The combination of Sam’s fantastic filmmaking, and Aidan talking limit boulders is always a pleasure. Hugely enjoyed this, and will be returning to watch it many times over!
@@WEDGECLIMBING I was actually thinking exactly the same. No Eye Candy, heavy bass drops and frequent jump cuts. Its so tastefully kept pure, which is generating a lot of space for the actual depth of this feat. chapeau!
While it probably won’t go viral at all, this video will be up there with the great storytelling outdoors bouldering vids. It will truly inspire those lucky enough to see it. There should be yearly rewards for this stuff, and Sam, you’d be up there every time.
This is phenomenal! Aidan working out and doing one of the hardest bouders in the world almost fades into the background with how good the filmmaking is. Surely not the last time i watched this.
Aidan's mindset and thoughts on how he approaches his challenges are just as fascinating as his climbing performance. Inspiring documentary, beautifully filmed. Calm and collected, like the protagonist himself. On to the next adventure. Ahoy.
I loved what Aidan said about frustration and knowing he CAN do it, but staying patient and waiting for the right time, knowing it will come eventually.
A class film once again. From a jaded old school wanker who easily dislikes the modern era. You guys break the mould. Keep it up! not just the sends but the cinematography & story telling.
That statement about how he avoided forcing the process and instead set his focus on exploration and enjoyment really got me and made me remember to do the same in my math theses. Thanks Aidan!
Man, what a climb, what poetry. Love this. Feels like a journey of maturing, too, of growing more wise. And I can't fckn believe that Aiden is still getting stronger. So excited for what he might continue bringing to the climbing community!
I'd been looking forward to this so much that when it arrived I felt like had to find the absolute right moment to watch. No distractions allowed. Couldn't spoil the first go. That moment finally came and damn, it was worth the wait. Thank you, Aidan and Sam.
I really appreciated the mood of the video, Aidan's introspections give a great value to this work. I think we need more videos like these, where together with the amazing sporting performance, the depth of an intense process is told. Thanks for this gem!
Wow. This may be your best film yet Sam. The cinematography was brilliant and it melded with the narrative of Aidan's excellently named boulder so effortlessly. It wasn't contrived or forced, and the flow of storytelling, pace and tone was just perfection. It moved me almost to tears. Ps. And of course this is all possible in part to Aidan's incredible talent in climbing as well as his ability to be so articulate and thoughtful in what value it provides him in his life.
Burden of dreams-esque… i remember watching that when it first came out. Project close to home, getting to see someone experience the most fulfilling process in climbing, with a anti-climatic but impactful finish. Adding this to the classic vid playlist
I had the privilege of climbing on the climbing team with aidan at university, and i remember when he used to coach at my local. Crazy to see how he has progressed, very inspiring.
The UK has so many absolutely stunning areas, the Lake District included. Just absolutely breath-taking, it's like everything about the UK turned up to 11. Often dour weather that underpins a truly beautiful place in a severe beauty kind of way. Aidan's approach to climbing reminds me of that, severe beauty. What an absolute stud of a climber. I've just seen this video for the first time and I already feel like it's one of the best bouldering videos I've seen.
were so lucky to have you around aiden, this video was incredible. i love your mindset and perspective. i bet a lot of people will find profound inspiration from you.
Aidan's mindset is so incredibly inspiring. That boulder is beautiful in itself, but his story behind it makes it worth so much more. If you would only have seen the video of the ascent, you wouldn't know about the beautiful heelhook sequence he didn't end up using. So, big thanks for this documentary.
Just finished reading 'The Alchemist'. Aidan's experience seems so close to that story. Travelling abroad only to come home and find treasure in a local project is such an inspiring tale.
WOOOOOOOOW this was simply beautiful. This was wonderful story telling and I am just speechless. This is one of my favorite climbing videos maybe ever! Thank you so much!
Absolute next level story telling and video making! Funny thinking that this boulder has been waiting for Aidan at the back of his house while he's been abroad so much.
I can say many great things about this short film, and how much awesome climbing skills are on show here, but I would just like to take a second and appreciate how beautiful of a person Aidan is. Humble, insightful, not ashamed to explore and share his emotional feelings, overall a unique human being. Also, one of the climbers with the most elegant climbing style, in my opinion. Thank you Wedge team for this great production.
