The latter may require the former in order to succeed, so they may thus be related.
I am amazed that so many people, in this instance as in many others, are unwilling to entertain the conspiracy hypothesis. To my mind this is a very negligent attitude.

There are some people who believe that Netanyahu allowed the attack as a false flag since most of those killed were left-wing (also a couple hundred soldiers died) to invade Gaza. But it's not all up to him, the are leftists in the army like Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy, crucial intel was withheld from him by the IDF Dir. of Intel, Aharon Haliva.

Honestly I think that they wanted hamas to attack so as to give them justification for invading gaza.
You don't just leave a border like that unmanned, they shot kids throwing rocks at them in the past but " fell asleep" as hundreds of fighters poured through using gliders and bulldozer? A bulldozer could be seen coming a mile away, they're slow and lumbering machines. Same with the guys flying those gliders.
It makes no sense. I know AI is panned and sometimes unreliable but I asked several AI machines if such an attack is plausible and they all said that it would basically be impossible to cross the border in broad daylight and accused me of lying lol

These people are so fixated on revenge. Completely inexplicable chain of failures that led to disaster and don’t anybody dare think anyone allowed this to happen.
    There are three options:
    1. The moon, stars and planets were perfectly aligned and Hamas just got l’ucky’ for the course of several hours.
    2. Criminal levels of incompetence on the path of the IDF.
    3. It was seen as an opportunity by people of influence in the political and military establishments. Then ask yourself, an opportunity for what?

No one is asking the basic question - why wasn't there a coordinated and standard response when the attacks started? Every incident starts by involving the local police, then if they can't handle it, their backup (in the USA, Swat, National Guard, etc.) and so on, up the chain of command and finally the military. They would have had standard operating procedures and would have had practice drills involving multiple agencies for emergencies. Why wasn't this followed? Even if they go on leave for a religious holiday, they can all be recalled back to their jobs in an emergency probably within an hour. This is not a government office! These are not schoolchildren who have to be recalled from summer vacation back to school :) All the soldiers of the army do not have to arrive immediately. Until the soldiers arrive, there are backup units for the local police and emergency response units. The backup units will engage with the terrorists in the meanwhile.
People are getting angry with me for raising these points. okay I'm ignorant and I'm not Israeli. But please answer this one simple question. Even if there was total intelligence failure and no one knew anything about what was going to happen, was the response acceptable? Did the entire Israeli defense forces which includes police, special forces, emergency response teams and the army. Did they respond correctly? Even if there was Shabbat and holiday. Was it acceptable that 1300 people died and 260 taken hostage? I'm not even considering the 25,000 Palestinians who died in Gaza as a result of this failure.
As a family man, suppose a criminal comes and attacks my family in my home. If I am asleep, am I not supposed to wake up and defend them? What if I go and hide in the bathroom while they are being attacked. What if I run out through the back door and escape and leave them to be attacked and harmed? Yes the criminal is fully responsible for any harm he causes them. But I am also responsible for my own cowardice and not defending them and sacrificing myself.

I agree that Muslim majority states lack freedom of speech but that lack of freedom is confined to subjects related to religion and individuals in leadership positions such as kings and sheikhs.
In Thailand (a country where only 6% of the population are Muslims) it is forbidden to criticise the King or any member of his family in public.
To defame the king in public carries a jail sentence of no less than 12 years.
The lack of freedom of speech in Israel relates to matters that are beyond the narrow subject-specific matters I wrote of above which is why it is extremely worrying.

Today, the 30th November 2023 the convicted terrorist Itamar Ben Gvir who also serves as Israel's Minister of internal security declared in an interview on an Israeli news channel that he will hand weapons to any Jewish citizen that asks for it (implying that minors under the age of 18 will also be allowed to recieve weapons as many of them already carry and use weapons in the West Bank).
This was said after a terrorist killed three Israelis in Jerusalem.
He said the weapons are for the purpose of "protection" and "self defense" from potential Arab terrorists and that those who use them will not be sanctioned if even the weapons are used erroneously (i.e if there was no threat to the life of the Israeli firing the weapon and/or if the Israeli fires at a threat that proves to be a figment of his or her imagination).
Basically, the minister gave a green light to Israeli citizens to conduct pogroms with immunity from future prosecution.

