Love seeing this set. My dad is a retired Alabama State Trooper, and he drove a 1972 AMC Javelin patrol car (the exact one in this set) back in the day. His car is still on display at the state HQ.

Great video! My brother and I had a set in the early 1980's, with Mini Coopers. Foolishly, we got my dad, and an uncle to put it together. They then told us that they were 'checking it worked properly', and we never got a proper go until the next day.

Loved this video by RetroBlasting, as it brought back fond memories of my childhood, where, for a brief few weeks, I enjoyed racing Scalextric around my bedroom floor. Brief, because the cars soon lost the ability to function, thanks to their poor wire braid connectors and brief because, like Michael, I soon turned my attention to action figures. Still, it was fun while it lasted. 😁

    Oh wow! Incredible video.
I started my scalextric journey way back when I was growing up, saved up my birthday, Christmas and pocket money to buy a middle of the road set, upgraded it later and set it up every weekend in my room.
Years later, now in my 50s I still have that scalextric bug, still have sets, track and cars that we get out sometimes and race with our grand children.
We have a spare room that I'm hoping to.convert into a permanent race track with scenery etc 👍😎

Thanks Michael. Here in Germany we have no scalextrix „tradition“. Here we race with the Brand „Carrera“. But the cars from both systems could be comparable and compatible. I have so many lovely memories about my time spending with my friends playing with Carrera toys. And that was the thrilling. To race against each other. That makes so much fun. And, listen kids. It is not a digital play. Yaeh, it‘s analog, not virtual. And that was part of the fun. To see the cars racing controlled by myself and my friends. Wow, a Delorean from Carrera. Wow, that makes sense. Keep up the good work. Stay safe. Stay healthy. The human malware is still around.

The Dukes of Hazzard racing set from the early eighties was my debut into slot car racing. I messed with it so much that I eventually wore out the rear tires off both vehicles. Finding replacements were impossible back then. My next slot car endeavor was a huge baja racing set with tan track when I was a young teenager. It had hills and boulders... and it was such a blast! Great video!

Thanks for this one! While I don't have a particular connection to scale extrics, there was at least one Christmas where my Dad was really excited about setting up a slot car track around our tree. I think he wanted to sort of make it a tradition. Sadly, this March will mark the year anniversary of his passing. I think about setting up a tree every Christmas, but never end up doing it. I think this year, I might end up doing it, and try to find a slot car set to run around the tree.
    Thanks again. This was awesome!

I used to own a Starsky Torino my cousin and I painted just like in the show. This was way before it became popular again and not many people recognized the car. Years later, after I'd had to sell it, ScaleXtric released a Starsky & Hutch slot car set. Didn't care how much it cost, I was taking it out of that Hungate's. Great video, man! Also, thanks for the Coyote love! That car is still #2 on my dream car list (after the Mach 5).

When I was a kid I wanted to race slot cars so badly at one point that I bought a 1 : 32 Cox Cheetah kit with all of my savings and built it really nicely. Had no track or place to ever run it, so all I could do was touch the brushes to my brothers model train transformer and watch the motor turn. I think at some point years later I gave it away or traded it.

i no longer have it, but close to 20 years ago i made in my back yard a GIANT sized figure 8, 4 lane slot car race track.. it was so big that you needed 4 people to play it.. one person at each turn to put the cars back on track when they came off.. each track had its own power supply independent.. the electric part was aluminum sheet metal and routed deep slots into wood... it was fantastic.. But it required 4 to play and it was OUTSIDE where weather got cold or hot or buggy.. than came X BOX and ended the reign of the mighty slots..

That set had a lot of play value IIRC, each truck had a station for loading & unloading cargo, and you could buy individual add-on vehicles & depots for more trucking action 🚚 plus if you removed the truck cabs, the chassis looked kinda like weird dragsters... at least to 10-year-old me 😄

I completely disagree with you Michael my dear friend.... a Aston Martin always needs rockets under the Foglights 😂 🚗 🚀 😉. fantastic video, there is something so nostalgic about scalextric that speaks to me right down to the smell that puts it among the best toys ever made right up there with Star Wars. I have so many amazing memories of night time racing with my very close friends at Christmas time, it makes me tear up 🥰👍. (edit) Tim Dalton is the best bond IMO, but I love the books and his interpretation is by far the best and nearest version to what Ian Fleming wrote.

Awesome video Retroblasting!! Living Daylights set could happen, Scalextric and Eon have a good licencing deal, mostly focused on the new movies . Eaglemoss released a great Collection of 1/32 Bond Cars including both Versions of the Aston v8 the volante AND the "winterised" AND the Lada police car with the láser damage. Bond Cars always sell well, Bond figures not so much, I would love to see a Retroblasting 007 Action figures video!

My father once brought 4 boxes of the same set when I was a kid and built a massive, elaborate race track in the basement. He even built a 5x10 table to hold the damn thing. You had to know what you were doing if you wanted to complete a lap without launching your car off the track with some of the tight turns. You couldn't just hold down the trigger if you wanted to win a race.

I'm currently watching the Bond films in order of release, and any 007 fan will have to admit that Dalton's contributions can not be overstated. Not only were his two films a fantastic call back to the Connery era, but I would also say that today's modern Bond owes them a toss of the hat as Dalton's Bond provided the blueprint for Craig's adventures.

This was a massive toy line in the UK. As you say made by Hornby originally who probably make the best toy trains in the world. There are numerous very good sets. The Rally set comes to mind and several JB 007 sets. The one I wanted and didn't buy was the Starsky and Hutch set. Believe it or not circa 2005 Marks and Spencer produced a Starsky and Hutch set that was made/licenced by Scalextric. Fully compatible and was priced around £50/$65. Top end slot cars. Scalextric have a new post on this channel. 2021 BTTF part 2 and Batmobile added now. They have released an Only Fools and Horses 3 wheeled van. As you like police cars check out the Jaguar XJS police car.

As a 1/24 scale slot car racer, I have owned many 1/32 scale cars as well. If you want some nice alternative 1/32 cars to look into, look up Fly. These cars are very detailed! On top of that, there are many motor, magnet and tire upgrades available!

I grew up with a Strombecker race set in the 70's. Very good, but the cars did flip off the track a lot. It didn't have that speed limiter switch, that would have been nice! I also remember having to bend the braided wire contacts away from the car every so often, so they make better contact with the track, that might help with the stopping issue.

growing up I was always torn between action figures and cars. I loved my hot wheels as much as I loved my x-men figs and gi joes. Somehow I ended up with a tyco slot car set in the late 90s. It had an s-turn, a wall climbing U-turn, and a 360 loop. I used to disassemble it and make custom mini tracks, usually using the loop to make a high speed oval because i wanted to see how fast they could go without flipping off the track. looking back I wish I still had it. They're surprisingly pricey on ebay today. :(

Ok I have to say those do look pretty cool. Those cars do look like they would be some family bonding fun.
As for the Gen X comment. I am Also a Gen X. As a kid growing up in the 80's I think I may have have had 1 friend that had a set of those. Where I lived, no one really had these. Except the one time my friend had these the only other time I saw these toys was at the mall around Christmas time.
I know there is a large group of people who enjoy these. And truthfully I can see the appeal, I just don't remember many people having these when I was a kid
