I would have been teary eyed if I was there. Being on the QM2 alone made me emotional. Imagine seeing all 3 queens together .. that would be amazing :)
This video was nothing short of breathtaking in every respect. Thank-you so much for sharing this with all of us here on TH-cam. As an American residing in Chicago, we certainly don’t see this kind of maritime activity. You having captured this very special sequence of magnificent ships gave me a front door view, and I’m deeply grateful. God bless you always! Job exceedingly well done. 😄👏👏👍🌹❤️🥰
Had the pleasure of being on the bridge of all three. Wonderful ships and the modified Vista design gets too much hate but as a deck officer they were wonderful and really needed for Cunard to have Panamax capable itineraries with a true and proper blue water capability. The QM2 though was just in a league of her on despite a few little things here and there which just added to her personality. Standing watch I never had so much confidence in a ship before or since like the QM2. Pity life gets in the way of things sometimes, I don't miss it but I do!
RCL or MSC or NCL or Cunard’s QV and QE …. all are modernized and beautiful … But elegant and graceful QM2 is the true Queen of the ocean, indeed ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Was on the P&O Oriana in '65 - San Francisco to Sydney. As a kid, I had so much fun running around this ship. We were docked next to the Canberra at one port; what a stunning ship. Went SF-Sydney on the Queen Elizabeth in '18 as a tribute cruise. Such a beautiful ship. Cunard rocks!

I miss the classic lines of the ocean liners. I cruised on ships that looked like ships and on these mammoth things that look like shopping malls/condos on the water. The old ocean liners were far better.
Certainly, there is an argument for and against the newer, ever larger, cruise ships. Many people do prefer the smaller ships. Whilst QM2 is considerably larger than QE2, they are both larger than the original ships used by Cunard. One advantage would be that QM2 can operate better in rough seas. She can also offer more facilities and more choices to keep you entertained during your voyage. The drawback of any larger ship, compared to a smaller ship, is the loss of personal touch. It's always nice to know all the staff and crew names, as well for them to know you by your name. It helps you to feel more welcome. Each is targeted at a different market.
When I was a kid we sailed to Europe on the SS United States and my grandparents had sailed the SS America, SS Constitutiuon and the Queen Elizabeth. To me those are the great ocean liners that these new ships can't even compare to.
Sadly none of those is now running. The SS Constitution sank under tow to the breakers in November 1997. I'm not sure where or if she's diveable. I have found a listing on a wreck site, but there are no references to where she is or her state, as there are for many others ships which are diveable. The RMS Queen Elizabeth caught fire and sank off Hong Kong. What was left of her was attempted to be recovered and her final remains are now buried in Hong Kong harbour. The SS United States I believe is still in Philadelphia slowly rotting. There is a group who are wanting to purchase her and may her into something, but they will need a lot of support and money to complete their task. I wish them well. On the positive side, RMS Queen Elizabeth 2 has this week been in the news. She's finally been opened up in Dubai as a floating hotel. There is much more work to be completed, but apparently, the doors are already open for business for anyone who is interested.
Yeah... I know about those. Constitution was being towed to be scrapped. It's a more fitting end to go to the bottom of the ocean than the indignity of being scrapped. I've made donations to the SS United States conservatory. Hopefully she can be saved and made into a hotel/museum. A lot of jobs could be had just through the restoration and then operations of a hotel.
I was in Bahrain years ago just before Ramadan time and I was working in a Drydock and I saw a huge passenger liner like these ones on here coming into the Port which at that time was the Mina Salman Port and I said to this old seadog Englishman who had been in Bahrain for about 40 years or so what country do you reckon that this liner is from?....he replied laughing his head off that this is not a passenger liner but an old converted oil Tanker with 04 or 05 decks been added to accomodate sheep and cattle....in this case its sheep coming from New Zealand for Ramadan Muslim consumption....and as she past where we were standing the smell of it confirmed that it was indeed a sheep ship from New Zealand. So every time I see these modern cruise ships they remind me of that sheep transporter I saw in Bahrain.
No, it was 175 years after the first Cunard ship sailed across the Atlantic. At one time I was hoping that they would have done something this year. Nothing was organised but with COVID-19 it would all have been cancelled.
Yes they do, but don't ask me what they were. I'd suggest using Marine Traffic to see which ones are around Southampton Docks. www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/home/centerx:-1.419/centery:50.889/zoom:13
+Here is My Comment Actually not weird, because QM2 is an ocean liner, made for crossing the Atlantic ocean on a shedule. QV and QE are just ordinary cruise ships, made for shorter trips in calmer waters.
Anthem of the Seas ... well, it's big. But that's it. It's not beautiful!! Just big. Cruising isn't romantic anymore. Give me the Pacific Princess (The Love Boat) any day ... Oh, wait .. that's right .. they sold her to a Turkish scrapyard and she's gone ... but the parade of the 3 Queens was very enjoyable. Thanks : )

