I just spotted a new species. They are called spoiled children. The species were thought to be extinct during the 1990's, but has since then experienced a population boom...(No offense, there are a few good kids out there)

When I was a kid I was walking around my backyard (10 acres) and ran across a woodpecker that was gigantic. My mom said I was crazy when she looked in her bird book to find it was a pileated woodpecker which had gone extinct.
Like a month later it was reported in the newspaper that the woodpecker was rediscovered.
Funny I found the bird first but as a kid I couldn't claim credit for it xD life huh?

I live in Australia, and in the state of Tasmania there are many people, farmers mostly, who have seen the Thylacine, or Tasmanian Tiger. When the Franklin River was dammed back in the 70's, a large portion of bushland became virtually out of reach of humans. Even though there were sightings before this, it is believed that the dam has in fact saved the species. There are environmental groups who have made a long trip to areas not visited by humans since the 70's, and although they did not get a visual of the animal, they found other evidence that gave them confidence that the Tiger is alive and well. I hope it stays far away from us humans, because we are the primary cause of these extinctions. Thank you for the information. It was fascinating.

This is unfortunately not corroborated by any photographic evidence, however I am not the first person to claim that there are still native indigenous British white humans living in urban East London, and hopefully with more funding and a further expedition we can verify that this now rare creature is in fact not extinct in it's once native stomping ground.

You have your facts wrong about the thylacine, it was declared extinct way before the 1980s, it was actually declared extinct in 1936 when the last thylacine died due to neglect. The javan tiger didn't go extinct in the 1990's either. As someone who has studied extinct animals, especially the thylacine, i can tell you that the information your giving out about some of these animals is quite wrong.

And then another.... And then a glimpse of a LIVING one with a super deep (but sadly not deep enough) camera..... It's so cool watching the evolution of these discoveries!! I can't wait for the day they find out WHY the giant squid never evolved to become smaller like its distant relatives.

Yep. Supposedly spotted here in Arkansas a few years ago, they have yet to truly confirm

There have been a few sightings and a few blurry pics and vids. However, it has not been possible to definitively confirm any of these (this is a good paper on what are considered to be some of the more reliable sightings in recent years: birds.cornell.edu/ivory/evidence/ScienceArticle05.pdf)
I've been on two IBW sighting/birding trips into some of these gorgeous hardwood swamps. I would highly recommend it. If you can get proof of an Ivory Billed Woodpecker, there is indeed a $50,000 reward available through the Nature Conservancy ( blog.nature.org/conservancy/2009/01/13/reward-posted-for-ivory-billed-woodpecker/ ). And if you aren't able to get proof of the bird, you will still have spent some time in some of the most beautiful habitat in this country and enjoyed the hospitality of some great (well, mostly) southern folk.
Merry Christmas, and love to all.

It could be true. 95% of the ocean has still not been discovered. Who knows what aquatic animals still exist in the deep.
