Not really thought about these things in this much detail before, thank you for this. Are there computer watches that ARE independent, but just do watch stuff? Like I can see the appeal of a visible statement on your wrist that does a bunch of stuff, but when I think about having a watch I like the idea of a thing that tells time, maybe displays other date and time based information based on what I'd want, like it being able to tell me what the phase of the moon is right now even if I can't see it, the relative position of sun and stars, all based on an internal clock with no other connection needs. Would also be nice if its power draw was low so switching out batteries or recharging wasn't a constant worry... or maybe even having a mechanical watch with a battery-powered display? The mechanisms still tell the time but the display allows for different ways to show it? There's still a lot of potential for different configurations, smart and not.
I excluded a section where I talked about how watches like retro casio still provide a lot of useful functions. I liked how some of them would include multiple functions like world-time, stopwatch, multiple alarms, and it would even tell you the date & day of the week. Watches that give you the moon phase exist, but they are on the pricier side
@@Muhluri I see. Yeah, I can see why you might want to cut it to keep to your main topic, but it's interesting and not something I know a lot about. I think I skipped the jump in tech because I remember those bulky calculator ones with all the buttons, little LCD games, other simple features (I remember one that transformed into a toy robot!), and now it's basically tiny computers with complex displays that die really fast, like you say, unless you have most of their features off :) I'd be interested in some sort of hybrid like I mentioned but it seems like those don't cross over too much on the high end because the expertise is different. Not really looked too hard, though, since my tolerance for wearing stuff on my wrist has dropped a lot lately