@@thunderlord5213 Fun fact: A lot has been learned since Titanic was launched in 1911. Some more fun facts... The manufacture of steel has improved considerably; we no longer use coal to power the engines in modern liners; modern ships use various electronics to help with navigation; there are various methods for watching Icebergs and where they are in the sea, including RADAR; Titanic had 16 davits that could carry 48 lifeboats but only carried 20 (all open to the elements & with oars) with a capacity of 990 occupants (Titanic could carry 2,435 passengers & 892 crew), whereas Queen May 2 carries 24 lifeboats and a number of liferafts with the combined ability to carry all the passengers (2,695) and crew (1,253), with room to spare; Titanic was 269.1 m long, with a beam of 28.2 m and had 10 decks; Queen Mary 2 is 345.03 m long, with a beam of 41 m and has 12 decks; Titanic could travel at 21 knots, Queen Mary 2 has a top speed of 30 knots. Today Carnival Corporation & PLC owns Cunard Line, along with eight other brands. Currently Carnival has a combined fleet of 104 ships, with orders for more. Yes, White Star and Cunard merged in 1933/1934 due to falling passenger numbers. They were once great rivals. Titanic was the second of three of her class. Queen Mary 2 is the only one of her class. Her hull is thicker than any cruise ship as she is designed to navigate the Atlantic on a regular basis in all weathers. The first, Olympic, was scrapped in 1937. The third, Britannic, was sunk by a mine (not torpedoed) during The Great War on 21st November 2016.
I had to laugh at the title “3 queens” video title as an older gay man, as I’m always getting called a “queen” by my straight friends - but I do hope that these wonderful ships are never used for those horrible all-gay cruising party voyages, as it’s just not my thing - when I go home from where I live in the U.K. via Holyhead to Dublin, I go on the Irish Ferries Ulysses and WB Yeates which are classed as cruise ferries and in recent years, Dublin Port has been enlarged to take cruise ships - given the chance, living in Manchester, I’d sooner join a cruise ship at Liverpool (old port) and make the crossing to Dublin despite the 8 hours crossing time, as it was in the days before air travel, which I hate
Call me old fashioned , but as impressive as they are , they just look like Chinese Bulk carriers. Is it really beyond the wit of man to design a super liner that actually looks like a Liner ?
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" Margaret Wolfe Hungerford. There are several restrictions for building a large ship. For example, the width of the Panama Canal, being able to moor in a port, the purpose of the ship (i.e. container, passenger, RORO, military), the seas in which she'll be used. This determine the main look of a ship. All ships will have some aspects which are common between types but at the same time will have unique features. For example, modern container ships may have a bulbous point under the water at the bow, and a few screws on the stern, just like a cruise ship, but it won't typically have a bow thuster. The streamlined body which both share is for a good reason. They both sail in the open seas. However, the positioning of the bridge varies for container ships, but will always be near the bow for a cruise ship or liner. What you see on the outside is only the skin. Inside there is so much more. A container ship, without the containers, is nothing more than a hollow void, with a few walkways, somewhere for the crew to live and work and the machinary to help the ship move around and secure itself as required. A passenger ship will also have the machinary, crew areas, etc., but instead of the empty void, it will instead have the hotel rooms (aka Cabins) and entertainment areas for those on holiday as it is also an all-inclusive resort that moves on the oceans. Liners of old fell out of favour with the introduction of the Jet Liner. Suddenly people could travel the oceans in hours, instead of days or weeks. The Ocean liner market just dried up as the Jet age took off. A new market developed as more took to going for a cruise, so the cruise ship business took off. Over time this has become increasingly popular to the extent that some huge ships are now able to sail the world's oceans. Many would normally be sailing around seas such as the Mediteranean Sea, Caribean Sea and Pacific Ocean. As I write this, sadly none are operating and most are anchored up in various parts of the globe.
Terry Turner Some how I suspect that you've never been on a Cunard Ship. This video is aimed at those who are interested in seeing the current three Cunard Ships as they left Southampton, along with Anthem of the Seas and Balmoral. The kind of images that the UK Press paint of Benidorm are very far removed from the kind of images that Cunard paint with their Britannia Service. Should you behave in the kind of manner many Brits do in Benidorm, I suspect that you'll find yourself getting off at the first port of call.
ScubaGirl68 I odn´t doubt it.. I greatly dislike Benidorm.... I was only joking ... it would be very nice to travel on one of these...... might even spend regtirement living on one LOL
Your point being? Sadly the last cruise ship to be built in the UK was launched in 1972. It was originally named Vistafjord. Whilst it would be desirable for the UK to build their own cruise ships, the UK simply doesn't have the willpower to do so. Currently, the main places they are being built are in Germany, France and Italy.
Vistafjord, built for Norwegian America Line was probably the last built classic styled liner in the World. She was also operated by Cunard from 1983 - 2004 , (renamed Caronia in 1999). This long-lived ship was sold for scrap in april 2017, after her owner went bankrupt. Also Finland has a successful cruise ship building industry. Oasis and Allure of the Seas were built there, now several ships for TUI-Cruises and 2 other Royal Caribbean ships are being built in Finland
These boats, spawned from cancelled orders from the Frankensteiny boat yard in Italy, are nothing more than big . not beautiful, just big like a night club bouncer, "get out of my way cos im bigger than you" Cunard, hang your head and your carnival dunce hat in shame. The real Cunarder is currently tied up alongside in Dubaii. A very thorny subject for Cunard and one that will be an albatross for them forever for what they have done with the nations capital ship. Pleeeeez no bleeting about how sugar coated and wonderful qm2 is cos it aint .!
Uhm no, the original "Cunarder" Queen Mary is moored in Long Beach and her sister Queen Elizabeth lay on her side, a rusted hulk destroyed by fire, in Hong Kong harbor till the 90's. Whatever fate awaits QE2 only time will tell, hopefully she'll be granted a better fate than her predecessor. But none the less, the current group of Queens are no less deserving of their names. No matter how much you wail and gnash your teeth at them, it's no fault of Cunard that there were no yards left in England that could build them. You'd have to take that up with the British Parliament, whom created that Health and Safety monstrosity, not Cunard.
+ILL KICK DAT KURBEH TO DA KURB+ Sadly in this day & age, it’s the only way Cunard would’ve survived (if push had come to shove, I would’ve liked to see Princess & Cunard merge {but retain there own identity / branding as they have as part of Carnival Corporation} both lines / brands offer a similar offering, & Princess has been around “almost” as long as Cunard... In years to come, I could see RCI & NCL, merging to take on Carnival Corporation...
Since I filmed this video, QE has had some work completed. There are some additional cabins in the stern area and she looks more like QV now. Everyone will have an opinion about whether or not they like a ship. There is a large number out there and each targets a specific area of the market. I know people who have sailed on QM2 and loved the experience. Currently, the Cunards are a little out of my price range. They are adding a new ship to the fleet in 2022, missing the 180th Anniversary. Currently, they haven't announced the name. She'll be slightly smaller than QM2, but larger than both QE & QV.
I would have been teary eyed if I was there. Being on the QM2 alone made me emotional. Imagine seeing all 3 queens together .. that would be amazing :)