Israel has one of the most protected borders in the world with a regular and ongoing history of conflict. Israel has one of the most elite militaries in the world backed by the West. The majority of the citizens over of the age of 18 have served in the military. Gaza is occupied by the Israeli military. Israel boasts of its'Iron Dome' and its ability to defend itselft against attacks.
Yet a bunch of guys with minimal training and weapon systems were able to 'suprise' the Israeli people with bulldozers and paragliders traveling at whopping speed of 20mph across the desert.
You can drive from the south tip of Israel to the north tip in about 6 hours. You can drive from the east side to the west side of Israel in about 1 hours. It takes a little over an hour to get from Tel Aviv or Jeruselum to the border town where the attack was initiated

There are two reasons: One above and one below. Below, there are several possibilities, but most likely upper commanders couldn't believe that Hamas would attempt such a thing (similar to what happened in the Yom Kippur war). As far as above, when Klal Yisrael is not one then Hashem allows the enemy to have strength. Right before the war there was major friction within Israel. Those that hated were struct hardest.
Fortunately, right now, we are all one! We ALL pray for our hostages and our soldiers! There is no yours and ours! We are all together as one and that is how Hashem gives us strength to succeed!

Itamar Ben Gvir was convicted and imprisoned for almost a year on terror charges (he probably personally murdered at least one Palestinian villager but the absence of CCTV cameras let him off the hook on the charge of homocide).
He is now the minister of internal security (incredible but true) and prides on reducing the number of calories given to Palestinian prisoners (including children as young as 12) and that he instructed the jail wardens to chain their legs to walls and deny them mobility.
Is anyone surprised a country run by such people would also murder its own civilians to further its agenda?

To have a television set (typically one set for 60 to 100 prisoners) is NOT an indication of good treatment.
The problem is the Israeli jail system is not accountable to objective monitoring and is not inspected by foreign bodies.

As someone outside Israel who is not Jewish, I strongly suspect that Bibi knew an attack was coming because we know they were warned and Hamas were seen training near the border but for political reasons he did not step up security, so allowing the attack to go ahead.
The reason I say that is that Bibi is in trouble at home and saw a major attack by Hamas as a golden opportunity to gain public support by uniting the nation in a desire for vengeance and a genocidal war to destroy Gaza and the people living there by making it uninhabitable which makes the war a genocidal war because they have nowhere for to flee to safety.
Bibi is an extremist who doesn't want peace with the Palestinians as can be seen in the West Bank where they have subjected the local Palestinian population to 56 years of a brutal occupation and forced land seizures where IDF soldiers and settlers kill Palestinians, even 8 year old children, with total impunity. Israel has done this all with the collusion of the entire western leadership of the world and Bibi expects Israel to receive the same level of collusion from western leaders in his genocidal war in Gaza as can be seen from the refusal of western leaders to call for permanent cease fire.

He wants to do all this at the expense of the indigenous Palestinians. He is willing to kill as many people as possible to take control of Gaza and accomplish what it is he wants. The arrogance and white supremacy is unreal. He needs to be imprisoned indefinately along with the higher ups of IOF.

Ya know the more you think about it the less it makes sense. We all know Israelis simply cannot stop talking about past Hamas rockets attacks, and suicide bombings, and the hate they genuinely experienced. So i don't buy the military simply could not believe it could happen to them. Clearly that's the sole purpose of their job. If you are hired as a fighter and you don't expect a fire, then you are beyond a horrible firefighter. And they definitely had the intel. Egypt knew, so damn well Israel knew. And instead of their response being covert military operations to get the ones who are responsible, their actual response is an immense violent retribution on anyone really, Hamas or civilian, or inspite of civilians. Because heres the thing, if they say they care about Palestinians civilians, question then is if they care, why were they not caring of Israelis on oct 7? You would think the IDF abd Bibi would be caring to the 9000th degree towards Israelis. And yet, the terrorists attacked happened. So it seems to me, highly improbable that they just dropped the ball. They, the idf, themselves say they care the most about Israelis and Palestinians. Except on that say, they chose not to care and also chose not to act on the intelligence. Perhaps ultimately was to have a military presence in Gaza and to level it. And the only way to do that, is to have gain sympathy. Nothing else makes sense.

