Hi Adrienne, I'm a teacher and I live for your videos. They have helped me immensely, especially with the kindergarten and younger kids. Sequencing can be difficult, and I have a few students who don't pay attention well. I've found that games and using props like you have makes a world of difference. Thanks for all the advice.

Two-step directions are so important. It is so stressful for the child when they enter a class and cannot even follow one-step directions. Unfortunately, we see this all the time. I have even seen this as late as third grade. Like you, we are always looking for new ways to make it fun and engaging for children.

YES! I agree! It is so important to teach two-step directions at an early age. I am so glad you enjoyed the video! :):):)

I have a toddler and an infant home, and before my baby was born my toddler and I spent a lot of time working on skills and alphabet and numbers but I’ve kind of slacked off since I’ve had my hands more thought. We will definitely be doing a modified version of this game today. Thank you so much for sharing as all ways

I’m pretty sure my just turned 2 yr old would listen to you bc you're pretty, fun, and very engaging, especially for children. However, I'm Mom and my child is extremely stubborn and he would immediately be competing to grab the boxes trying to control them himself. This actively would quickly become a power struggle BUT i will try this and hopefully it'll go more smoothly than I'm imagining

Hi adrienne thanks for the amazing videos, much appreciated and enjoyed.
My baby has just learnt how to say numbers from one thru six by herself and few other words in my native mother tongue. Unfortunately it’s very difficult for her to sit down and play with me games like these. Any tips you can give me to help her sit and play like the way you do in the videos? Btw she is 22 months, loves blocks and puzzles.

Hi Adrienne, I'm a single parent, own two businesses, and live a very healthy and active life style. I also have two toddlers (3yr girl, 1 yr boy). My daughter has been able to say, identify, or point to a spoken letter since she was 1.5 yrs. It was difficult with just one but the demands of my career/life style, I've fallen short of working more with my son. First thank you for the past advice! That's kind of how I found you and liked want you do! Secondly your video about following instructions was perfectly timed since the nannies I've hired have been very sporadic and today I've really needed the help of my daughter to follow my directions bc my son is teething and can be a hand full!

    • @LearnWithAdrienne
      @LearnWithAdrienne  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi! Kudos to you owning 2 businesses and parenting 2 little ones! I am so glad my video has inspired you! Have your nannies watched my videos, too? Some families have told me that they share my videos with their babysitters, so that they will do creative activities with their kids while they are watching them...I thought that was a fun idea! Hope you are having a great week. Hang in there with your son teething...that's so hard!

I've forward your videos a few times. You really have some great ideas that really make a lot of sense. Before I started to subscribe I was doing some of the suggestion with my daughter so her speech and cognitive ability are very well developed. I also work with many SLPs and audiologist (one of my businesses manages several small private clinics through out TX, CO, and NM, the other business is more of a hobby and used for ag tax exempt). You're teaching style, patience, and warm nature really are far above the rest. Much respect and admiration for what you are doing to help several parents! Great work!

Thank you very much! Your videos and your course (about bath activities) are so helpful. My twin daughters are 3 years old. They diagnosed with ASD. They recently began to say first words, but usually they say only first syllable even in simple words (for example "do" instead of "dog" or say things very unclear (for example "obei" instead of "strawberry" - no "str", no "r"). Could you please advise how to improve their pronunciation? Anyway thank you very much and Happy New Year.

    • @ioanamanuela
      @ioanamanuela 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Everytime my daughter mispronounce a word I repeat it correctly and on syllables, after a while she pronounces them correctly. Our psychiatrist told us she doesn't have ASD, but has a few elements of ASD. Like speech delay, inconstant visual contact and a stereotype ( drawing circles everytime she catches a pen). We were already going to therapy and she said to continue what we were doing and that it's very good we started early. She's 3y and 3m old, has about 150 words in her vocabulary, but still doesn't understand everything I'm asking her.

Hey Anny! So glad you are enjoying the videos! It sounds like you are doing a great job of looking for resources that will help your daughter learn to talk! You are definitely on the right track. After reading through your comment, there are so many things that you can do to help your child talk more.
My TH-cam videos show lots of strategies and techniques, but my Online Class brings it to the next level by walking you step-by-step through the exact building blocks of communication that I take my speech therapy clients through to help them go from only saying a handful of words to talking in sentences. The Online Class is way more structured than my TH-cam videos, including checklists and ways for you to track your child's progress.
I recommend you look into my Online Video Class called "The Steps to Help Your Child Learn To Talk." The goal of the class is to give you the skills needed to plug in the speech strategies into your other daily life with your toddler and to implement the building blocks, strategies, and concepts during meal time, car riding time, play time, outdoor time, etc. You can learn more about it here and see if it would be a good fit for you and your child: www.learnwithadrienne.com/steps-to-help-your-child-learn-to-talk

She said something about that around 5:20 in the video. I'm sure you're talking about more directions like go get play with your toys or don't touch that plant either way you would do the same thing. No silly! PLAY with your toys not jump on the couch. Lets's play with our toys instead. that's much more fun.

