I love your honesty in these gear dumps, and know you or Lampers will break anything that can be broken. Keep these coming Brian. I enjoy seeing you branch out of the routine and trying out new things to see if improvements are out there somewhere.
I take a whole roll of lueko, road flare, 12 x 12 painters plastic, xtherms are easy to patch unlike any other pad ! Faljraven pants are hard to beat with greenland wax. Ive always used dog shit bags over my smart liner socks with buffalo wool socks over that , always dry !
Thanks Brian, I've been following your gear strategy for years and it's always nice to see your latest and greatest tweaks. Great tip on the gaiters inside the pants. I'll experiment with that one. Also appreciate your honest info on the #2 kit and body mechanics lol we've all been there.
So stoked for the mtn goat video series! Also I find if I put a weighted blanket (20lbs) with a couple dumbbells (2x 30lb) in the middle of it, then put that in a game bag, it really seems to simulate a hind quarter.
I agree with your take on Harris bipods. I kept debating on whether to swap it out with a carbon fiber one, but I really like the stability and how fast and easy it is to deploy. It adds a little weight, but I highly recommend the Hawk Hill Talons. When loading the bipod I don't move at all. Coupled with a t-nuts bipod lock it's hard to beat!
Also a great spring and fall pant is the Kuiu attack . Super comfy and they have the same zippers for venting ! I love those and have bought 8 more pairs in different colors and camo . Try em out
Great info. I have to ask why you guys prefer bipods over shooting sticks? Bipod is definitely more stable but sticks seem more versatile. Trying to figure out pros and cons before a western hunt.
dunno if you guys gives a damn but if you're stoned like me atm then you can stream all of the new series on instaflixxer. Been streaming with my gf for the last few months :)
I love that you are testing kuiu stuff. I am a nerd and settled on kuiu after looking at there price to rating ratio beating other brands. I have been rocking it for the last couple years. If you want a knee pads try the kuiu pro pant they are VERY durable and the kneepad is a life saver when you fall a lot like me. Love the content and cannot wait to see the hunt.
Brian- What gun, caliber, and scope you running for bears? We leave from WISCO for DIY Idaho hunt May 26th! Love, love, love your gear dumps, helps me be more prepared!
Love watching all your content from podcast to video series! I use the kuiu pro pant and peloton 240 for early season whitetail and spring turkey hunting in Mississippi and have been loving it! I’m interested to know which kuiu hoodie you used and how you decide between merino, peloton, and the strong fleece fabric options from kuiu.
My buddies and I were on a 2 week elk hunt and had some rubbing issues. We were talking about why more shows dont talk about solutions to this at some point. Baby powder works awesome for this issue. Good luck on your bear hunts
Really interesting clothing lineup! I live in Dixon CA which is the location of KUIU. I've been using KUIU since the company started. You just about identified my clothing line up. I love the Kutana pant for a lot of my hiking, but I gravitate towards the Attack pant when hunting. Good luck on your spring bear hunting trips! See you at TAC Utah.
I want to try the Attack Pant as well. I had a pair years ago and I loved them. They didn’t have any in stock so I went for the Kutana for now. You sure you wanna stay in Commiefornia? 😜
Awesome video, love the gear dumps. Gives a guy ideas on what works for others. Like to see your trying out some kuiu clothing. I got plenty of that, love most of it. Can't wait to hear how the western mountaineering bag works out for you, been on the edge of pulling the trigger on the badger for awhile. Used your code and picked me up a Seek Outside redcliff and large stove a few months back. Finally got the stove burnt in and can't wait to get out in the hills and try it out. Look forward to the bear videos. In fact look forward to any of your videos, great quality. Good luck bear hunting.
Who makes those little zippered bags you use for organizing your small stuff? I have a couple random ones, but would like to grab a few more for organizing my gear inside my pack
Brian, thanks for the review. Wondering if you’ve ever considered a quilt vs. a sleeping bag? My wife is looking to try backpacking and doesn’t like how mummy bags are confining, we went with an Enlightened Equipment Revelation 10* quilt for her to try out, allows for more space for her to not feel so confined by a mummy bag foot box. You do need a good pad with a high R-value to keep you warm (she’s also running the Big Agnes Q Core pad, it’s R-value is 4.3). Good luck this season, hope you guys have a great hunt and I’m excited to see the films that come out of this springs hunt.
