Have you considered buying your mechanic's business? Or establishing your own, purely for internal use? Jobs like this Audi would potentially be salvageable, particularly if you had a low-cost apprentice on the team. Service, brakes, tyres and injector are all level 1 college jobs.
It mustn't be worthwhile. Chops was asked the same question and said employing someone was too expensive and a faff. I guess unless you're turning over loads and loads of cars its cheaper just to pay the garages rates.

Just thinking, seeing as though you have a lot of contacts in the trade, it would make for a good video/series if you could find someone's first car and get it back on the road and sell it back to them (for profit naturally). Or if not a first car a favourite car. My favourite car is no longer registered so it's probably been scrapped but there's a couple I would buy back in a heartbeat. Keep up the good work mate 👍
As soon as you said it was a diesel warning bells started to ring. Finding a petrol one from this era of the A4 is not easy and a lot are now ran into the ground. I hope you can get your money back, and wait for a better sample.

Yeah when it comes to the ownership thing. I bought me a Skoda Fabia Estate 2012 in Spetember last year and it's in really good shape and it has had 11 owners. Full serive history and yes maybe a bit high on the mileage but it's just such a fun car to drive tbh
Matt, have a look at the Seat Exeo, it was the rebadged B7 with a sprinkle of Seat. The estate car is the one to look at in tec form. They are really quick and I think an overlooked classic. Cheers Dave
I too got unlucky buying an Audi A4 B7 recently, it was going great and it started having problems almost right away. Turns out after a few mechanic visits that my head gasket was burnt and my camshaft was grinded out and needed replacing. It should be fixed by next week and will cost me a solid 2000€ to fix it all
I bought one of these exact cars same spec in January 2021. I still own the car and have drove it probably less than 5000 miles in 2 years. When it worked it was lovely. I’m currently many many £’s deep into a lemon of my own🙃 Live and learn I suppose. I do however love this model of Audi and because of that I keep hold of it.

There is SO MUCH MORE ENVIRONMENTAL COST in making a new car from scratch than keeping something like this on the road. Cars 10 years or older should have no tax and be ulez free or something which makes people want them and increases the price of them... but politicians only want to make money and the kick backs they get from the deals they make = profit on new cars rather than saving cars like this, it's sad really if you think about it. Injector aside the rest is just consumables. Discs and pads all round just get the cheapest of the cheap, Apec or whatever. Ditto tyres or stick some part worns on it like you did on that Toerag.
A grand for a car in that condition is pretty fair. If you're are able to do your own repairs. I know it's your business to elevate the standard and price of something like that to 3K but I'd always be looking at that as a sub 2K car even cleaned up and serviced.It's 18 years old not so easy to wipe the years away.
I really like this generation of the A4. Nice design, fit and finish, and the right dimensions. The next A4 grew too much and brought the 3 and the C-Class with it

Felt like a king as I was fairly young and my mates were still in Saxos and Clios. I was young and foolish and had no idea of how the company car tax and BIK worked. Drove it for 9 months and the tax man caught up with me and I owed £1000s which they took from my pay the following year. Ruined me

What are the labour costs per hour at your mechanics? Probably a lot less than Audi? At a loose end recently as I became a widow. My labour cost is free. I'm a retired marine engineer. Diesels are my thing.

I had one last year sold it over 2k out of profit and I'm not a seller. The oil pump hex key wore off killing the entire engine.
