    Thank you! This rig was productive for both porgy and sea bass as well.

      Thank you for watching, I'm glad the rig worked for you.

    Great video and very easy to understand.
    But every time I'm done the hook is sitting down farther than the sinker.
    What am I doing wrong?

    • @DowntoEarthFishing
      @DowntoEarthFishing  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Make sure the double hitch knot above the sinker is tight or you could add another loop to it keep it from slipping. Shorten up the line from the knot to the hook might help too. I hope this helps and thanks for watching.

    Great rig but I went to every tackle shop in New York and none of them carry squibbles.

      I bought them on Etsy. Just type in "Tog Jigs" you find them.

    That purple Jig is pretty. Haha. I agree bro. On deep waters on a boat , I use standoff rig 3 oz lead

  • @glenthomasrealtor6223
    @glenthomasrealtor6223 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you use a rod that can handle the 3 os sinker or a rod for lighter sinker?

    • @DowntoEarthFishing
      @DowntoEarthFishing  ปีที่แล้ว

      The rod I use for this rig is rated from 1 to 4oz. I would stay with the rod rating not the lighter setup.

    That's a clinch knot you used to attach swivel to line. Also if that knot is slipping you should use the improved clinch knot, not just leave a small tag end

    I actually tie a second hook , snelled eagle claw RIGHT at the bottom, the snags happen. But my lowest and closest hook to the bottom always catches the most. I always do 2 hook. Nothing better than two Togs at a time

    • @Noreaster-l6k
      @Noreaster-l6k 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a terrible idea for Tog. 1 hook only

    • @Noreaster-l6k
      @Noreaster-l6k 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Or two hooks in the same bait

  • @robertlosasso4222
    @robertlosasso4222 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    That double loop knot is a surgeons loop . And if you get hung up it won’t pull out , a single overhand knot is better because it will pull out . Where did you learn to tie rigs ,at Pep Boys?

  • @robertlosasso4222
    @robertlosasso4222 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The knot in the swivel , should have been a Trilene knot which would have been a double through the eye not a single like you made . You also kinked the leader for pulling down with all those twists , with the Trilene knot only needed three turns .

  • @jperiksen
    @jperiksen ปีที่แล้ว +1

    1) for the knot tot he swivel try using an improved clinch knot they are less likely to slip also wet it before pulling on the knot at all you damaged the line the friction heat seriously lowers the breaking strength. 2 )a small improvement would be to make the sinker loop very small and add a short section of lighter line so if you are fighting a fish and he hangs up your weight in the structure only the weight will break off.

    That bait holder hook stinks, I’ve used them before and they break with any pressure on the shaft .

    I like bank sinkers too, but for Tog people also use cannonball, coin, and other flat sinkers.
    With Tog you need a simple rig because you get snagged all the time!

      @DowntoEarthFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm 100% agreed and thanks for the tips too! :D

      Absolutely 💯. I use eagle claw.. in buzzards bay mass.there buried in rocks. Loose lots of rigs. I couldn't afford gamakatsu. Hahah

    • @jamie.777
      @jamie.777 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bank sinkers are the only ones to use. The others get snagged easy. Plus bank sinkers are cheap

    You may want to try using an octopus hook instead of a bait holder hook.

    • @DowntoEarthFishing
      @DowntoEarthFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could definitely give that a try. Thanks :D!

    • @Darth-Betta
      @Darth-Betta หลายเดือนก่อน

      Before the Gammi Octs gained popularity in the 90's, a Mustad virginia hook was the standard. Kinda looks like a bait holder with an offset.

    The Trilene knot is far superior to that clinch knot .

    First when you tied the line to the swivel you did damage to the mono by pulling so hard! no need. Then later you kepp yanking on the mono in another step. Again wrong! A steady pull after being lubricated is all you need. Sorry ,but thats how I see it!

  • @paulhilton4411
    @paulhilton4411 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Sophmoric. No improved clinch, should us e triple surgeons loop , no way for sinker to breakaway, not a correct snell knot. Otherwise its Ok...

  • @chrisbedus4779
    @chrisbedus4779 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just make a sinker loop and a dropper loop above for the hook and then tie on the swivel! No need to do it the way your doing it.

    • @stevek7757
      @stevek7757 ปีที่แล้ว

      This allows you to tie the hook snell instead of just hanging the hook onto the dropper loop.

  • @peterk814

    That’s the wrong way to tie this rig. It’s not a stand off knot

  • @fishydubsfishing6516

    If you're using crabs for bait they have to be on the bottom or you're not gonna catch nothing
