis over at Lazy Dog Farm has had good success with this method.

I've got some beds we made out of the more recent treated lumber. Falling apart from rot & insect damage in 4 years. We have another bed that I made 30 years ago out of the old "real" treated wood. Other than weather color change, the wood is just like new. I was going to plant my Dixondale Farms "Texas Legend" and "Texas 1015Y", but I picked up something and got sick, so I guess we will plant in a few days. Mine looked like yours this year, but with all the weather strangeness this summer, I'm happy to get what I have. They should be fine.