That was so beautiful to see all three Queens with the QM2 leading the way from Southampton. Nothing is more classy as these three beautiful ships.
The
Original queen mary and queen Elizabeth
Very impressive! I can only imagine what it must’ve look like to be there in person to see them leave.

Once in a while Queen Elizabeth will come to the west coast for a Pacific cruise and Alaskan as well.

@@ScubaGirl68 Didn't ask for a history lesson, just lamenting the passing of aesthetic design. Appreciate the effort you went to though.
@@telfordguy34uk No problem. Too many people would pass such a comment out of spit and lack of understanding.
@@ScubaGirl68 You have me at a disadvantage madam, I don't understand your point.

gigantic high-rise floating hotels... Benidorm on boats.....
Cunardival
Made in Germany the first Ship
Some fine shipbuilding here Parkol Marine Engineering
ScubaGirl68 You mean Britain no longer builds ships?
I kinda wish Cunard wasn’t owned bu Carnival though...
+ILL KICK DAT KURBEH TO DA KURB+
Sadly in this day & age, it’s the only way Cunard would’ve survived (if push had come to shove, I would’ve liked to see Princess & Cunard merge {but retain there own identity / branding as they have as part of Carnival Corporation} both lines / brands offer a similar offering, & Princess has been around “almost” as long as Cunard...
In years to come, I could see RCI & NCL,
merging to take on Carnival Corporation...
The ships by cunard are decent but the looks of them are terrible. The only good looking ship they have is the Queen Mary 2
Oasis Class 🤮
So big ugly shoeboxes can make noise. Big deal.
must be painful to have a 2 year old comment with no likes... U couldve never ever engineered these kinda ships so shut up.
@@GAMEVIDSnorwegian422 2 years later and he's got 6 now. You have 7, no make that 8. Wonder where that last one came from?
