First video! A lot to learn, there is only music, please mute if you prefer no sound! Visit the blog for more in-depth info on oyas/ollas! farmhouse-bc.com/oya-and-ollas/
Never heard of an Oya/Ollas until I saw this video. I live in Seattle...although we are known to get a lot of rain, we do get dry spells in the summer. We recently had out of control fires and people lost power and had to evacuate their homes. Under control now but you can see the damage in various areas. I really think you did an awesome job on your first video and you are very inspirational. I’ve made one video with my grandsons on how to make a fairy garden house...they were checking it everyday for comments and like...we got a few but I don’t know how to do good videos. I am more of a doer and get it done than a teacher.....you are a teacher!!!!
Here is a huge virtual hug for all the kind comments, they are very motivational. Sometimes I wonder if they add value until I see how sweet your comments are. Thank you so much. I pray the fires get under control, I know CA is having issues too. I am learning this whole video thing on my own, guess I am "winging it" as I go lol. I do know one thing, you can make a great video but unless TH-cam pushes it out, no one see it, the more interaction comments and shares the more they push it out. Kind of like an oxi-moron. LOL Thank you again :)😍
You are so welcome! I have a video made years later that shows more information on oyas/ollas, if you would like to check it out? th-cam.com/video/iya-BWHh7m8/w-d-xo.html
Thank you so much. ❤️ It was my very first video and I know now it could have been better. Just last week someone was saying the music was Indian war music that she didn’t approve. I meant no disrespect to anyone. I live on a mountain and found it appropriate. The music is from the TH-cam library. Anyhoo, thank you for the kind words. I live in TN and fill it once a week. Less if we get a lot of rain and the soil is wet. More if we have a dry spell. The plants near them do so much better than without one. I used to live in FL, I remember it oh so well. 😊 thank you again, you made my day.
when i test pots like that, plugging up the hole and putting water in a pot, i can see that after a while, the pot has changed color on the outside. It looks 'damp' but i don't see any water-drops or something... So, i'm wondering is this'll work. The pots are terracotta and are unglazed. Is this normal and is this the case with your pots too ?
Yes, my pots are unglazed so the water is able to seep through the terracotta to moisten the ground. This does cause the pots to change to a darker color. I appreciate your question, and I hope this information is beneficial to you. Thank you so much for watching, and I will leave the link below to my gardening posts on my blog if you're interested in checking those out! farmhouse-bc.com/homesteading-101/gardening/

Thankyou! I was given a bunch of clay pots, now I know what to do with them. Easy watering and it saves a bunch of money.

Here goes! This is technically my very first TH-cam video, please be kind lol!
Great tutorial! I don't even have a garden and I want to make one!
Awe thank you-you made my day!
Try pushing the caulk bead with the tip, instead of trying to pull it.
Love your music... how long do you think before refilling? I live in Florida so dry and hot

Farmhouse-BC thanks for the quick reply! And the additional info... I’m debating this or drip or both??? 🥺 so many projects!
This “War music” gave me heart palpitation. Vivaldi 4 seasons would have been a better choice. Thank you for the video! Nice!
Thank you very much! Please note this was my very first video, learning as I go, apologies about the music. It's a learning curve.

It doesn't need water drops. The roots of the plants find the olla and attach to and around the olla. Plants always have a water source with an olla.
I think I would put a PVC “spout” on the top to make sure it doesn’t get dirt into it. ?
You definitely could do that! Great idea, but the handle is very heavy, it has never blown off. Thanks for the watch and comment :)
Thanks.
You're welcome and thanks for taking the time to comment :)
P.S.1: Also I am begging for you to teach how you made that primitive black crow on the white crackle paint base
I will be doing a "primitive" playlist very soon, I usually sew more in the fall and winter when it's cooler. Thank you for the suggestion.
Very nice
Thanks so much
Nice 😀
This was my first video, and I hope you enjoyed it! Thank you!
No forget it
Why?
