are there some known scholars in Nepal who are well versed in the regional politics between Nepal its own governance and with China and India? I would like to learn more. I also wonder if there are some explanations of why the political climate in Nepal is as unstable as it has been for few years. Do refer me to an analyst or scholar with knowledge in this field. If they also report on youtube via interviews that'd be great. If not, I'm still interested in names so I can search them and their work online.
Personally I did find that both these people had nuanced fews. With some small hints of a bias, generally speaking they spoke eloquently on the situation. The host was very strong with her questions.

I'm Indian, and why can't Nepal have good relation with both India and China? Nepal is an independent country, let them decide what's best for them. Why it has to be either only India or only China and not both? Nepal is sandwich between two very big countries (India and China), it is important for them to have good relation with both its neighbours. Stop importing this US/West mentality of 'either you are with us or against us'.
Taiwan should worry about themselves for becoming a US vassal, the next Ukraine in the making. Wake up Taiwan! US doesn't care about your independence, your democracy, your security.. To them you are just a small sacrificial pawn against China. Why is it so hard for you guys to understand this!! Talk to China instead of poking them with US, negotiate and maintain the status quo of 'One Country Two System' with China, otherwise disaster is waiting to happen...

I don't think it's western mentality of 'either you are with us or against us'. Yes it is true that the Western political leadership has this attitude (the people may have different beliefs), but the reason people are concerned between NPL-IND-CHI is because India and China are rivals. If Nepal becomes a closer ally to either one of them (India or China), the other one will feel it as a threat. A great example highlighted in this video is when the host asked about the Pokhara airport. Here they stated that India has been obstructing the fruitfulness of this airport, since it was built with Chinese grants and that means that Chinese airlines will want to use it as well. India does not want this. Either because they claim due to 'security concerns' (IND-CHI are on the verge of war on the Kashmir borders, they may fear that this war extends to Northeast India), or maybe because they don't want the Chinese economy to prosper any further. I do not know the real reasons. Even if they claim it is due to security reasons, I honestly don't think this is a valid claim. Yes, China could then make use of Pokhara airport to transport goods and people via the south of China, but I think China's initial focus is for economic reasons, not to start war. Anyway, to answer your question, this is not a western thing. The reason that there is this debate about 'either China or India' in relation to Nepal is because the two of them, India and China, are (not yet) at war with one another. Nepal is a buffer zone and blocks some of these potential threats of further war and fighting. Nepal's relation to both of them therefore can be strategically motivated by China or India. They may want to make use of Nepal's territory to invade the other for instance. This is why people are so focussed on Nepal's relation. However, I agree with you. In an ideal world, Nepal SHOULD be able to have a relationship with both. Which is what I think the Nepali are trying to do right now. But India(n media, check all the news outlets in India and how they're reporting Oli's visit to China) perceives it as a concern.

Sikkim was an Indian protectorate( foreign policy was Indian but every other policy was their own) and things were OK until the Crown Prince married an American lady who wanted to become fully independent- ie have an American listening post in an area which was critical for Indian security. India could not permit this.

India hasn’t approved international flights to fly over in their sky to Pokhara international airport just because it was built by Chinese loan .It is millions percent sure India doesn’t want Chinese influence in nepal so they can keep dominating Nepal under their control. As a Nepali citizens we want good neighborhood relationship with both countries.Having saying this of course Indian influence higher because of Culture, religion and geographic similarity.

India closed the border to protect the Madhesi people of Nepal from Nepali government forces. Nepali Police shot and k!leed several Nepali Madhesi people who were protesting against discrimination done to them in Nepali constitution and this protest is known as Madhes Andolon. In fact Nepali Madhes people were the one who sat on the border first and blocked entry points to Nepal. And, India had not other option but intervene. Compared to the current situation concerning Hindus in Bangladesh, the situation in Nepal was far more dangerous. Don't comment if you don't know the background.

I mean it's not new. Even way back during the 50s, the then King Mahendra was taken as "nuisance" because he was able to balance the ties between India, China, USA and Russia.
So much so that the very foundation of infrastructure drive he laid, to this day remains the backbone of the nation.
Nepal is doomed by geopolitical pressures. No clear majority, foreign players fund domestic parties to always go against each other.

As a Nepali, we do have lots of respect and love towards our indian neighbours in the south but not towards their government. Imagine this, you just came out of the once in a century earthquake event and not even 3 months have passed by, they imposed an illegal economic blockade. Although india denies it, it is simply impossible to block all 25+ checkpoints scross the border that spans for more than 1000+ kms without government intervention. Even indian businesses and truck deivers have said that indian police told them to stop at the border.
Our bid for china's BRI and USA's MCC program should be seen as an alternative to indian dominance rather than a geopolitical realignment. Every nation deserves to have their interests secured.

Bro , India has played a significant role in supporting Nepal’s economic development through investments, grants, and collaborative projects. Here are some key highlights:
      1. Direct Investments: Indian private and public sectors have heavily invested in Nepal’s banking, insurance, telecom, energy, and manufacturing sectors. India accounts for about two-thirds of Nepal's trade and has facilitated infrastructure and industrial development in the country.
      2. Grant Assistance and Infrastructure Projects: India has financed over 551 High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDP) in Nepal, costing approximately NPR 1249 crore. These projects focus on education, healthcare, rural electrification, and road construction. Additionally, India has supported the construction of schools, hospitals, and trauma centers.
      3. Hydropower and Energy: India is a key partner in Nepal’s hydropower sector, helping develop infrastructure and purchasing electricity. India has committed to buying 10,000 MW of power from Nepal over the next decade. Significant projects like the Arun-3 hydropower plant have been completed under India’s line of credit programs.
      4. Post-Earthquake Reconstruction: India pledged $1 billion for Nepal’s recovery after the 2015 earthquake, which included grants and concessional loans. This funding supported housing, schools, and healthcare facilities reconstruction.
      5. Lines of Credit: India has provided $1.65 billion in concessional credit to Nepal for large infrastructure projects, including roads and transmission lines.
Overall, these investments and partnerships signify India’s substantial contribution to Nepal’s economic development and regional connectivity.

