I have been listening to Mr. Laws since high school. I am 60 now and this music sounds even better. Guess I had to live a little to really appreciate it all. Thanks Ron for the beautiful timeless music over the years ✌🏽
My man Mr Ronnie Laws this have always been one of my favorite songs I still play in my set, but I'll never play it as good as Ronnie Laws because it's his song!!!!
Ronnie Laws is the incipient King of Smooth Jazz along with Grover Washington. I am a follower of his since his 'Fever' debut LP/CD. Neither his personable sound-voice nor his individualised style has been modified or changed. Despite his successful, he is, for me, an artist who is meritorious of much much more credit, unlike his elder brother Hubert, monarch of "Jazz" flute. As an instrumentalist of an older instrumentalist brother - saxes, flutes, trumpet and voice - I can identify with Ronnie's being under-mentioned, or even under-rated. And, Ronnie is one of the best singers out there . His vocal and instrumental tonal control is faultlessly Smooth. His lyrical expressiveness is decorated with emotional effervescence and fruitful onomatopoeia. I am embarking on assembling a collage of Ronnie's romantic Ballads delivered exclusively on soprano saxophone. Also, I shall of Grover's too.
AS A TEENAGER THERE WAS A BAND ACROSS THE STREET FROM ME AND THEY USED TO PLAY THIS SONG SEVERAL TIMES A DAY... AND I THINK THAT GUY NAME WAS RONNIE AS WELL..THAT WAS 91ST STREET IN LOS ANGELES BETWEEN BROADWAY AND MAIN.. LOL
@@Shyblues Right? The guy was super cool. He kept coming back, saying "You still there? I have things I have to do, but I will find it for you". Great childhood moment.
Lest we not forget George Howard from 63rd and Washington!. A great jazz player, gone too soon. "Stepping Out" album is still one of my favorite and I have the vinyl.
m.th-cam.com/video/GXeVt2RBcl4/w-d-xo.htmlHi can I ask you a question about BET on Jazz please? I'm looking for someone who can recognize the song from one of the BET on Jazz commercials or the Impressions show. It is from 1999-2000.
So-so rendition. The guitar solo is very generic, Smooth Jazz-esgue sounding. The album versions of Laws' work from the mid-late '70s is first-rate, memorable and I still listen to it.
I hear Ronnie Laws' slight grunts/moans throughout this recording. Is he in real pain because he doesn't wear a neck strap for his soprano? Or is something else going on??
before Najee, before boney james, before Kenny g, there was Ronnie law. I love and respect you sir.
I came up during that time too. I wasn't appreciated in the jazz circle. They called it bubble gum music. Now it's smooth jazz
True dat!