That's a wonderful art project. The name makes me think that time can really stop for us, when we find places in climbing like this. Perhaps that's why Aidan felt sad at the end, because that was when time started again 😉
Aidan is an inspiration. On the cutting edge of our sport and yet not focused on send culture. Just enjoying the beauty of rock climbing and the gifts that it brings to all who do it. What a stunning film I know ill watch again and again. Congrats to you both.
Calm, reflective, introspective, with subtle emotions that are so well-articulated. More climbing film channels should be like this; but until then Wedge will continue to be my favorite. Such brilliant filmmaking.
Having listened to Aidan talking about Spots of Time on the Careless Talk Climbing Podcast, it's fabulous to watch the story on film. Absolutely beautiful climbing and filmmaking. Magical.
Amazing insight into the psychological aspect that goes into projecting on your limit! A lot of other climbers let frustration get the better of them when they're getting close but Aidan makes the whole process look truly fulfilling and enjoyable.:)
Superb little film. Aidan's approach to climbing right at the limit is refreshing, the filmmaking is as good as it gets, and I love how another of the very hardest blocs in the world is like a desperately difficult and subtle board problem.
What’s beautiful film (extreme kudos to the editor for that spot in time where the chord sequence changed when he got the hold). What an incredibly self aware and enlightened being.
Beautiful portrayal of what climbing has to offer. Great storytelling, and perfectly executed filmmaking. A true masterpiece that shows the beauty of the journey.
Great video. I feel so fortunate to have watched this as a beginner boulderer. There is a lot to unpack here. Mainly, I am eager to find a project close to home to gather spots of time with friends, the crag, and with myself. Great work on all accounts. Thank you for sharing
Personally for me projecting is the heart of this sport. The excitement of finding a new project, the problem solving that goes into it, the many failures and hopefully the actual send. It’s nice that you shared your journey! This video makes me psyched to get back to my project.
So damn cool man. So inspiring. In a time when climbing can feel like nothing but grade chasing, ego, whatever, just bringing back the love and the art of it all. How climbing can be another beautiful manifestation of the human spirit.
I absolutely adore the cinematography and soundscape you create, Sam. Beautifully done. Seems weird to say that the bouldering feels almost secondary to the beauty of the content itself.....which, of course, it isn't.
Aidan you always inspire me with your thoughtful and careful choice of words. A real credit to the flock. Look forward to more from you and wish you the best with your future ahead. Cheers
Living 15 minutes next to a 9A Boulder, or any Boulder for that manner is such a privilege I would love. Nalle must have felt same motivation having Burden of Dreams in his country.
As always, beautiful filmmaking by Wedge and Aidan is a pleasure to watch and listen to. Perhaps the most inspiring thing about Aidan, even more than his cutting edge climbing, is how he shares his mental process with all of us. we can all learn from his introspective attitude, regardless of what grade we climb.
Stunning video as always! One of the coolest boulders I've seen to be honest. Such a clean line with no bullshit and yet so many details... You did a fantastic job capturing this journey with a relatively short video! Very impressive
A pleasure to hear Aidan's experience and the process of climbing this line... As we watched him work through it. I looked forward to watching this at the end of my long working day, and it's uplifted and inspired me just as I knew it would! Another beautiful piece of work from you, Sam.
Sam your work is unmatched. Absolute class every time. Feels wrong to watch content like this and not tip once in a while. As for that monster Aidan. Well done . Can tell he had the full experience with this one. Brilliant 👏
This is a kind of passion that I am not used to, the calmness withing the passion for boulder and the process is very inspiring. The video really shows how this climb perfectly lines up with the mental growth of Aidan, and seems to show that this experience is where he feels most content. Very beautifully done. This video instilled a feeling of peace in me, thank you for that :)
so blessed are we to have not only Aidan himself but also these wonderful videos made that show the process, the thoughts, the feelings and everything in it's entirety. it's so hard to appreciate everything that's gone into a climb with just a couple minutes long max video of the send, so beautiful to see it all like this
Superb video, which perfectly complements Aiden’s experience both mental and physical . Hugely impressive climbing but more memorable due to Aiden’s articulate explanation of his joy of projecting and the pitfalls of ego etc … Congrats to everyone who made the final achievement possible .🙌🏼🔥🔥🔥