Quilts are cool. I agree with your wife, I don’t like confining bags. I usually use my sleeping bag as a quilt-I put my feet in the foot box and unzip the bag and use it as a quilt. But if it’s cold, I can always zip it up and use it as a mummy. Quilts are great until it gets really cold-then they’re miserable. I like the versatility of a bag-unzip it when you want that quilt feeling and then zip it when it’s freezing and you want that warm mummy feeling.
Thank you for the advice, I'll use some of this in August come opening day here in Washington. Good luck to you getting some nice boars this season! 💥🐻#StayGritty
Good to see you open to trying some Kuiu stuff again!! Looks like a ton of down layers and not much else though. Wouldn’t it make more sense to run a synthetic vest then your down over that? I feel like putting down on down on down without sizing way up, you’re just compressing the down underneath. Also the synthetic will stay warmer when compressed or if you happen to sweat on it. BTW. Get you a pair of the Kuiu peloton 97 zip off bottoms. They weigh probably as much as your tube sock method but are boot top pants. You can thank me later...
That is the only thing I dislike about the stone glacier pack, the lack of pockets for organization. They do make those pull out pockets, but a design of a bag with some additional easy access storage would be awesome. The frame is money on the Stone Glacier though.
Ok so I have a question. I am running a full length 7mag with a full size suppressor on it how do you think the stealthy hunter would work with it? I think more along the lines of not running the butt stock cover but running the other pieces for keeps the scope clean the dust out of my suppressor when I’m in a side by side.
love the gear dumps. makes me want to take a trip. would like to see a step by step video from start to finish on planning a trip, picking a location (one that you can actually hunt because where i am in texas its real confusing with public lands on how things are posted), how to buy tags or enter in a draw, gear prep, the journey to the location, check in stations ect...< this is what i think keeps most folks from going just because they dont know where to start and neither do i. i know you can find a ton of info online but when you read forums you have 30 Einsteins talking about how they went and got in trouble for this that or the other. it would just be nice to see someone on a video that actually knows what they are doing give us simpletons an education on that aspect of going on a public land hunt.
Brian, have you ever had any reliability issues with the steripen? What’s your preferred model? I’ve read a lot of reviews that say those pens can be somewhat gimmicky. Best to have a backup for water purifying.
Great question! There are two models that are good so far-the Classic and the Ultralight. The other models have failed is multiple times. The Classic is bombproof. So far, we’ve used the Ultralight for two years and have not had a failure. The Ultralight is rechargeable and weighs almost nothing so it’s what we recommend. We always bring water purification tablets/iodine as a backup but we’ve never actually been forced to use the tablets yet.
Tourniquet with “easy access” for when you slip on a blowdown and you fall on that nasty sharp branch that every blowdown seems to have! A pierced femoral artery can bleed you out in 2 1/2 minutes… but you’ll be unconscious long before then. Just saying. Also for rain gear, swap to a KoreTemp MEST poncho, lightweight, allows body breathing to stay dry…keeps you and your gear dry. (How heavy does your pack get when it’s saturated?) + The poncho can be a tarp, pack cover, rain gear….saving you from carrying those items.
Hey “ Big B” Great bag dump. Love the gator talk. Quick question on your sleep system what ground mat do you use? Much Thanks. Have a great Hunt. Be safe
Love your videos Brian I'm such a fan of your guys bear series and I'm so interested in black bears and I love hunting them with my bow my only problem is I can never find them
Eager to hear the results of your Western Mountaineering Badger bag. FYI: The exterior is their microfiber material which is hydrophobic… Resisting any water permeation.
I to am trying a different sleeping bag this year to compare against my Chilkoot 15. I am trying a Feathered Friends Swift 20 who knows is a wide mummy. Untreated 900+fill with a 20d shell. My issue with chilkoot is I’m 5’-9” and it’s 6’-5”. Just don’t need that long. Also don’t like 2/3 zip, I like full zip. I did get zipper caught and WM and FF have way better zippers. Now my one concern is using un treated down. How will it work getting into it with damp clothes? Only testing will tell.