Not because of some conspiracy but because of pure overconfidence and negligence. Following the yom kippur war, everyone of significancein that gov was kicked out/resigned. Their political careers were over, it was the biggest disaster in israeli history up to that point. Oct 7th was even worse, and as a result the pushback has been strong with many already calling for Bibi's resignation. Oct 7th was a politcal disastor for everyone currently in the israeli gov. Israeli intelligence knew of the impending attack a year ago. As printed in The Jerusalem Post _"The document, which authorities codenamed "Jericho Wall," is reported to have outlined "a methodical assault" in which drones would attack Israel's surveillance system as terrorists entered the country on foot and using paragliders and motorcycles under the cover of a barrage of rockets... The plans "circulated widely among Israeli military and intelligence leaders," the report says. The IDF's Gaza division wrote an assessment of it, reporting plans for "a new raid, unprecedented in its scope," but concluding that the plans were a "compass," detailing Hamas's ambitions for the future, rather than an immediate plan of action... Then, in July 2023, the IDF's signal intelligence division, Unit 8200, reported that Hamas had been spotted conducting training exercises that mirrored the blueprint in "Jericho Wall," including exercises to simulate shooting down Israeli airplanes, occupying a kibbutz, and overrunning a military base."
NYT - _"I utterly refute that the scenario is imaginary," the analyst wrote in the email exchanges. The Hamas training exercise, she said, fully matched “the content of Jericho Wall.” _*_“It is a plan designed to start a war,” she added. “It’s not just a raid on a village.”_*
Times of Israel, OCT 8 - *"Just a few days ago, Assaf Pozilov, a reporter for the Kan public broadcaster, tweeted the following: “The Islamic Jihad organization has started a noisy exercise very close to the border, in which they practiced launching missiles, breaking into Israel and kidnapping soldiers.”* < Oh yeah, the training camps were above ground as well, some only half a mile from the border!
Moreover, Egypt warned of the attack several days beforehand, US intelligence also knew.
Yet somehow, the Israeli army was caught so off guard that it took them TWELVE HOURS to arrive at some of the kibbutz's??? I think the quickest response time was hours, leaving plenty of time for the terrorists to kidnap all the leftist hostages they wanted.
It may be hard to accept, but the writing is on the wall here.