Even at home they will get asked to do things in sequence. "Go put on your shoes and get in the car. " "Go put your toy away and then grab your dishes so I can fix your lunch" these skills aren't just for public schools... they are for life. Love the ideas, but not everyone uses public schools while everyone uses these skills.

It sounds like you are doing a great job of looking for resources that will help your daughter learn to talk! You are definitely on the right track. After reading through your specific question, there are so many things that you can try to help your child talk more.
In my TH-cam videos, I teach a variety of strategies to help children learn to talk, but in my online class for children, I teach much more in-depth, revealing the actual step-by-step system I use with my own speech therapy clients to get them from saying only a handful of words to talking in sentences and having conversations. My online class is structured with checklists and printouts where you can track your child's progress.
So zooming out, my TH-cam videos teach the “what” and my online class teaches the “how.” The goal of the online class is to give you the skills needed to plug in the speech strategies into your daily life with your child and to implement the building blocks, strategies, and concepts during meal time, car riding time, play time, outdoor time, etc.

Hi Adrienne, I have a situation that is a bit complicated to explain but I'd still go ahead and write it down over here. Really hoping to get whatever little help or guidance that I could get.
I've been out of university for almost 8 years now and I got a really poor CGPA of 2.3 owing to personal issues. My Master's program was 'Special Education'. Now a decade back, the duration of Bachelor's program in my homeland was two years instead of four which means, internationally, my Bachelor's and Master's degree combined are regarded as having only done Bachelor's. I then went on to do a 15 month long Diploma in Speech Therapy which included 19 courses and got 64% which again is'nt good enough for me to be able to apply for any Master's Program.
I no longer have the option to go back to University and retake the courses with low GPA's because I am not based in my home country anymore. I live in Saudi Arabia at the moment where expatriates are not allowed to get admission in their Universities. Which means that I am only left with an option to enroll in an online Program from scratch in order to be eligible to apply for a Master's in Speech Therapy Program from Canada.
Now I need help with choosing a program that would be accepted by the Masters SLP programs in Canada. My first concern is whether I would have to go through a full four years of Bachelor's program in order to be eligible for the Master's program or could I apply for a two year Master's program that would further make me qualify for the SLP Master's program in the future. Please pour in other options that I might be able to use in my case.
And lastly, my concern is that whatever online degree I take for me to be eligible for a Master's degree, it would take me anywhere between 2-4 years. The. If I include another three years for the Master's degree and the Clinical Fellowship year, I would be around 38-39 years old. Is that too late for me to just start out in the field of SLP as a fresh graduate? I would really appreciate any help that I could get relevant to my specific case.
Thank you very much in advance.

Hey Maria! Thanks for sharing your situation. What is your reason for wanting to become an SLP instead of going forward with a career in Special Education?
I know people who have become SLPs later in life also, and they had really strong reasons for becoming an SLP. Before you make any education decisions, really determine if it is the route you want to go. If it is, I don't think 38-39 would be too late to start in the field and I would go for it if you want!
Something else to look into is if you could be a Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA). There is less schooling required for that, but typically less pay, also.
Just some thoughts for you :)

Hi Adrienne, I love watching your videos and always try to incorporate your tips but my 20 month old really doesn't seem like she ever wants to participate in the activities and just wants to do her own thing. For example she'll grab the cups and start stacking them instead of putting the fruit inside like i asked her! Or she'll do it twice and then get bored and move to stacking them! How much should I be asking of her at this age?

Have you talked with your doctor ?

    • @Catherine-bk4zv
      @Catherine-bk4zv 5 ปีที่แล้ว

*This is long detailing my experience helping my toddler speak*
1st- non response issue. Best to check with your doctor. They made sure her hearing was good and also played games to observed responsiveness. Turns out it was just "selective hearing" she was just igonoring us. So knocking or a clucking sound tends gets her attention and we say her name. When she starts to turn around or make eye contact we praised her. This encouraged her to always look to see what happy reward she would get.
Speech delay: At 18 months my little one only said uh-huh, dada, jaja, and baba. Doctor referred us to speech therapy. However since we were in the middle of relocating and getting settled she didnt get in to therapy until 22 months. By that time she was up to 9 words.
In the 1st session they played in a way that required her to ask for game pieces or toy pieces by using her hand to sign the word "more" in order for her to get a new piece. Each piece is described and she is asked to say it. Even it she doesnt do it she is still required to sign "more", or say the word "more" in order to continue. If she did nither you would model it yourself, then take her hands to show her then proceed. If she refused all of it the game is over and therapist would ask "are you all done?" if she responded no, she encourage her to play following the rules, if she refused she would announce " All Done" and sign it with her hand, then have her clean up the toys as she sang a clean up song.
I took this and practiced with puzzles, mr. Potato head, pretend cooking with toy food, etc. Within a week she was signing both the word "more" and "all done" regularly. By week 3 session she had started saying more words from the games we played. By week 5 of therapy she went from 9 words to 36 and still progressing. She is 24 months now and has about 50 words and uses pictures to help commicate what she cant say yet.
      Hope this helps.