I'm glad my buddy introduced me to your channel last year! I really like your non-biased reviews. Because of you we both got a pair of the Crispi Nevada boots and we love them! What set-up do you use for the boot fans? I couldn't find them after searching for them last night. Thanks in advance.
Hey Gritty this is SwaggyBowmen from Locals you should try the KUIU Tiburon pants they are KUIUs version of the Sitka Ascent pants and they are a lot quieter than the Ascent pants also try the Tiburon shirt it’s great too. Best warm weather gear by System by KUIU
Hi Brian Could you please let me know what brand those little lightweight zip bags your using for gear are? Luv all your content and hunts guys thanks Graham
Hey Brian, does your Peak Design clip ever "squeak", and if so, how'd you fix it? I was out doing some hiking with mine in just about the same configuration as yours and I thought I was being stalked by a chipmunk until I finally figured out what the heck the chirp/squeak was. Thanks!
Hey Brian, have you thought about getting the under the skin TRT pellets? One of the guys I served with got that instead of having to do the shots and he's good for like 6-9 months before needing to get a new pellet
What is that scope and barrel cover called ? And where did you get it ? How do you like it ? Love watching your shows , I’m planning my first elk trip and trying to get it all figured out, also how do you not get the diarrhea eating all that sodium from the ramen noodles ? Thanks
Your pack wont be ready till fall Brian! My tent and stove... Cause of you guys telling me to buy one, lol, took a million days! Oh well, nice stuff! Kill a bear, and hopefully its filmed! Cant! Wait! I'm hunting in a few weeks in N.ID when I leave work out of state! Oh man, so stoked! Enjoy!
@@GrittyGearAndPodcast . U will! Bears, I think, are pretty simple! Maybe not a monster, but in a few good days, I can kinda be picky! I'm preachen' to the choir! Lol. I'm still watchen' the vid! I was acually just looking up that sleep spray! Never heard of it! What kind do u use? If U don't mind?
Sponsorships are too limiting. With discount codes I can run whatever gear I want. If I sell I get paid, if I don’t sell I don’t get paid. Nobody tells me what I can use or not use. I don’t do exclusivity agreements. I haven’t been with Sitka for 3 hunting seasons. Frankly, they’ve been acting too woke for my taste.

Hi Brian
Could you please let me know what brand those little lightweight zip bags your using for gear are?
Luv all your content and hunts guys thanks
Graham
Hey Brian, does your Peak Design clip ever "squeak", and if so, how'd you fix it? I was out doing some hiking with mine in just about the same configuration as yours and I thought I was being stalked by a chipmunk until I finally figured out what the heck the chirp/squeak was. Thanks!
We haven't noticed ours squeaking much. We try to keep them clean... If that's possible lol.
What are the brand of your little pouches? For example your poo kit pouch
Will you go with a bigger size sock with your sock liners
I’m allergic to every thing wool! Gives me hives! What would you recommend?!!
Hey Brian, have you thought about getting the under the skin TRT pellets? One of the guys I served with got that instead of having to do the shots and he's good for like 6-9 months before needing to get a new pellet
I’ve thought about it. My Doc thinks the shots are better if I don’t mind the inconvenience. I’m gonna look into it tho.
Great video! What happened to your old bear hunts? Why are they not in your TH-cam anymore?
What is that scope and barrel cover called ? And where did you get it ? How do you like it ? Love watching your shows , I’m planning my first elk trip and trying to get it all figured out, also how do you not get the diarrhea eating all that sodium from the ramen noodles ? Thanks
Glad you made the switch to kuiu!
Good luck Sir 👍💯
Karimor special forces pack ! cant be beat !
👍
how big is that elk in the top riight corner? is that this years bull?

Brian and Daniel from Whiskey Vault look very similar. Could be brothers!
Watch out for those alcoholic swabs
Thats why I always have a dry camp
Ha ha! Oops! 😂
What about mystery ranch packs

Loll...sorry but "the gritty" ass care kit made me chuckle
#EssentialGear 😜
Gritty!!!
Looks like someone isn’t affiliated with Sitka anymore.
Or stone glacier lol
ZING!
@@joshyoder4076 - I was never with SG. Nice packs though. I use what I want.
@@GrittyGearAndPodcast isn't it funny how the "woke" are so blind 😂
