  • We throw it back to 2007 and look at the Lowrance LCX 27c, one of my favorite Lowrance units ever made! 13 years after its release, the LCX 27c paved the way for modern electronics and has many current features we still use today.

    Very nice review / tutorial. I purchased a boat last year that came with a Lowrance LCX-27C. I learned quite a bit from your video while sitting on the boat pushing buttons right along with you. It’s nice to know this is such a capable unit and that everything seems to be working properly. Thank you for creating and posting this video.

    I just bought one off of FBM for $25. Good deal compared to what else was being sold on Ebay and FBM. What is the largest MMA card that we can put in it? The manual mentions 16 MBs. Also has anyone used Radar with this unit?

    I currently have a lcx27c and am thinking of upgrading to a Hummingbird helix 7. Your review makes me want to stay with my 27c. Not sure if the added technology of the newer units are that much better after this review.

    • @InDepthSonar

      Honestly a Helix 7 isn't going to be night and day difference from the LCX. Personally I'd stick with the LCX over a Helix... Unless of course you want to get into SI or DI

    my LXC 27c only has a Navionics SD 256MB installed. My waypoints are saved to this card? ie no hard drive in the unit? I want to key in a large number of new waypoints, can I key into a SD card in my computer, (not bigger than 2GB?), what software use? How does the Lowrance read the card? ie what settings? TIA, regards from Australia

    I have a LCX-27C and i'm not able to see bathymetrics on the map,

      You'll need to have a card in the unit first. If you have one, then you'll have to turn it on under the Map Data option in the menu

    You mention that you had this connected to a Yamaha motor. I have this same Lowrance unit and a 2005 F225. I have been reading a bit and I think that I need a 120-37 Navico cable adapter. Do you have any specifics on how you did it and how it worked out for you?
    Thanks,
    Joe

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you'll need that cable and a NMEA2000 starter kit. You may need more depending on how your GPS antenna is connected. Our you may not need the starter kit. Just depends on the current wiring. On the HPDI there is a small 4 pin connector that was on the starboard side of the block that didn't go anywhere. You remove the cap on it an plug the 120-37 in to it. If double check the Four Strokes from 2005 will work though because I have a feeling it was only HPDI, then in 2006 or 2007 the Four Strokes had NMEA2000. I may be wrong but double check

    Great info! Quick question. I have a Carbon 9 and I am running a old thru hull transducer on my bassboat. (Maybe 10 +years old). Its working fine however wondering if this should be updated to something better? I want to stay with a thru hull if possible. Do I continue with this Transducer or go with something else?

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use it, but it may not be as good as a new one. Transducers do weaken over time so it would be a good idea to replace after 10years

  • @ericmuhlbeier8023

    Picking up one of these from a buddy tonight... i also have a hook5 which would you use as a primary? Vs a secondary? I havent mounted either in the boat yet so i kinda want an idea of which to mount at the helm vs at the bow

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it's the original hook 5 that uses the same connectors as the LCX. I would say the LCX would be a better unit but the hook's not too far off. If it is the hook two or hook reveal that uses the force fit style connectors, then you're definitely better off with it LCX as your primary

      NMEA0183 data cable to connect to a VHF or other device. If not used make sure those cables cannot touch each other. Wrap them up individually.

    Wow, nice tutorial. I have a LMS-522c iGPS unit and I was fishing one day and watching the sonar and I hit a button and lost all my settings and the sonar page looks like garbage to put it nicely and I have not been able to get it back to the way I had it ever since. I am looking to get the sonar to display like how you have it set via the demo mode but I have a lot of black spotting in the center of the screen and vertical line that show up as the screen scrolls. With your help I might be able to get it back to "my normal". But for now, it looks terrible. But I do want to ask, when I was under way, I used to have a good look at the bottom at all times with color representation regardless of depth and speed of my boat. Now, I loose sight of the bottom and what is displayed is a black ink like blotch that runs across the center of the screen. Then when I stop, I get a colorful reading of the bottom again. Getting kinda frustrated and spent too much time already trying to get this back to normal. Any ideas you might have? And yes, I do have auto depth on. Grrrr. Thanks in advance.

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Turn off auto and see if it gets better or worse.
      It's likely your transducer is failing. If it is the original one then it's time to get a replacement. Back in the mid 2000 the Lowrance transducers were terrible and would fail very quickly. What you described sounded like a transducer that has weakened over time. The new ones are much better and don't fail quickly so that should solve the problem for you.

      @CorpseGrinder1967 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@InDepthSonar Thanks for the reply Lawren. I'll turn off the auto and just replace the transducer. Its been quite a wile on the back of the boat so maybe I should just change it at this point. I love this unit so Im going to keep it going until the end of time. Cheers from Long Island.

    Can I network my old LCX-28C with my new elite fs9. They both have a network cable plug. I would like to use the LCX for chart and engine info and display the sonar from the from the elite. Is this possible? Thanks much.

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can link them up for sure. What will share I don't know. At best you may get the sonar to share through Ethernet. If you link them through NMEA2000 then they will share waypoints. That could open a can of worms though for cabling due to all the possible ways the LGC antenna could be wired to the LCX unit

      Yeah something failed internally. That's really the only explanation I can give you. I can't remember exactly what it was but it was common on the LCX 16 and LCX 19 units. I used to be a repair tech for Lowrance when these units were around and this was something that was unreparable and and the unit had to be replaced. I think it may have been where the board connected to the screen and somehow it was getting a reversed signal
