    TH-cam need to add a 2nd like button.
    There isn't a lot I can say about your music that you don't already know yourself Gary.
    The combination of those 4 instruments work really well together in your capable hands 👏 👏 👏

      Thanks CH - yes super cheap way to get gear many of us used to dream of back in the day!

    This was just fantastic Gary 👍👏🙏 I so enjoyed this. Will be watching again very soon to work out how I can replicate this beautiful analogue set-up with my Microfreak, A4 and Moog Mother32. Beautiful sequences, pads and solo-ing. Dreamy soundscapes. I just love the 5 and 7 step sequences. Hypnotic. A veritable TD “one man band” ! Excellent ! 👏👏🙏😊

      Glad you enjoyed it Ken - yes TD notable for those odd step sequences, and ones that evolve too. Yes I think the A4 is 4 sequence Tangerine Dream in a box itself, the freak with some phasing can certainly provide nice moody pads and the Mother I guess some gorgeous lead lines?

    Thanks Gary - watched the whole lot now and got loads of tips! I have a gig later this month (it might be 2 separate sets...) so will have the chance to try these techniques out! Great stuff! Loved the sounds and the feel of the whole thing. THe use of the EWI really lifts this. Brilliant!

      Appreciate that Andrew - good luck with the gigs! If only we could do them in Australia atm, another month or two of lockdown. Yes I threw the EWI to handle some lead feels, should have noted the best on-board patches (most people think it is a midi controller) as it has a full analog synth engine on-board. A great machine ...

    Excellent 👌👌 I wouldn't be into synths if it wasn't for TD..

      Totally - that mood and long constructed pieces, well the 70s at least

    Really neat set up, I myself don't have any "modular" synth experience. However I do enjoy my software Oberheim OB-X and Minimogue (Moog) VST instruments. I love that Chris Franke style sequencing technique. Your super saw and mysterious pad effect reminds me of Klaus Schulze as well. Very cool indeed! I've been considering the Behringer Model D with keyboard and sequencer myself. Ricochet, Phaedra, Force Majeure and Pergamon are a few of my TD favorites.

      Thanks for listening Rob and yes classic sounds from the 70s, well Rubycon, Ricochet and Phaedra which I grew up with in my very early years ... this equipment is very cheap semi-modular so a system can be built up for a few hundred $$ now than what would have cost Tangerine Dream $100s of thousands back in the day, out of reach of most musicians ...

      @@GaryHayes Thanks for your reply to my comment, Gary. The price, size and ability to get that classic analog sound is definitely more realistic these days. Back in 1988 I purchased a Yamaha DSR-1000 keyboard (new) for around $700. That particular keyboard had FM synthesis similar to the DX-7. I once owned an Octave Cat analog synthesizer as well (1979). Both units I sold in 1992 regrettably. The Cat synth restored is worth nearly $3000 today, yikes!

    great explanation of the sequencer i new 'get' why a 8 step sequencer can actually be useful when you can change it around so much as it plays.

    • @GaryHayes
      @GaryHayes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes totally - especially if you utilize all the 3 rows (24 steps) with various combinations moving between each one all done on the fly and flipping notes and steps during the performance. Saying that I am a fan of Korg active step, which also adds the extra stuff of random movement around the steps too vs just one direction ...

    Ahhhhh so you got the 960! Can't remember if you've shown it before. It's a great, fun box isn't it? Perfect for those Berlin School sequences and stuff!

      Yes got it back in Feb or so - in fact done several videos with it, this one on ratcheting which I think you saw? Back in March th-cam.com/video/pICUv6rd718/w-d-xo.html Cheers mate

    Very nice performance and explanation. One thing I noted is that one in a while there are notes of the sequencer off by one semitone. Is the 960 that unstable, or is it simply that the voltages of these notes are dialled just inbetween the notes, so that tiny fluctuations cause the quantiser to pick the other one once in a while?

    • @GaryHayes
      @GaryHayes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was actually the Doepfer dual quantizer which needed a bit of calibration which I did after this performance. Luckily I quite like a little bit of serendipity like that :) Cheers

    So all all the voices are going through the one delay? You don't use the delay on the Neutron? Also I don't think you mention the unit to the left of the Neutron, not sure if that's contributing anything?. Fascinating stuff. The white noise is somewhat reminiscent of "through Metamorphic rock" .

    • @GaryHayes
      @GaryHayes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Sean - yes for this piece I put the 4 different instruments through the same Delay/reverb on the MS70 (incl the Freak and EWI of course). I have a few modules that don't fit in my portable rack, the one left of the Neutron is actually a mixer / mult and I am using the mult to distribute the main gate from the Sequential to 3 inputs, 2 on modelD and 1 on nuetron. Yes TD used to use gated white noise a lot in many tracks, I will have to check out Meta Rock! Cheers

    Great performance and walktrough! TD in the seventies has always been favourites :-)
    On a another note ... what stand/rack do you use for your equipment?
    Looks very neat, I'm looking for something similar (for an almost identical setup!)

      @GaryHayes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      THanks Orjan - yes a classic time! The rack here is 3 Eurorack 104 skiffs www.behringer.com/product.html?modelCode=P0DWT with a rack that connects them together www.behringer.com/behringer/product?modelCode=P0E2R

    Probably a dumb question, but how are you playing just the root note on the 3rd Model D oscillator?

    • @GaryHayes
      @GaryHayes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not dumb. The switch next to it disconnects it from incoming cv... So you then have to tune it to one note