Hi Somanchi Sri Ramya! Thanks for your question. I am going to post a long list of things and I want you to count up how many of these points sound like your daughter. Let me know how many of these describe your daughter. That will help me know what advice to give you.
•Does not consistently respond to her name.
•Cannot tell you what she wants with words or gestures.
      •Doesn’t follow directions.
•Seems to be deaf at times.
•Seems to hear sometimes, but not others.
•Doesn’t point or wave bye-bye (past 15 months) or use other gestures such as shaking his head “yes” or “no” appropriately and back and forth in conversation.
•Used to say a few words or babble, but now she doesn’t.
      •Throws intense or violent tantrums.
•Has movement patterns, such as flapping arms or shaking body, especially when excited.
•Shows other visual behaviors, such as staring repeatedly at spinning wheels on a toy or shifting her eyes to the side as she runs.
•Seems hyperactive much of the time; is always “on the go.”
•Is often uncooperative or oppositional during daily routines.
•Doesn’t know how to play with toys. Might spin or line them up excessively.
      •Doesn’t smile when smiled at.
•Doesn’t make eye contact. She seems to look right through/past you.
•Gets “stuck” on things over and over and can’t move on to other things.
•Seems to prefer to play alone.
•Gets things for herself only, without asking for help.
•Is very independent for her age.
•Seems to be in her “own world.”
      •Seems to tune people out.
•Shows very little interest in other children.
•May interact inappropriately with other children.
      •Walks on her toes.
•Shows unusual attachments to toys, objects, or schedules (e.g., always holding a string or having to put socks on before pants).
•Spends a lot of time lining things up or putting things in a certain order, and gets upset if this is disrupted.
•Has delayed speech-language skills when compared to other children of the same age.
•Is a very picky eater. May eat only three or four different foods.

This is what the Qur'an says about the birth of Mary and Jesus and what the Children of Israel did
[Mention, O Muḥammad], when the wife of ʿImrān said, "My Lord, indeed I have pledged to You what is in my womb, consecrated [for Your service], so accept this from me. Indeed, You are the Hearing, the Knowing."
    - Saheeh International
But when she delivered her, she said, "My Lord, I have delivered a female." And Allāh was most knowing of what she delivered, and the male is not like the female. "And I have named her Mary, and I seek refuge for her in You and [for] her descendants from Satan, the expelled [from the mercy of Allāh]."
    - Saheeh International
So her Lord accepted her with good acceptance and caused her to grow in a good manner and put her in the care of Zechariah. Every time Zechariah entered upon her in the prayer chamber, he found with her provision. He said, "O Mary, from where is this [coming] to you?" She said, "It is from Allāh. Indeed, Allāh provides for whom He wills without account."
    - Saheeh International
At that, Zechariah called upon his Lord, saying, "My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication."
    - Saheeh International
So the angels called him while he was standing in prayer in the chamber, "Indeed, Allāh gives you good tidings of John, confirming a word from Allāh and [who will be] honorable, abstaining [from women], and a prophet from among the righteous."
    - Saheeh International
He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when I have reached old age and my wife is barren?" He [the angel] said, "Such is Allāh; He does what He wills."
    - Saheeh International
He said, "My Lord, make for me a sign." He said, "Your sign is that you will not [be able to] speak to the people for three days except by gesture. And remember your Lord much and exalt [Him with praise] in the evening and the morning."
    - Saheeh International
And [mention] when the angels said, "O Mary, indeed Allāh has chosen you and purified you and chosen you above the women of the worlds.
    - Saheeh International
O Mary, be devoutly obedient to your Lord and prostrate and bow with those who bow [in prayer]."
    - Saheeh International
That is from the news of the unseen which We reveal to you, [O Muḥammad]. And you were not with them when they cast their pens as to which of them should be responsible for Mary. Nor were you with them when they disputed.
    - Saheeh International
[And mention] when the angels said, "O Mary, indeed Allāh gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary - distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near [to Allāh].
    - Saheeh International
He will speak to the people in the cradle and in maturity and will be of the righteous."
    - Saheeh International
She said, "My Lord, how will I have a child when no man has touched me?" [The angel] said, "Such is Allāh; He creates what He wills. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, 'Be,' and it is.
    - Saheeh International
And He will teach him writing and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel
    - Saheeh International
And [make him] a messenger to the Children of Israel, [who will say], 'Indeed I have come to you with a sign from your Lord in that I design for you from clay [that which is] like the form of a bird, then I breathe into it and it becomes a bird by permission of Allāh. And I cure the blind [from birth] and the leper, and I give life to the dead - by permission of Allāh. And I inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses. Indeed in that is a sign for you, if you are believers.
    - Saheeh International
And [I have come] confirming what was before me of the Torah and to make lawful for you some of what was forbidden to you. And I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, so fear Allāh and obey me.
    - Saheeh International
Indeed, Allāh is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is the straight path.'"