It's easy to be critical and suspect either someone or some group was somehow complicit in the attack but you can look at many events in history where one side was completely surprised and unprepared for what (in retrospect) looked obvious. The attacks on Pearl Harbor and 9-11 are good examples. You can look specifically at Israel when they were attacked during the Yom Kippur War. I’ll add some things people should keep in mind, given that you can’t find many satisfactory answers in the video nor the comments here.
First off, Israel is absurdly beurecratic, and the army is no different. The details are just not organized, most of the low-down soldiers are 17-19 year olds. Some anecdotes-a friend of mine got a non-combat position in the army by telling the army he was an only child. Weeks later, he asked for a leave of absence to attend his sibling’s wedding. No problems. Another friend of mine currently works non-combat at a desk job. After the first few months starting out, he’s convinced his office to swap to MS excel because the program they used to use was crappy and old. With the disorganization, various things can fall through the cracks all the time.
Another thing to be aware of is that Hamas purposefully attacked on a Jewish Holiday. To explain what this looked like, many soldiers who got called in on that day came directly from synagogue in the morning, heading out to fight in prayer shawls, etc. On a holiday, no orthodox person would generally keep their phone with them, so contacting reserves is harder. And more active soldiers are off on break. Additionally, there’s not active public transportation in many cities, which is vital for how many young soldiers get to bases. (Cars cost a fortune in Israel because taxes, another story entirely.)
Beyond just being a holiday, this hit Israel at a time when it was on nobody’s mind. The West Bank has been a focus of the army’s mind for a while, and the north border is considerably more dangerous with Hezbollah. Even currently, with a war down south, tens of thousands of soldiers are north in case tensions with Hezbollah increase. Additionally, serious political strife and division has plagued the country for the past year+
(Active personnel are also increased when the tensions are high. Recent barrages of rockets, etc. This was not really the case prior to Oct. 7.)
Israel’s military is largely built of reserves. Many of them even unprompted made their way south to protect kibbutzim, but it took longer to officially gather them in. The active personnel control bases, borders, etc, not all stuff that they typically call 100% of the soldiers to leave behind and race down south. Plus as I mentioned, active personnel is reduced on a holiday in the first place, and calling the reserves takes longer.
Take your average soldier. After the fighting begins, he eventually hears about it, and starts checking his phone to see if he’ll be called to duty. Shortly after, he is. He finds transportation to the nearest base, where he then has to get briefed, get geared up, and then begin traveling south to a kibbutz. All of this, (especially the transportation,) takes more than a few minutes.
In situations like this, Israel also uses busses from public transportation to transport soldiers. (Which wasn’t initially active on that day as I said.) I heard a story from a bus driver who was called in from his weekend early in the morning, was told to go to work and bring a bus to a stop. There, as many soldiers who could fit it came on, all wearing clothes from Synagogue. The officer told him to just drive south. So he did, until as they eventually neared the fighting, the officer told him to drive straight ahead, and not look left or right, at the horror. They got near a kibbutz, or wherever they were headed, he dropped them off, and the officer told him to drive all the way back, and then bring another group and repeat.
Hamas also attacked in absurd numbers, (about 1500 were killed inside Israel’s borders, and that’s just ones that didn’t escape back to Gaza. I find it depressing to even think about how many radicalized Jihadists there are-another conversation,) and took out army bases in addition to towns. So nearby bases aren’t rushing to protect. And when the rest of the army shows up, their first priority is to recover bases. By that night/the next morning, the area was basically completely cleared.
In short, when you hear reports of the army not showing up for 6 hours, that doesn’t mean they were laying on their butts. It means, between the transportation and fighting, many towns weren’t secured or didn’t get aid until then.
Is all of this to say it’s excusable? Absolutely not. There should be better organization, sufficient personnel, and protocol for these types of things. But hopefully you understand better what the problems are. Israel’s military may be strong but it’s not as strong as everyone says, and it’s definitely overconfident. And this isn’t even addressing intelligence (yet.)
On the Hamas side, they were completely able to take out sections of the border, and security stuff that morning. Some think that protests were used as cover to plant bombs by the walls and gates. Drones helped took out security. From my understanding, besides crossings, the security at the border regularly consists of the fence, camera/intelligence stuff, and patrols.
This attack was not a random terror attack, it was years in the making and planning. Reports are that most Hamas members didn’t know about it in advance.
Hamas also used multiple ways to get in. As I mentioned, they blew up large parts of the border fences. They also have their expensive terror tunnel infrastructure. And also paragliders. (By reports these had been noticed by intelligence for the first time recently. It was not understood they were for an upcoming big attack, rather than standard Hamas military training.) Hamas attackers were also high on Captagon, making them hyper-active, and unfeeling, easier to kill without remorse, and keep going even when hurt.
We also don’t often realize how close some kibbutzim are to Gaza. Many were overrun quite quickly. This is where you get videos of terrorist strolling around a conquered kibbutz, with hours to spare to go on to the next one all with time to drive back to Gaza before the Idf shows up.
On the intelligence failure, there were likely problems at many levels. Reports have come from Israeli intelligence that many small reports were made noticing certain irregularities on the days leading up to the attack. But there are other irregularities all the time. Many of these types of reports don’t get accepted by low-ranking cocky commanders, or fall through the cracks for other reasons. Additionally, the intelligence is generally probably not quite as extensive as we like to believe in the first place. How much higher-ups knew is unclear. They certainly seem to have had attack plans, though they’ve gathered many over the years.
Egypt says they knew it would happen. It’s unclear how true this is exactly. Plus hindsight is always 20/20, for us too in addition to them. All the reports that had fallen through cracks, or dismissed as common irregularities or impossible plans, all of a sudden become damning evidence.
Look at recent reports in the ‘Jericho Wall’ plan that Israel’s intelligence received a year or so ago. It’s quite chilling. It was mainly dismissed as impossible-part of the Idf’s terrible overconfidence. Still, an attack plan is not the same as a date. They’ve had these and other plans for years-that doesn’t mean they keep higher security around the clock.
(Imo, being 50 years after a previous war started on a holiday, with a similar intelligence failure, should have put the army on edge. It’s strange how disconnected these types of things feel from reality, even as we memorialize them and talk about them. No one thinks the holocaust is starting again tomorrow, but nobody expected it in 1939 either. No one expected an imminent attack in 1973, and no one did now. The army can discuss plans, and sit around for a year, and still nobody imagines it will happen tomorrow. Food for thought.)
So yeah, the south wasn’t as well fortified as it should have been. And as a result, plus all the difficulties I explained earlier, it took longer than necessary for towns to get reclaimed.
On the intelligence side, it’s not likely (imho) that these were ignored on malicious purpose. There’s still a lot of overconfidence, and a lot of other problems, obviously, just a few of which I’ve hopefully helped explained.
And there will be-needs to be-investigations soon, in case there are more systemic problems. Until then I’m not a fan of conspiracy theories.
Most likely, the current government is done-for. (Well they’re already gone cus they formed a unity government for the war in the meantime, but you know what I mean.) They won’t get re-elected, if they don’t forfeit before that. Even if nothing comes of investigations, there were enough failures-whether justified or not, you can consider the logistical/ practical/ psychological points I raised earlier and decide for yourself-that this is the way of things.

