When you hear other octavists hit F1, it sounds like they're at the peak of their abilities, like an inhuman effort. This however... not only is it absolutely rock solid, he even made a little glissando from a lower note. This is just another level.
I had never imagined a single tone could make me cry in awe but Zlatopolsky did it. It's not just the contra F itself though - the entire choir and the chord progression all build up to this devout moment of clarity. I am not religious in any way but goddamn if this chord doesn't knock you out with its sheer power, then I don't know. The finality in the last Halleluja is nothing short of divine. Thank you for uploading this, I love listening and tearing up to it so, so much.
If you listen close you can actually hear the echo in the room after the huge F1....awesome....I seriously doubt anyone else could improve on that...😀😀😀😀
This is up there with one of the greatest natural F1's period. I mean, really, who will ever top Zlatopolsky anyway? Pulling off that Glissando it was just perfect and so, so powerful. One can only dream of replicating this 😅
translation of the text: Let us, who mystically represent the cherubim and chant the thrice-holy hymn unto the life-creating Trinity, now lay aside all earthly cares/ Amen/ That we may receive the King of all who cometh invisibly upborne by the ranks of the angelic warriors/Alelluia.
I think that the Russian audience listened to such music and 'growling' oktavists with greater imagination and generosity than we tend to. There's a place for antiseptic analysis of tonal qualities and vocal fry, but there's also a place for larger appreciation of the unique cultural sound of such choirs.
I agreee to a certain extent, but it goes much deeper than the Orthodox Church. One can be Russian and not an adherent to the Orthodox Church to feel a powerful and deep attachment to this wonderful music and the emotion with which it is conveyed.
@@petergoslett3656 It s all for the glory of Christ Jesus...thats why those peaces are moving ppl s spirit...we should worshipp Him in spirit..be blessed in Jesus Almighty name
I'd say that this music resonates with Russians non-adherent to the church in the same way that Christian music resonates with non-adherent Europeans. Despite any preconceived notions on religion, the pure beauty of this type of music surpasses any narrative or doctrine - it is simply undeniably perfect.
The note is extremely interesting. I see Zlat starts with unbelievable richness and constantly looses it. He's able to sing even C1, but everything below F has some kind of roughness, like it was sung without fuel. I just now realized it to myself. I guess it's common among oktavists, but only in case of Zlat pretty well observable, because he's the only one to sing such low.
+Departament EDC It's rare to hear a note produced by a natural instrument down below F1 that doesn't lose some quality. An organ can manage it with enormous 64 ft pipes, but even an organ only goes down to C1. Contrabassoons have a similarly growly sound down on those lowest notes. I think when you're using airflow to produce a note, it's difficult to maintain a smooth, full tone down below G or so.
+Departament EDC I made this private video to demonstrate this comparison: human voice notes down to E0. Let me know what you think. th-cam.com/video/bv6DHRZ9u7U/w-d-xo.html
The Oktavism Channel I play Tuba and if you have a REALLY great player behind the instrument its insane what the low range can sound like on it. Very dark, VERY FULL, very rich and big and projecting still. One of the best Tuba players in the world going down to an E0 with ease and perfect intonation. Click on the Audio Track "Pedal Point" www.hip-bonestore.com/20_Minute_WarmUp_Routine_for_Tuba_p/hbm183.htm He can go much lower I am sure, as it is rumored that some of the Best Tubists in the world today can play some etudes down 2 or 3 octaves from normal written range. Which is like a C0 and then going into the negatives. Now.. I dont know about negatives because that is just really rare to come by someone doing it. Never heard of such a thing. Yes, contrabassoons can go very low as well. But not very much so like the Tuba. The contrabassoon is a woodwind and therefore it has a limitation. With a brass instrument like the Tuba, it has no limit. The limit is the player. Contrabassoons generally go down to Bb0 and they have extensions available too, the lowest one officially goes down to an Ab0. BUT there is many Contrabassoonists that make their OWN extensions in the privacy of their homes and for own personal use. The lowest man made one I have seen is by Richard Bobo. I forgot EXACTLY what his extension went down to. I think an E0. Very low for contrabassoon, not natural for the instrument. Richard Bobo is on TH-cam. He has a channel dedicated to Contrabassoon and he is obsessed with getting lower and lower. He has on a huge journey, experiment to create a Sub-contrabassoon. Which is insane. It's been his project for so long. Which means that if he succeeds this instrument should be able to play easily in the negatives audibly. Insane right? Well.. I am just like both you, richardbobo, and bassmanadam. I love low frequencies and anything low I die for. I am currently a full time orchestral Tubist going to college for Music Performance in hopes to win a very big symphony job one day. I am also a very big avid vocalists. I have such a deep love and heart for Russian Orthodox music, liturgies, and sacred Russian music. Classical music is everything to me, I know just about more about it than anyone. Operas, Choral music, Band music, Orchestral, Brass Brand. I love a lot of composers and a lot of them have written some low stuff for their symphony works and opera works no doubt for bass singers! But I also have such a deep heart for Southern Gospel music. The southern gospel basses and community and atmosphere is like no other. Doesn't matter what technique they use and we get all analytical sometimes. But sitting back and enjoying their big bass voices im a mic and it's like huge under a quartet or full on vocal band. It's insane. Amazing things come from that group of people, and not just vocally. I would love to introduce you to the world of low brass music and excerpts. I could show you some new things I know you would LOVE and appreciate in the world of music. Anyways, figure out some way to message me and we can talk if you want. BUT THANKS for all you post. Really I mean it, I look forward to every single post you do. The oktavist voice melts my heart always.
@@TheOktavismChannel Not quite right on the organ pipes - if you play middle c on an 8ft pipe you'll get the same middle c as you get on a piano; so it follows that bottom c on an 8ft pipe is c2, on a 16ft pipe it's c1, 32ft c0, and 64ft bottom c is c-1.
+Wendel Borges de Oliveira I don't know the composer yet; I am researching this information. It is not a common setting of "Cherubic Hymn," but it is very beautiful!
Kerry F It's a bit infuriating that it is such a nice setting, but after a week of research I'm still unable to track it down. How is it not performed more often?!
It’s so sad to hear such overpowering beauty and the juxtaposition of the Russian state inflicting so much misery and death. Russia! you have lost your way in your morality and ethics. Instead of peace and a good life for all Russian citizens you have chosen misery, death and hell.