I beg to differ with Indian assistant director's statement because there are many tribes in Nepal and not only Indo Aryan descendants who shares culture and religion with Indians. Many tribes like us who are Mongoloid race have nothing in common with Indians. Majority of us are Buddhists not Hindus.
China and Nepal friendship is as ancient as India. The issue here is with India not Nepal about China and Nepal friendship. Most of the problems for Nepal in the past came from south of the border India not China. The history speaks for itself.
    PS,
Most Nepali people do not trust any of our government, It does not matter which party they represent because they are all same and they are the reason why Nepal has been pushed below poverty level.

Historically, Nepal has balanced the relationship between India and China successfully. Although, it is very hard to keep up this balance, particularly between two giant nations who have been fighting each other for many decades. However, Nepa has not been successful in yielding the proper outcomes from these two giant wannabe world-leaders. Bascially, both India and Chin have been much selfish with Nepal when it comes for maintaining fair bilateral relations

I like the fact you put the disputed area on the map.
KP Oli is a very savvy politician who is great at staying in power. So he's equally at ease praising China's development and completely allowing Indian industrialists to control the economy. As long as it brings money to his UML party, he doesn't care where it comes from.
Corruption, bribery, cooperative bank savings gutted by political cadres, the Himalayas destroyed by bulldozers, and most recently he accepted 8 ropani land from a supermarket owner who was investigated by the CIB team of the Nepal Police for selling off parts of the Prime Minister's quarters. He was going to use this land to build the UML headquarters.
He's under heavy internal criticism so he needs some big splash to draw attention away from internal problems.
It sounds like they're trying to export Indian cattle (buffalo, etc) via Nepal to China. The good thing about this is that if it went through, this would end the deforestation in Brazil.
The hydrodam fights: China building biggest dam in Tibet, with India aggressively in pursuit, turns out to be a fight covertly triggered by the CIA. So I assume American Big Asset comoanies are heavily pushing cement and hydrodams. It's Wall Street, not Evil China or Evil India. I think the two cojntries just sobered up over Arunchal Pradesh after realizing this.

Being a Nepali, it is important to acknowledge that India is a great nation and has been a significant partner for Nepal. As a neighboring country, China is equally important and holds immense potential for collaboration. Historically, it is notable that many of Nepal’s Prime Ministers have not prioritized visiting China, which reflects a lack of balance in our foreign policy approach.
However, it is imperative that Nepal fosters and strengthens its relationship with China as well. Had this approach been adopted earlier, Nepal could have achieved a balanced and strategic relationship with both neighbors, maintaining a 50/50 equilibrium. Such balance is crucial for ensuring Nepal’s sovereignty, economic development, and regional stability.

India's foreign policy towards Nepal is aggressively subjugating. How can we forget 2015 blockade imposed by our so called friendliest neighbor India just because Nepal's Constitution was not in align to India's demand, That they wanted Nepal's constitution their way. How ironic, the biggest democracy wants to meddle and manipulate in someone else's democratically found constitution and that also when Nepal was suffering from a Massive 2015 earthquake. Not appreciating Nepal's decision is one thing but exploiting while vulnerable, while in desperation, was the last straw that India shouldn't had broken.
Not only that, India's been encroaching Nepali lands and rivers openly and blatantly. Look at India's diplomatic relation with other neighboring nations as well, Pakistan, Bangladesh, China, Maldives, Sri lanka. They've got problems with each and every nation that are been mentioned. Nepal’s sovereignty is further reinforced by its own government, constitution, and political system, as well as its international relationships and treaties, such as the friendship treaties with India and China.
India with its hegemonic attitude has cast China and Nepal cooperation in a negative light.
India do not see Nepal as an independent sovereign country as India regards Nepal and South Asia as its domains and sphere of influence and will not accept any competition from another country.
India is not able to offer good economic solutions to its neighbors and are always hinders South Asian countries' cooperative ties with China.

India could not permit this.

Both China and India will have to figure out how to settle the border dispute together. It is an inherited problem that they both now own. It is a dispute that is still being leveraged by the West to divide and weaken both countries. The current hegemonic world order wants to hobble the 2 rising Asian giant economic powers to preserve status quo. Dividing and conquering is how the West subdued and pillaged India and China over the past 2-3 centuries.

Well, what a letdown shallow thinking. If India is the real expansionist, this so-called Nepal won't be a country but a part of India, Bangladesh won't be a country but a part of India after India liberated it from Pakistan. Sri Lanka won't be a country but a part of India. I'll guess that you know about LTTE. It wages a war against the government of Sri Lanka, and it was formed by the Tamils. So, India could back up the LTTE and make Sri Lanka a part of India, but instead, India sided with the Sri Lankan government and even sent its troops to eliminate the threat posed by LTTE. India was just piecing together its part that makes India a whole. If you called India as the expansionist and siding with China, then how about China?! I'll assume that you take China as a righteous, virtuous, innocent entity. It took Tibet by force, claims Taiwan a part of it, and will use force to claim Taiwan. Its claims in South China sea sparking disputes with multiple countries. It's using the Salami slice to gain parts of India. But to you, China ain't not an expansionist. Think and say whatever you want about India, it doesn't matter because the truth about who really is an expansionist among India and China is right in front of everyone and don't forget China's debt trap😉 😂😂😂😂😂😂

    2. Second Indian Economic blockade in 1971 by Indira Gandhi govt.
