    I was 10 in 70 and it blew my little mind! Took it to school and the music teacher played it for the class. I took a lot of albums to class and she played every single one! Grand Funk, Sabbath, Mountain etc. She was cool as hell man✌🤘

      That’s so badass! I’m 26 and a HUGE fan of all those bands! Early Grand Funk and Mountain is INCREDIBLE! Sabbath will always be my favorite though!

    It still astounds me that any of Sabbath's 70s catalog was made that early. They were indeed the inventors of true HEAVY metal. (And yes,I am old enough to have heard this when it was released and I was surprised and captivated by it).

    My favorite Black Sabbath line up!! Ozzy On vocals, Tony Iommi lead guitar, Geezer Butler on Bass & the amazing Bill Ward on drums 🔥 When I first heard this I thought WOW 🔥🔥 I need this album!! I still have it. This song is off their 1970 album “Paranoid” Pure fire ♥️

      I personally consider it the only Sabbath lineup. I love Dio, but their sound changed so much it was more Rainbow heavy than Black Sabbath

    Got a loan of the Paranoid album which Iron Man is on during the school lunch break. Ran home put it on my mums mono record player and she freaked out thinking I had suddenly become a devil worshipper or something. We had never heard music like it- she hated it, I was hooked and still am 53 years later at the age of 67. Great reactions man

    First time I heard this song was after I bought the album, because I liked "Paranoid". "Iron Man", like "Paranoid", was another instant hit with me. It was so heavy but melodic at the same time. The multiple transitions all have their unique hooks. That's something I always liked about Black Sabbath, the way they throw wonderful transitions into their songs, speeding up, slowing down, getting heavy and then light again. Keeps you wondering what they're going to do while you listen. Good job, SalvoG!

    It's still heavy to this day. Sure, Metal has gotten "heavier" since then but this is timeless type of heavy. One that set a tone for an entire genre. To me, this will always be heavier than the metal we have today.

    For me, it went Blue Cheer, then Sabbath's first album, then the second. I was more surprised with Blue Cheer's heavy sound but Sabbath's first album brought heavy to a completely different and more powerful level. Blue Cheer's cover of Summertime Blues was on the Billboard charts in 68.

    I was 15 when I started to listen to Black Sabbath music. Now you have to think back, because nobody dissected the story or lyrics, we just listened to the songs, the vibrations and how good we felt with the beat and rhythms. In that time, era there were many types of music like there is now days. Not everybody was listening or digging for this kind of music, far Out Man! Everyone listened to soft rock ( Elton John, Johnny Mathis, Bee Gees, Cher) so on and soul music (Aretha Franklin, Dina Ross). Only a select few listened to this kind of music. You only heard it in pool parties or car show gatherings, parks and beach parties, never anywhere else, and yeah you could smell "Mary Jane" in the air. I was into this and very heavy metal and I'm 68 and still listen to this when I can, when I'm alone from my G'Kids and I also put on my headphones and remember the times, sometime smelling the sweetness of the air! I'm a respectable Man at work, Sr. Equipment Technical Technician, NHRA Safety Safari Drag Racing Official and an accomplish author with a few Motion Picture connections to my stories but you'd never know my Wild Music Selection going back to the 70's - cheek it out bleed bro! Can You Dig It!

    I've been on board since 1st album. Paranoid obviously was killer. MASTER OF REALITY really was a game changer in hard rock. Tony tuned down to C# the lyrics went to another level.

  • @zachmoore4550
    @zachmoore4550 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The guitar player lost some finger tips on his fret hand. He had to tune down for comfort reasons. Thus the “heavier” sound was born

    • @thesongremainsthesameLZ
      @thesongremainsthesameLZ 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      True! but one thing a lot of people get wrong is they think he tuned down from the beginning when actually he didn't start tuning down until their 3rd album, Master Of Reality, that's when things got really heavy! The debut album and Paranoid were both entirely in Standard E tuning, but Tony used lighter gauge strings to compensate for his finger tips (Still sounded so heavy). He still used relatively light gauge strings after discovering down tuning but not as light as he started off with. The more you know!

    awesome, if you want to continue on the Sabbath vein, I suggest "Fairies Wear Boots", I was working in a rock band in the early 80s and we had a jazz drummer, awesome drummer. He was playing rock to make money, Fairies was his suggestion to the band repertoire. Tough song to play.

    Our parents frownded on this band back in the 70s, calling it "drug" music...promoting sex, drugs and rock and roll...but the lyrics to most of the songs always dealt with events of the time...with the few exceptions...but all in all, our parents didn't look past the album cover for the most part...but we knew great music when we heard it...I'm thrilled to see that they are still being discovered, and appreciated...Rock ON!!

    Nothing like this existed in 1970. No one was doing anything like this, so I and every other kid I knew were all blown away. Best of all, the critics hated them. I strongly urge you to react to a lyric video of Into the Void, one of Iommi's masterpieces (1971) and Symptom of the Universe (in which Tony Iommi started thrash in 1975).

    I was too young when this came out to fully appreciate how incredible and special Black
    Sabbath was. I was born in 1955 and was just starting to really collect music (Capital Tape and Record Club) when Black Sabbath came to life. I certainly recognized that it was different but didn't know that it was totally unique.
    I was too inexperienced. But NOW, Black Sabbath and especially Tony Iommi is my favorite and has been for a long time. Iron man didn't stand out very much (for me) from all the other awesome music on the "Black Sabbath" and "Paranoid" albums. Soon followed by "Master of Reality". I think just about any song on those first 3 albums is as good or better than Iron Man.

    Yeah, that was when music was the best. Just think of the bands that were putting out albums at that time, all the greats : Led Zep, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, The Who, Eric Clapton and I know I am leaving out a whole heck of a lot of others, but you get the idea. I turned 10 in 70, and was lucky enough to have an older brother that put me on to music, and I STILL think it is the best music ever!! The whole Paranoid album (from which this song is from) blew my mind, I went right out and bought it!! It was under $10 CDN and I still have that album today!!!!

Just accept the fact it is a must. :-) Iron man is mild for Sabbath. :-) But seriously, quit spoiling yourself and just listen to the first 6 albums. my initial reaction. sabbath was a hendrix ripoff. hendrix was the guitar god from 1967 until his death in 1970. his other worldly guitar licks influenced EVERYBODY, especially british bands, with his psychedilic stretching. nobody had done what hendrix was doing. and his riffs spurred the heavy metal movement. i was 18 in 1970 and when i first heard black sabbath, i dismissed them as just a hendrix wannabe band. none of their riffs could even catch hendrix's mastery. i always say thet jim hendrix is the father of metal because of the outer space heavy riffs he came up with. i was there, i was alive, i saw hendrix in toronto in 1969. and i can say from authority that sabbath was a hendrix ripoff. hell, even zakk wylde named his first born son Hendrix.