I really lack the words to explain how much this question disgust me(Obviously I know Corey just want his views). My family is from Sderot a town of 40,000 people, with military/strategic factories in there, tens of thousands of people from all social groups of Israel(left, right, secular, religious,Haredi, college town but also lot of pensioners),the mayor himself loves Bibi, majoirty of the people vote for Likud and many of young go to be fighters and good pruductive citizens. The Nazis arrived here and butchered people from house to house, took over Police stations with hostage all over, after you had barrage after barrage,Hundreds of thousands lost their home and live in Trauma. The idea that someone think this is intentional makes me sick, especially when they use it cynically after for political purposes...

I hear you, but I do see some online "Bibi, or others in Israel, knew it was coming" conspiracy baloney floating about. I was heartened by the consistently rapid response of "no way, no how" by all Israelis interviewed. They shot down that ugly rumor, and fortified my support for Israel (but not Bibi). Aloha from Hawaii.

They did know it was coming, but not exactly when. Military resources have been drifting from Gaza border for a while now. They are too busy protecting "settlers" (thieves) in the west bank, stealing more land, more administrative detention, etc.. etc...@@bobs4115

What do you think about the reports, that Netanyahu facilitated money to get to Hamas? It has been reported on several news channels, that Netanyahu ensured that large sums of money got to Hamas, because he wanted to strengthen Hamas. The idea was, that Hamas was never going to be a legitimate political force, therefore it would be better to have a powerful Hamas, than to have moderate, reasonable Palestinian leaders, who could actually build a state.

@@rahelkamber4839 I disagree with "reports" that put evil motives, they are hit pieces. Netanyahu loosed the restrictions(even giving dual use pruducts),he expanded fishing rights,he granted workers visa(which is very strong taboo),he let the Qataris give money for all services all because he thought(and not only he but also the previous government and Military establishment, and the Americans and Europeans, and Arabs and I can continue)that if you give them massive wealth creation, jobs and money(which happend)they will not want to risk it and attack.Well he was wrong and not only him, everyone who was part of this was(and they should answer for their mistakes especially the Military).
Another thing that is not popular to say out loud but I will say it,not ONE Israeli believe in "moderate" Palestinians bullshit after the 2nd intifada(this is why actual Leftists in Israel disappeared),the "separating" of Gaza and West Bank willingly or not(and therefore not wanting united Palestinian state)again is not only Netanyahu, this is literally every government since Hamas rise from Gaza.Israel loudly said we don't want Gaza(and de facto made it state),while Israel NEED the West Bank for security and keep Israel safe, keeping the status que with as less deaths as possible(with either giving it up with good security agreement or annexing it depends on what side are you on),again in strategic terms he did nothing different then the leftists or centrists, they just talked more gently.
